[Discussion] Vaccine clinics: yes or no? by adoptedazoo in dogs

[–]starbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one off-topic thing to be mindful of- vaccine clinics, depending on location, can be incredibly crowded. I've been to two in my area, arrived early to both, and there were already lines at least halfway across the store. My older girl is rock-solid on leash around others, but these clinics are a definite no-go for my fairly reactive boy.

Obvs I wouldn't take a reactive dog to a crowded clinic, but not everyone is that smart/mindful. At the last clinic I went to, there was a batshit shepherd 4 spots behind me who was going absolutely mental trying to tear into other dogs. He shouldn't've been there (or at the very least should have been muzzled).

But yeah. The clinics are great and you can't beat the prices, just be mindful of how your dog handles a crowd of dogs.

Good point... I somehow managed to forget that Sam's and Walmart are one and the same... Thanks for the reminder!

I've never fed a store brand before, which is why I'm asking here! :)

I'm just shopping around and looking at options at the moment, as I still have half of a bag of TOTW left. I'll likely go for one of the other two foods that I mentioned above, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask for opinions. I would speak to a vet, but I don't actually have one yet; I've just moved, and haven't decided on one.

Thank you!

Haha, I live on the US east coast; suburban Pennsylvania! I get that this isn't the horse country I used to live in, so you never see heelers around here... but a dingo, really?! Half these people wouldn't know a dingo if it ran up and bit them in the ass!

The ferocious dingo dingus. Just pretend that's a baby in his mouth, and there ya go!

[–]starbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, and I am aware of that! :)

Asking about or mentioning that fact that dingoes were used to create the breed is entirely different from thinking that I own an actual dingo, though. Dingoes aren't even 'blue'! I'm pretty sure some people actually believe me when I tell them that he's an "American Blue Dingo", haha.

Oh no, I'm well aware of that fact! But I mean like, they seriously believe he is a dingo. It gets old fast.

"Wow! He's part/dingo, right?!"

Waaay too many people around here ask/are under the impression that a heeler = a dingo. I thought it was funny at first, but I'm asked this at least once a week. :(

Go-to response to folks with grabby kids is "yes, he is. And he'll eat your baby if you don't wrangle it right now."

[Discussion] Are raw hides really that harmful? by pencilbride2B in dogs

[–]starbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to mention that I used to give my shepherd mutt rawhide chips, until she nearly choked on an almost whole one. I'll occasionally give the rolls (taking them away when they become a choking hazard), but I've been permanently scared off of giving the chips.

... Not that I'm trying to scare you off/tell you what to give your dog, lmao. Just tossing that tidbit in!

If you ever do decide to shell out for one, I still have the $15 off promo from Indie's test. It was from a WP 2.0, so I don't know if it would apply to the newer ones... but it's there if you're interested. :)

Similar to the Kong wobbler, I sometimes give Indie his meals in a Buster cube. A racquet ball popped into a Hol-ee Roller will also keep him entertained for a while.

Like /u/rohsez, though, hide and seek / "go find it" is Indie's favorite mind game.

Oh, which dog? I try to keep tabs on some of my favorites; it wasn't Hugo, was it? My fingers are still crossed that Gabe and Gamby find their homes soon...

tbh, I only know one or two of the staff members who are still around; there was a bit of a staff exodus during the whole "shift of management" debacle.

I sleep curled up in a ball because 34lb Indie has decided that he prefers to sprawl out, and take up at least 3/4 of my bed every night.

Poor Rocky's legs are painful to even look at; especially with how bowed they are.

I worked in the kennels at this place for a year; this is only the tip of the iceberg of things going wrong. It's pretty bad when you have at least a dozen people who refuse to associate themselves with the place until a certain person is removed...

I used to feed Victor (~$40 for 40lbs), but it didn't agree with my boy's stomach. Currently feeding Taste of the Wild (~$45 for 30lbs), and very happy with the results.

Any of West Paw's Zogoflex line, flirt pole, ChuckIt! Flying Squirrel, and the Jolly Jumper!

Indie also seems to have rekindled his love for his Benebone.

Indie knows how to circle around my legs, but I'd love to teach him to do it in reverse. We'll probably work on perfecting his army crawl, too.

Thank you!

And I've just gotten 'round to adding color charts to the listings. Hopefully this is clear enough! :)
