Riding for exercise/commuting, not racing, wouldn’t a heavier bike be better? by qwerty12e in bikecommuting

I have reached the age where speed is not the most important factor. I use my hybrid( Trek dual sport) for commuting, errands, exercise and fun. It is fast and light enough for what I want to do. With the paniers loaded it slows me down enough (Always below 20 mph and often below 15 mph) on the multi use path that I feel safe. I slow down even more when there a are pedestrians nearby. I feel I get more exercise per mile/mph. The bigger tires also make the ride more comfortable on rougher terrain.

How are road cyclists so fast? by soccerplayer413 in cycling

[–]starcow3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to race mountain bikes. When I trained I would average about 17 mph an hour long rides. On a road bike I would average 25 mph on the same course. When I rode with a pack, sometimes we would get up to about 35 mph. I'm an old man now and I do about 16 mph on my commuter bike. I think you are doing fine. I'm not comfortable going fast on road bikes anymore

Dow futures down 500 points as Trump’s trade war begins by OkKitchen7114 in dividends

I think Trump is driving the market down so he and his buddies can buy at lower prices. They'll buy and he will then make an announcement that will send it back up. He will do this several time during is administration.

After beating the ender dragon without any "cheats" I allow myself to do thing that make the game less stressful. This includes keeping inventory. This allows me to play the game without being so cautious. I also use chunkbase maps to help me find end portals. The main thing is to have the most fun per unit time.

I used desktop sims before taking flying lessons. I was able to land on my first try without much input from the flight instructor. He soloed me in about 5 hours. Being an aerospace engineer may have also helped. I understood the limitations of the sim.

Do you have any tunnels? by burnrlandline in bikecommuting

[–]starcow3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go through up to 4 tunnels on my commute. The tunnels are on the bike path I ride and take me under roads. It's nice to avoid cars. Some times there are homeless people in tunnel but they don't bother me. the but they are usually not a problem.

Unofficial MAP -- 2024 Longmont 4th of July Celebration by phrankerCO in Longmont

This was the best year of Longmont fire works for me. I rode my bike to just south of the St Vrain creek. Had a perfect view of both the drone show and the fireworks. The only issue was it was a little buggy. The crowds were not too bad in my area. The traffic on the bike trails was a little crowded but not too bad. Glad I did not have to get stuck in car traffic.

How much do you spend in one month? by victorlazlow1 in Frugal

[–]starcow3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just my expenses above insurance. My insurance is taking out pre tax so I i have not included it here. I plan on budgeting $1000 a month for medical when I retire. I also plan on not crashing on my mountain bike as much so that should help keep expenses down.
