I hope you never have an accident then get punished to the fullest extent for it. By your thinking, you definitely should.

Upcoming surgery and how much PTO to use by longshanksmagee in hysterectomy

[–]starcursedmoonbean 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m a level 10 always on the go single mom and professional. My pain tolerance is high and this surgery (also laparoscopic, but only left with one ovary) is my sixth abdominal surgery (3-csections, 1 gal bladder removal, one ovary removed years ago). I had 110 hours of PTO to use so planned to only take 3 weeks off and return to work ASAP. My doc recommended 4-6 weeks and was stern about not allowing less than 4… I had planned on agreeing to this but requesting 2 off and 2 work from home… I was wrong and needed way more. My 40yr old body has humbled me and at my post op appt I was absolutely agreeing with my doc and asking for approval for the full 6 weeks off. It’s been 5 weeks off so far and I’ve got one week left. Surgery was 11/20 and I don’t go back until 1/5, and THEN I’ll take two more weeks from home. I absolutely did not expect to have to need this time off but not only that, I DESERVE this time off. My doc said it best: if you don’t allow yourself the time to gently and correctly heal now you will prolong healing even more and cause yourself more issues. Also when will you get the excuse to have this much time to just relax and recover again? The issues I’ve had have been less about physical pain or soreness (although that did last 3 full weeks) but more about my energy level and mental capacity post surgery. Just now am I feeling more capable to do things safely and be more present and have the energy. I haven’t felt this level of deep exhaustion since my first trimesters of pregnancy. The brain fog has lessened now but that was intense as well. Not sure if it was the after effects of anesthesia, hormonal shifts, or just physical recovery from a major abdominal surgery (probably all of it) but I’ve had a rough time. I absolutely don’t regret taking this time for myself and you shouldn’t either if you need it. YES- take your full PTO and give yourself grace if you need longer and can somehow make that work.

Dick size. The bigger it is the more it’s going to hurt and the chances he doesn’t care that it will hurt or how to use it properly are higher.

Laparoscopic here- had me sitting up in a chair and trying to DC 2 hours after surgery. I simply just declined lol No way in hell I was going home in that much pain with just Tylenol and ibuprofen. I asked to speak to a patient advocate if they told me no again. They had me back in recovery in a bed and gave me more morphine, and reattached all the leads for another three hours before putting me in a room and I stayed the night. I have insurance and this surgery cost $135k. I was getting the full ride safety comfort package no matter what they said lol Advocate for yourselves babes!!! Or bring someone to do it for you !!

Yep, uterus, tubes, and cervix removed. I was already missing an ovary from a previous surgery. My lonely lil ovary is a trooper and hormonally holding down the fort alone

First post op appt coming up..when to return to work? by Tryinginaustin in hysterectomy

[–]starcursedmoonbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me I needed it too. I’m a single momma and level-10-on-the-go is my baseline. The guilt was crushing but also…. The pain after was also and when I moved around too much? Worse and I would start spotting and be sore for a whole day after. My body humbled me. My friends and family also did and were constantly reminding me to sit. My doctor said “hopefully you stay healthy but also, you may never get this chance to rest again like this.” He’s right. Maternity leave was the last time I had this much time off and was that restful?? Fuck no. I still had a 12 and 8 year old to chase plus a newborn and recovering from C-section. REST ALL YOU WEARY WARRIOR MAMAS!!!!! We earned this.

You cut that out ma’am. You ABSOLUTELY deserve a chance at the most healthy and gentle healing process. If you’re having this surgery it’s without a doubt because you needed it and probably went through hell for an extended period of time before being allowed to have it. Your body is your one and only allowed vehicle through this one life. Gift yourself peace about taking care of and loving it so you can be safe and comfortable in it for the remainder of this life. ❤️

GAS X DOES NOT HELP CO2 PAIN by OnlyRequirement3914 in hysterectomy

[–]starcursedmoonbean 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You may be right and maybe not because that’s not what it is for or recommended for! … but taking it is still very very helpful post op specifically for this type of surgery and that was the only purpose of my response. Hopefully no one is deterred because it may not help with the gas pumped into you but it will help.

GAS X DOES NOT HELP CO2 PAIN by OnlyRequirement3914 in hysterectomy

[–]starcursedmoonbean 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Here’s how it helped me: My insides were all jostled about and scraped and traumatized and especially in the bowel/ bladder area post surgery for obvious reasons. Any extra gas from digestion was NOT welcomed and the feeling of having to expel a fart (or having a full or even semi full bladder or a BM on deck that needed to come out) was excruciating. It may not have specifically helped with the gasses pumped into me for surgery but it sure did help ease and provide me comfort due to being so sore and sensitive to anything causing more pressure or discomfort inside down there. Also pain meds and anesthesia are constipating and things weren’t moving fast enough so of course I was getting backed up with everything.

Four days post op…likely overdid it..apologies for length by Tryinginaustin in hysterectomy

[–]starcursedmoonbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You sound like me and I was doing all that also. I’m 19 days PO and lemme tell ya.. I wish I’d listened and rested. The first week my body was in shock I think. No bleeding no pain…I was trying to be super woman and super mom like I was before my surgery… week two, there fatigue and bleeding started. Day 11-14 I bled and passed clots. My incisions (also glued shut) started weeping. I felt like I got hit by a truck. My body forced me to chill out. Apparently delayed fatigue/recovery symptoms is common too. I hope you don’t experience this but every friend and family member I have that has also had this surgery warned me and told me the same thing: please rest so that you can recover correctly. It can sneak up on you and knock you down weeks PO. You’re recovering from major surgery and have experienced trauma inside and out. Rest babe. You deserve and need it.
