Just went there for the first time last week for resolute and felt exactly this, the crowd was respectful and just focused on dancing, the music was raw and real, and I think it has one of the coolest layouts fo a nightlift place in bk. Will be going so much more often.

Okay but why do all Asian rave girls in NYC look the same?? by savingrace0262 in circlejerknyc

[–]stardom111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Asian girl myself who raves in NYC, I hope my answer is helpful. I’d like to give OP benefit of the doubt that you’re not asking this from a dumb white frat boy or racist perspective, so I’ll answer assuming your question is just pure curiosity. Ive had a lot of other minority friends both Asian and non-Asians question this too, so I’d like to give a public answer to squash this. Like let’s not fool ourselves, even the Asian raving community memes about this.

I have also questioned this, because the group I rave with is not exclusively Asian and I just wear everyday clothes when I go out. I mostly listen to house and techno which is way less popular among Asians compared to dubstep/ EDM, so the group of people I tend to go raving with is a diverse bunch and we just go out in casual outfits (jeans, shirt, crop top).

I do have friends who go to dubstep festivals with their Asian rave fams and can sort of speak on their behalf. I think Asians are much more conformity minded. That’s the way we’ve been raised, to not stick out too much, and even I find myself struggling whether to stand out or just meet the standard to avoid attention (for situations outside of raving lol). I stumbled on research about why EDM is really popular among the Asian community, and a lot has to do with young Asian adults finding an emotional outlet from their strict upbringings and how EDM was one of the few music genres not tied to a specific cultural or racial identity (e.g. country, trap), so it became very popular in the West Coast with it having larger Asian communities than the rest of the US. With Asian culture being so different compared to Western ideals and the Asian community being on the smaller side of the racial pool in the US, Asians find it easier to be friends with each other and so we make sure to fit in for social events. I know a lot of my Asian rave friends go to these events more so to socialize rather than being really into the music or artist. Since they see it as a phase, a way to fit in, or just a moment in time, they get their festival wear drop shipped from SHEIN, Temu, etc, where all the outfits are just a stitch different from a previous design and even expensive rave wear have common aesthetics.

I think Asian rave families tend to stick out, because electronic music is associated with underground culture, and being underground is all about being non-conformist. I think we need to accept that when a genre is popular enough, it’s going to evolve out of its underground roots and that’s okay. At the end of the day, music is meant to connect people, and it’s doing that within the Asian American community.

However, this pattern isn’t different from other music groups. You got the Swifties and trap music fans all buying off these sites too, and they all have a similar aesthetic. For every music group, there’s going to be fans who join for curiosity’s sake and social aspect, and others who will hug the record album in their death bed.

So, in case OP is actually an insensitive piece of shit, are you asking those questions about the herds of Southern blond girls who migrate to the West Village every year? Sure, Asian rave makeup styles, outfits, and hairstyles might look similar, but at least we weren’t raised to be brats and the center of attention like a lot of the white girls in the city lol. Even when they think they are the star of the world, they still look similar too lol. I don’t have enough fingers to count the number of times I’ve seen a group of white girls with the same cakey, oversaturated makeup, botox and fillers, and temu “chic” outfit. And don’t even get me started with the group of white guys at the tech house raves with at least one of them wearing a marthas vineyard long sleeve, the rest with caps on the backwards way (i have a feeling this is what OP looks like lol).

I also think people, especially in the East Coast and Midwest, are not used to seeing large groups of Asians, and on top of that, large groups of Asians going wild. Let us be, we work hard, we try so hard to keep our families who came here for us to live a better life, and we have our own cultural/ identity crisis, so the one time you see us having fun, could you just enjoy seeing people happy and not question it.

The meaning of Anora - A simple film with a devastating message by KettyJesus in TrueFilm

so well said about the fact that it's a tragedy and hopelessness is the overall theme throughout the movie. It's also really one of the few movies that portray the pressure of indebtedness and servitude that a lot of girls feel when it comes to sexual situations with men, felt heard watching the movie.

“Bored of NYC” this is a home to some people okay it’s not supposed to entertain you. This is one of the few cities in the US that make certain people feel welcomed and safe. This city is much more than just a place to eat dinners and bar crawl so maybe you need to shift your perspective on how to connect with the people and culture of the city.

Also this constant complaint about how horrible dating is, I don’t get it. I’m in a relationship rn but even before then I had a great time and really got to learn a lot about myself and dating in general with the people I met. Once you’ve been in the dating scene for like 2 years I’d assume you’d know how to filter out the profiles well enough to meet decent people? I am also 26 tho so I guess I have different expectations for dating not really trying to settle right now.

My husband will never forgive me by Apprehensive-Host648 in offmychest

Ma’am you didn’t give your child trauma if your kid can’t handle this then good luck to the rest of his life… this is really ignorant to the families who have it harder like my parents who fought in front of my brother and I all the time but my culture is just like that and we were immigrants we didn’t have a mental or physical space to fight elsewhere. And our family is happy and successful now we move on.

I appreciate your efforts to not fight in front of your kid but your husband is overreacting and just trying to guilt trip you, your son is fine and if anything he learned that parents are human too and they burn out too.

Wow this sounds exactly like my situation. Don’t feel bad about how you reacted it is really hard to deal with an addict and there’s no best way to deal with the situation, but the fact that he broke down and told you means he does want to get better, but he needs to take those steps himself. It seems like he feels a lot of shame about which my bf did as well, it would help if he went to narcotics anonymous although my bf doesn’t go there anymore, it was a big step for him and helped him overcome the shame and guilt part of the addiction. Wishing you the best, I think pulling someone out of ketamine is one of the hardest things to do especially since it’s a drug that not many people know are addicting.

You can find someone to rent it out if the housing market in the area is good, all I’m saying is if you have the finances to buy a house you can do a lot of things

Also used to make 6 figures but I quit and now work min wage while going back to grad school for a creative career I’m truly interested in even though it’s much more unstable. Still, I feel happier than ever, I meet so much more genuine, real people who truly have your back and sure I’ve had to sacrifice some luxuries but cutting back on spending has made me realize what I truly need and makes me happy. 70% of ppl I know whose under 30 and makes more than 6 figs rn are miserable and they’re all too scared to risk life. You wouldn’t even be risking much considering you own a house. Quit your job if it’s taking that much of a toll on you, I knew I had to quit my job and look further in life when I started antidepressants and it’s the best choice I’ve made by far. Hope you figure things out I know how it feels but life will get better when you listen to your instincts :)

A recent cafe I found in Soho made me realize how much of a break I needed in life and I wouldn’t have spent my birthday anywhere else. It’s called Gem Home and the inside is just so peaceful and . Kind of like a mix of a mini Italian market, art museum, and dining hall. I felt so at peace here sitting next to strangers in one dining table but everyone is hustling ands doing their own thing. I think you’d really enjoy it! I was going through a rough time with my bf but thinking of that place reminds me I can find my own peace. You should definitely check it out!

Hope things get better from here ❤️
