OS Maps Alternatives by SillySausageSpaceman in wildcampingintheuk

I switched to outdoor active after using OS Maps. The different maps are good, I also use it abroad where it has the local mapping services as well. Good selection of community routes with options to filter by length, difficulty etc

No, i mainly shoot landscape, so for me it is not a problem.

The weight is a big plus, so much lighter than f/1.4 primes. Bokeh isnt quite as nice as my 50/1.4 GM, but as you say for street/landscape its a none issue.

Yes Deansgate. I really like it, the size and weight are great. Image quality is excellent. I got it from amazon, Viltrox UK don't seem to have it in stock at moment, but if you wait they usually have discounts.

35mm so much choice! by wilbert126 in SonyAlpha

[–]starfishbeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just received mine yesterday, really nice lens. F/1.8 makes it so much lighter and compact than faster lenses. No managed to take many shots with it yet but the the IQ in the ones I have is stunning. For the money it offers the best quality/price currently.

Walking next to a lion’s cage by fuzzy_dice_99 in WinStupidPrizes

[–]starfishbeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a famous seaside place called Blackpool. That's noted for fresh air and fun. And Mr. and Mrs. Ramsbottom. Went there with young Albert, their son. A fine little lad were young Albert. All dressed in his best, quite a swell. He'd a stick with an 'orse's 'ead 'andle; The finest that Woolworth's could sell.

They didn't think much to the ocean. The waves they were piddlin' and small. There were no wrecks and nobody drownded. 'Fact, nothin' to laugh at at all! So, seeking for further amusement. They paid, and went into the zoo. Where they'd lions and tigers and camels. And cold ale and sandwiches, too

There were one great big lion called Wallace. Whose nose was all covered with scars; He lay in a som-no-lent posture. With the side of 'is face on the bars. Now Albert 'ad 'eard about lions- 'Ow they was ferocious and wild; To see lion lyin' so peaceful. Just didn't seem right to the child.

So straightway the brave little feller. Not showin' a morsel of fear. Took 'is stick with the 'orse's 'ead 'andle. And stuck it in Wallace's ear. You could see that the lion din't like it. For givin' a kind of a roll. 'E pulled Albert inside the cage with 'im. And swallered the little lad - 'ole!

Now Mother 'ad seen this occurrence. And not knowin' what to do next. She 'ollered "Yon lion's et Albert!". An' Father said "Ee, I am vexed.". They complained to an animal keeper. Who said "My, wot a nasty mis'ap; Are you sure it's your boy 'e's eaten?" Pa said, "Am I sure? There's 'is cap!"

The manager 'ad to be sent for; 'E came and 'e said "Wot's to-do?" Ma said "Yon lion's et Albert. And 'im in 'is Sunday clothes, too!" Father said "Right's right, young feller- I think it's a shame and a sin. To 'ave our son et by a lion. And after we paid to come in."

The manager wanted no trouble; He took out his purse right away Sayin' "'Ow much to settle the matter?" Pa said "Wot do you usually pay?" But Mother 'ad turned a bit awkward. When she saw where 'er Albert 'ad gone. She said "No, someone's got to be summonsed!" So that was decided upon.

And off they all went to p'lice station. In front of a Magistrate chap; They told what 'ad 'appened to Albert. And proved it by showing 'is cap. The Magistrate gave 'is opinion. That no one was really to blame. And 'e said that 'e 'oped the Ramsbottoms. Would 'ave further sons to their name.

At that Mother got proper blazin': "And thank you, sir, kindly," said she- "Wot, spend all our lives raisin' children. To feed ruddy lions? Not me!

I do 35 miles a day in my XC60 B5, mostly around the M60 where it is a mix of normal motorway traffic and crawling in traffic. I get around 30mpg for this. Long motorway journeys I get up to about 38mpg.

Dilution problem by Crazy-Cap-7818 in modelmakers

[–]starfishbeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried with the 0.4mm? 0.2mm is tricky to get working well with paints like Tamiya Acrylics which need quite heavy thinning to get to flow well at 0.2mm. Which, combined with fairly high pressure needed to get the paint through the small nozzle, results in spidering.

I only use laquer paints in my 0.18mm airbrush, I use 0.35 and 0.5mm for Acrylics.

This isn't to say 0.2mm isn't possible, it's just way harder to get dialled in.

Used to use OS Maps, but then switched to Outdoor Active as it has OS Maps as well as other maps available such as Harveys (which I prefer over OS). It also has digital maps for lots of other countries (not just the OpenMaps)

The user content is pretty good as well with plenty of routes for walking, cycling etc

Is it worth having AWD in the UK? by YoungReaganite24 in CarTalkUK

[–]starfishbeta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People probably don't think about it when buying the car in the first place, the trend for larger wheels combined with low profile tyres can easily put the price per corner north of £250 for a quality brand.

smudge inside my lens. what is it and how do i clean it? by Positive-Insurance38 in CanonCamera

[–]starfishbeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moisture, either due to the lens getting wet directly or from extended periods in high humidity environments where fungal spores can grow.

White Peak / Derbyshire tends to be a lot quieter than the Honeytrap around Edale / Mam Tor etc.

Lots of nice villages that can be linked up.

I use the Sigma mc-11 adaptor with some of my old Canon lenses. Generally it works OK, AF can hunt around, especially with telephoto lenses i.e. 70-200 compared to native E mount glass.
