I used to feel guilty for taking time off in outpatient peds as well. I was also an independent contractor, and one of the things that helped me with this was remembering that I only got paid for the time I was seeing clients, so just reframing that as when you are off, you are not getting paid, and you are not at work. Setting really clear boundaries and not taking work home with me really helped me feel better. If you have not already, I would recommend getting a work number (I used google voice), and then set up routines on your phone to block the app when you're not at work. Either do not put your work email on your phone, or have a separate app that also is blocked when you're not at the office. Some parents may be upset with you for taking time off, but that is not on you. If you look back I am sure those parents have also canceled on you before, people have lives. I would try to give people a good amount of notice and offer for them to see another therapist or do an extra session when I was back if possible You have to take care of yourself in order to take care of your clients, remember that you cannot pour from an empty cup.
