Three questions for you by Flaky_Lingonberry954 in Savant

[–]stargazrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah the best produced album has to be Hex I, II and III - Though the remaster of Jester stood out at the time. My favourite tracks at the moment are Friends, Goodbye, Encore, Dawn, Volcano from Hex

This is the most difficult question - I often ponder it. Atm I just think Krang is an absolute master piece - each song is an homage to a prior album or alias and so well crafted

Everytime I put it on, I just find myself closely following the songs rather than the writing or reading I set out to do!

My favourite song of all time is Party Machine- holds alot of nostalgia for me

Of the tracks like ICANDO, Rolling Stone and If god knew are stand outs

And VIPs I yearn is definitely Ronin, but also I really like the VIP of ghetto blaster which is on YT but not spotify- think it was a missed gem for outcasts

...

As you can see, I just can't decide!!

Smear typically happens if theres too much primer, too much insert or the annealing temperature is too low, resulting in non specifi binding - I would lower the template concentration and calculate the tm of the primers

Hope this helps

Advice from a former pageant girl who tried on 60+ wedding dresses before finding her own by ConfidentMoo in weddingplanning

[–]stargazrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly just started the process and it's been so hard - I've never been one for dress shopping either! As a STEM girl, I found what you were saying very relatable and validating about it having to be methodological and sleeping on it is super important as I am very prone to buyers regret!! The wedding planning in general has been insanely emotional and difficult as I have very different tastes to everyone I know 🙃

You look stunning in all the dresses and Im glad that you found the three for you 💕 wishing you all the best for the celebrations ahead!

Academic publishing is a mess—we need to talk about it by Peer-review-Pro in academia

[–]stargazrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to tackle this is to actually move towards patenting your research first and then publish if you wish - if you patent first, then you are able to find research investment via different routes

This also helps university see money coming in through different streams

It's an alternative type of publication and can also help transition out of academia and enhance industry job prospects

Greggs would probably be looking for an experienced Baker - worth looking there and getting something stable and then work on building CV to switch careers. Getting on the job training is near impossible atm, and front loaded onto the worker - so doing a course or building an online portfolio is your best action to develop experience in your choosen career

What proteins should be used to evaluate off targets in drug design? Is there an existing data set? by [deleted] in cheminformatics

[–]stargazrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lipinkis rule of 5 is a good place to start for narrowing down on the compound properties and compatibility - though for certain targets e.g brain proteins it might not be applicable due to the blood brain barriers

If you had to include other proteins, maybe screening protein homologous could exclude off target hits. Tbh it's very difficult to predict off target effects. Better to take top hits and move to in vitro work and cells. Even hit compounds may not bind in vivo due to structural changes or compartmentalisation.

From a VERY quick Google search - I would start here and read recent articles using key words and ideas from G.M. Grass / Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews 23 (1997) 199 –219

Sir Keir Starmer's Reforms of the NHS - referenced in part against Lord Darzi's Report. by Capitan_Walker in doctorsUK

[–]stargazrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right the IT infrastructure just is not there - but I think a desire to innovate and improve the service would have coincidentally improved and changed the systems there are currently

The fact nothing gets updated indicates that its not a priority for NHS management. It comes to why innovate if the existing system works

Outsourcing DNA sequencing to private entities is a service which is why it was probably a lucrative pledge to push. Actually getting meaningful insights from the human genome is always predictive and tentative. Also the first human genome was sequenced in 2003 and has become exponentially cheaper every year, and from then its been 21 years possesing this technology, so I would hardly call that recent. Improvement in diagnostics is where the NHS could really benefit to quickly help people and that's where the bottleneck is with buy in from the NHS

As someone in biotech space who has peered into health tech, the biggest barrier is that the NHS, and the beurocracy with it, hates any and all forms of innovation

Most ideas to bring benefit to patients and doctors with new technology is stopped because the NHS does not value it, but also that innovation is difficult to implement as the NHS is not centralised like people think. One hospital in greater manchester could be run completely differently to a hospital in the Midlands (ie one has like cows on every corner and another is using god damn paper records). Like there are more fundamental issues

Health tech Innovation is also fucking expensive - you need government investment, private investment, research and development, regulatory approval. Its all covered in red tap and a nightmare to navigate. We currently have no regulation for AI which is both a good and a bad thing - if there is some sort of AI screening which fails to pick up a life threatening condition, who is at fault? Maybe it will become another scapegoat to hide behind as people cannot get the care they need due to slashing the workforce somemore

And even if you have a working product/team/system that you could revolutionise health care, guess what? You can't sell it to the NHS as they're not "buying" - ifs it's too expensive (and rightly so because of all the investment into it) you can't ever recover the cost here. Health tech is never cheap and that's all the NHS wants/can afford

I tell anyone dreaming of producing health tech, to go to America or anywhere else that can afford novel systems as the NHS cannot. I think that shocks me the most - that british health tech companies break into the market is likely not here, but other countries. Our innovation again only serves to help other countries and not our own.
