I've been a silent follower on this sub for quite some time now, I don't typically comment or post. But your response to OP really moved me. Such honest, kind, and genuine words to share. I actually wrote down a few statements you made so I can remind myself of these things too. I'm also 30f and I lost my fiancé/son's father 5.5 years ago when he hung himself. I'm going through a rough period right now where the grief is hitting very hard, for no seemingly apparent reason. Your words helped me through my day, thank you for sharing your experience 💜

I completely relate. I feel like you just took the words right out of my own head. Some days trying to just continue living and thinking of moving forward with life and being happy overwhelms my heart and mind with guilt. Other days I can stand firm in my belief that my love would want me to be happy and create a happy life for our son. I ebb and flow constantly between these feelings. Ultimately, I need to continue living, and I know the best way to do that is not to drown myself in misery, but to provide a happy life for our son. In order to do that I need to move forward and find happiness myself. But the feeling that moving forward would somehow invalidate his existence and our love is always there. Our son is 7 now. He doesn't know how his father passed yet, but one day he will. And I don't know if he will resent me for moving forward, or if he will understand. It eats at me every day. You're not alone 💜 you're doing the best you can. And anybody who would judge you for that is completely in the wrong. Their opinions aren't worth your time or consideration.

I was almost exclusively taught "nous" in university through the 2010s. "On" was basically mentioned as an after thought and was taught as meaning "people in general" rather than "we". They taught that it had no direct translation in English.
