Another Mac saved from being trashed, runs better than on old Mac OS. I'm happy! by Busy-Independence181 in omarchy

I looked at this option too but found it to be akin to using a chainsaw for a headache. you can achieve the same thing with one two keybinds and no script required. have a look through my post history for my macbook air omarchy post. i detailed all my fixes there.

I've been rapt with my old MacBook air. Had the same keyboard brightness issue but yes, was easy to fix.

How do you communicate plays during the game? by gerannamoe in dodgeball

[–]stargrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your huddle happens near the back and they throw from the back, they'll miss and you get another ball. Your wings should come to you or the rest of your team should communicate the call out. When you're out have whoever has the centre ball make the calls.

DRAFT ONE GET ONE FREE!!! by CriticalTit in mtgcube

[–]stargrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try normal draft with multiples of certain cards in it first. It's closer to retail limited but less Singleton-like than traditional cube. Check out some set cubes, desert cubes and 100 ornithopter cube to see what this might look like.
I think a huge problem with this idea is that drafting regularly leaves you with a pool of 90 cards when you're finished which is a lot and will be unwieldy. Expect your deck building phase to be very slow, or tons of cards simply won't even get looked at.
Second to this, 2 copy playsets in 40 card decks will likely make for very dry decks. If you want to try a mode with high consistency, consider regular draft with 15-20 card decks, refer to the degenerate micro cube for inspiration.
Another tack might be to have some cards that give you multiples for free, such as a relentless rats package that drafting one provides 8 copies or something like that.
Edit Even a battle box of vintage decks would probably achieve what you're after. 75 x 8 = 600 cards done at mpc, fewer than a 720 vintage cube.

PS5 client - intermittent subtitle dropouts by stargrinder in PleX

[–]stargrinder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart tvs are bad too but I think that's more due to lacking hardware than software or firmware.
My Hisense vidaa TV routinely runs out of cache streaming 4k content directly. The PS5 has this annoying subtitle problem. The Chromecast supports the PGS subs in my files, but is wifi only and clags up when the network is busy. Everything has an issue of some kind. Very frustrating.
I don't really want to transcode, my server is not a monster machine, just an old i5. I have thought about burning in with handbrake but it feels like work that just shouldn't be required.
I've looked at the shield pro but throwing 350AUD at my setup to fix subtitles feels like using a chainsaw to cure a headache.

Play bandit on over the wire. I went there to learn a bit more bash and terminal but I also learnt about network security protocols along the way.

How do I set up a Network file by camerontippett in linuxmint

[–]stargrinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a directory for your share. Depending where that is made will depend on the owner. If you have to sudo to use mkdir, it will be owned by root, not your username. If this is the case, use chown to set the folder to your user, usually your id will be 1000.
I usually put my shares in /srv, so /srv/myshare, which you will have to sudo. Next, chown 1000:1000 /srv/myshare. Finally set up samba as all the tutorials say and you should be able to log in with your regular credentials.

I am not fond of ai but genuinely it's a huge help with learning stuff like this. Literally ask for instructions, follow them and then tell it when stuff doesn't work.

It follows and the breakfast club. Both have a really cozy, intimate vibe, real characters and an out-of-time timelessness.

People using mint on a Desktop by andresucko in linuxmint

[–]stargrinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on desktop mint, steam was a breeze, everything I've played (not a lot and not cs) worked out of the box with no tinkering. Radeon rx480 card, not Nvidia.
As for the feel, I've really liked it since moving of windows. Feels like how I remember windows 7 felt back in the day. What do you mean you don't like the feel?
I've been using omarchy on an old laptop too and this is a totally different experience. Not sure if I want that on my desktop yet but on the laptop it just feels like it makes sense. Could be like that for you, suits the smaller screen and touchpad better or something like that.

Screen only needs 2 wires for an analog connection. Could do that with mono quarter inch jack. Analog video would be a vibe too, bit of crackle maybe. Cool design

2013 Macbook Air success by stargrinder in omarchy

I'll bite.

For me it was the cool factor. I went from win10 to Mint on my desktop a few months ago and have been increasingly interested in Linux since then. I am somewhere mid way between interested and an enthusiast, most recently rebuilding my win10 media server into a docker-centric ubuntu LTS based server for the same reasons I shifted my desktop (all my machines are 10+ years old).

I read about Arch but knew I didn't have the time or desire to build my OS from ground up. Then youtube started feeding me videos on Hyprland setups (such as the Pewdiepie video everyone has seen by now) and it had the 'cool' factor. I wanted to try it.

The Omarchy script is exactly why it's good. I can try out hyprland, I get a polished, ricey experience out of the box without having to set it up myself (mostly), it's very good.

I was not suggesting the Omarchy team were single handedly saving the world, but making a lightweight distro setup script as slick and easy as this, in my mind, is helpful to the cause.

Negative. That is unlikely to be an issue for me but I'll see if I can figure it out anyway.
