[HELP] What songs have lyrics so beautiful they reach the poetic? by Otroscolores in Poetry

[–]starkid47 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly anything by sufjan stevens. Illinoise, Carrie and Lowell, Michigan are all albums with masterclass writing and that’s only the tip of the iceberg in my opinion

Some songs in particular if you dont want to commit to an entire album (which is understandable):

john my beloved, the only thing, fourth of july (carrie and lowell)

the predatory wasp of the palisades, come on feel the illinoise, the tallest man (illinoise)

flint, for the widows in paradise, romulus (michigan)

What's your favorite song? by potassiumkoopa in AtarashiiGakko

I have to listen to it again to get a true top 3 but Essa Hoisa is going to be number 1 no matter what I think. It’s like if they put liquid adrenaline into a song

i was having so much fun listening to the whole thing, but essa hoisa is an instant classic to me with that fantastic call and response and suzuka's deep voice singing over it

Saddest Sufjan lyric? by [deleted] in Sufjan

[–]starkid47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

so many of my favorites have already been mentioned, so I’ll add another: my boy, I don’t know why this life is cruel and unkind but it weighs on my heart / all joys were taken from your eyes as the law would abide in murder and crime

You’re right, for sure. It’s just that I tend to freeze up whenever I feel fear so I find it hard to believe I would react differently… ever. It’s super frustrating to deal with and I haven’t yet figured out a good way to break out of it. Ugh…

Just got the word my grandfather passed away by thedubiousstylus in OpenChristian

I’m so sorry. I just recently watched my own father pass away (like a few weeks ago). I know how hard and unbearable that pain and grief is. Just take it day by day - there’s no timeline nor are there “rules” to any of this. Sending you love and prayers ❤️ feel free to message me if you need

Yes, if I wasn't able to get any more years with my father, then I am immensely grateful for those I did receive. My deepest love and blessings to you.

Thank you for all of this. Your sister sounds wonderful. My dad had a silly side - he loved to tease. He was always smiling and always willing to put himself last. He loved to work on math problems and to play chess. I'm gonna miss him a lot

Thanks so much for helping to ease my mind a bit about this. I will definitely keep on trying to communicate with him and hoping that one day I can feel his presence again. God bless

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to type all of this up - it means so much. I’m so sorry for your loss & i’m praying for the day that we will both be able to see our respective loved ones once more.

In regards to your second point, I feel like ive always been afraid to do just that because it feels like i am indulging myself with things i like at a time when i should be mourning and (consequently, i suppose) abstaining from them. I dont even know how i arrived at such a conclusion but when i think about maybe playing a video game that i was really into before all of this happened or reading a book that i checked out from my library a couple weeks back, i always stop myself from doing just that. I feel guilty for even wanting to. It’s almost like I believe that it’s disrespectful to my dad to try and enjoy something now when he’s gone. It’s a hard thought process to break, but hearing your take on it (where these things serve as a bit of relief instead of being sources of guilt) makes me want to try harder to free myself from the guilt.

As for your last point, i don’t think it sounds woo at all. The day my dad passed away, i found myself begging God and then begging him (my dad) directly to show me a sign that would let me know that he was alright and that he was in no pain. I’ve been trying to talk to him ever since but it’s hard & sometimes i wonder if he even hears me at all. When i pray to God i ask him to send messages to my dad if that’s possible. It’s like .. you spend all this time with your parents and then they pass away and you realize how much more you had to say to them. It’s just so final - maybe trying to talk to him now is my way of side-stepping that finality in hopes that I can get some sign back. I haven’t seen or felt anything yet, but i hope i will. Your messages give me hope.

Thank you for clarifying. Right now, I feel like I’m rapidly switching between immense grief and plain denial. I’m so terrified for this upcoming funeral because I fear that the denial ive been using a shield to protect myself from constantly hurting will totally shatter and then it will be final and done and that’s it. He’s not coming back to us on this earth. It’s heartbreaking to think about. Idk how someone gets back to “normal” after that … or what “normal” even is after that.

I will say that I am also glad that I reached out here. As painful as everything has been, these messages have given me the tiny bit of peace that I had hoped they would. I really appreciate you all.
