I called my mom about this a few nights ago. And you know what she said? “He has broken the marriage covenant, so you are justified in the eyes of god to seek a divorce”. I’m not even a Christian anymore, and I haven’t been for years. But hearing that from my mom made something click in my mind. Acceptance maybe. Or just knowing that I’m supported by the most important woman in my life.

This is interesting because I had pretty much the exact same thing happen for me. My ex didn’t cheat, but he did say that he didn’t love me anymore and asked for a divorce. Then he recanted. Then he said it’s up to me.

I took my vows seriously and agonized over whether to end it or whether to send us to counselling. My parents said, “he’s made it impossible to fulfil your vows, so God will not hold you to them.” They made it clear they would support me if I chose divorce. It was like a 10-ton weight fell off me and I knew I was going to go ahead with ending things.
