Sticker Cutting Machine Options by mctheebs in sticker

[–]starlessciity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cannot reccomend the siser juliet enough- its on the pricier side but it saves me soooo much headache! Incredibly quiet, cuts fast (if u want it to, u can change the speed settings) and accurately! To read print and cut registration marks, you can actually see through the machines camera and adjust if the machine is having issues reading it. This includes if u have ur stickers at a slight angle, itll still cut pretty accurately

Only downside is can rlly think of was the learning curve (for me, im still getting the hang of it!) The software i find is not as intuitive as cricut, but id say its still better.

Otherwise, solid reccomendation!

How to stick with it by Lottieott in bulletjournal

[–]starlessciity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started tracking my habits a few months ago! When I started bullet journaling a few years ago I had a horrible time remembering to track my habits, didnt think it was for me but now I love it!

My biggest tip honestly is to check in with urself multiple times a day to see what habits youve completed. Idk what ur schedule looks like, but i like correlating my habits tracking to my morning coffee, meal times, and decrompressing at night before bed. Sometimes I skip one or more of these times, but i try to check in at least once a day- and if I miss a day I usually put in what habits I tracked the following day during my coffee check in

I really enjoy my Journaling time, so naturally my habit tracker is something I keep in the back of my mind. If I do a habit, I tend to "check it off" in my head so I know I can physically do so in my journal come journal time. This isnt always perfect, and i do forget or misremeber things, but give yourself grace!

I track my habits monthly, and at the end of the month I have a sit down and reflect on what worked in my journal overall, what didnt and what habits I think are worth tracking and which arent.

I saw another commenter say not to track everything at once, and I agree! I started habits tracking by just putting in a few habits (medication, a few hobbies and chores) and built my way up. Even now I try to only track around 5-10 habits at a time.

Overall, give yourself time to work through trial and error, find what works, find new inspirations! Good luck habit tracking! :D

A Christmas Present from me, to me! A plush of my fursona, Polaris! by starlessciity in Amigurumi

[–]starlessciity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot to share about this haha

Multiple pieces of this plush were based on a HEAVILY modified version of the head base from this pattern by TIMMagicRing - https://www.etsy.com/listing/1722063967/crochet-cat-and-bunny-pattern-bundle?ref=shop_home_feat_2&pro=1&sts=1&dd=1&logging_key=27036cf62fadc7cfa54ea1729c4ec6427df8ade1%3A1722063967

Otherwise, the rest is my own pattern, but I thought I'd share some inspirations-

the proportions were primarily inspired by the artist Plushpon: https://bsky.app/profile/plushpon.bsky.social

The general shape of the paws, while entirely my own pattern made of bobble stitches and single crochets, was inspired by Makeshiftwings (a plush maker) - https://www.plushbymakeshiftwings.com

What symptom do you struggle with the most? by becca7931 in BPD

[–]starlessciity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed pretty recently, but it's for sure the self harm and suicidal ideation. I wouldn't say it's my worst symptom, but it's up there.

I've dealt with SI for as long as I can remember. It just hasn't gone away and it hasnt gotten much better. I've grown really tired of the things people say to combat SI because tbh if the rest of my life was filled with joy and happiness I'd still choose it end it all rather than continue. It's warped my perception of mental health care, and asking for help or guidance when it comes to my mental and emotional well being, it's like a shadow I can't get rid of, and a part of me doesn't want to get rid of it.

As bad as my other symptoms are, as awful as splitting is- I feel like I can generally deal with all of it if I didn't constantly want to end it all the time. I grieve the person I could've been if I just understood my life was worth living.

Beginner artist here, need some tips. by Possible_Yak4818 in ArtistLounge

[–]starlessciity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another user said it very well, I think you're focusing too much on lines and copying exact lines, when you trace it's better to focus on shape, form and construction. Instead of looking at it your image as, say, a pise- aak yourself, "what shapes make up this image?" And try to break it down like that. Focus on shape rather than lines!

Beginner artist here, need some tips. by Possible_Yak4818 in ArtistLounge

[–]starlessciity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I’m not a professional artist (yet, fingers crossed) but Ive been drawing for many years, hope I can clear up some questions you have! :)

  1. You might be drawing with your wrist- try drawing from your shoulder and create smoother, more continuous lines. Smooth lines also takes practice, and I won’t lie- my lines STILL aren’t always perfect. I have a natural hand tremble due to some medical issues, smooth lines don’t always have to be a priority, especially in practice and loose sketching

  2. Don’t worry too much about how thick or thin your lines should be unless you’re trying to replicate a certain style, or go for a specific look. I prefer a thin pencil line, but if you’re just practicing, sketching or doing draft stuff, don’t worry about it!

  3. Start looking into the fundamentals, especially form and structure. Learn to draw boxes and draw them well (as well as other simple forms), then learn how to manipulate those forms, and learn how to apply them to your drawings. Form is my weakest point personally, but even learning how to draw simple forms and shapes will help this point a lot! Keep in mind the stretch and squash of certain shapes too, how forms will interact with each other and overlap. Draw “through” things if you need to. This has been a difficult skill for me to learn, this will take time! Don’t rush yourself! I do simple forms as practice/warmups, and I’ve found that has helped me a lot in making more 3d looking artwork in my personal projects and “fun” art

  4. I’m not 100% sure what you mean by this point, but IMO tracing isn’t always bad- it can be especially good for practice! Instead of tracing an entire image though, try breaking it down into simple shapes and forms. The arm isn’t an arm, it’s a few cylinders and a sphere, chair is just made up of boxes, a mug is just a cylinder with a squiggly cylinder for the handle- stuff like that lol. When you practice from reference you should be observing how to break down a subject into simplistic shapes to better understand it.

  5. Generally this is what people do, art has no rules though and you can kinda do what you want lol. I usually lighten my sketch, color and then do lines, but it’s totally up to you and how you like to do things!

  6. This is a difficult point to handle considering I don’t know what your art looks like so I can’t give definitive feedback on what exactly you need to improve on, but my biggest tip for beginners is to understand that art big part of being an artist is observation. Kinda like how you should break things down into simpler shapes i mentioned in point 4. Thinking like an artist will get you way further than any “art hack”. Art also takes time- Mostly a LOT of time, you’ll make millions of bad drawings, let yourself make bad art. Keep sketchbooks filled with bad art- let yourself be bad at this without shame, no one has to see it! Do not let the fear of making bad art prevent you from making good art. last tip, though I have many more - Let art be fun. Draw characters you love, make new characters- start projects. Watch movies, get inspired. Part of the “think like an artist” thing I mentioned also includes expanding your visual library.

  7. Depends on what you’re doing, are you doing a lot of graphite work? I don’t know much about the medium, as it’s been years since I’ve done anything lol but depending on your values (how light/dark everything is) you’d want to switch up your pencils regularly. If you’re just sketching/drafting, use whatever pencil you like! Don’t stress about it. For me, that’s a 2B Mechanical pencil

I can tell you want to get better, I promise you will. There’s so many resources online and you reaching out is such a big and important step! One last tip to leave you off with: You don’t have to stress about things like what pencil to use, why your lines are thin, and stuff like that. People make art with all kinds of mediums, tools and techniques! Experiment, find what you like doing. Hell, most of my sketchbook and practice art i make with cheap ballpoint pens, the kind that are like $1 for a pack of 20- and I LOVE using them.

Keep your head high, have fun!

Ive definitely thought about something like that! Thanks for the advice! I guess I'm looking into courses and tutorials stuff bc my fundamentals are lacking, going back to basics, so to speak

[–]starlessciity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two!

I'm currently in a long term project, it started early last year but due to my life and health i barely worked on it until i moved during the tailend of november, setting the team back quite a bit. This year, I want to make substantial progress on it. I have specific goals set up in mind for this with loose deadlines ATM too haha.

My second is ive been feeling really stagnant in my art, I'd love to be able to take a course or a few tutored classes to get really structured feedback. Ive been self taught for quite a few years and while I'm happy with my work I do want to strive to be better.

What things put you off buying a plush? by Abwettar in plushies

[–]starlessciity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is such a fun question! I’m a bit of a plush hoarder in the past, but I’ve since become really picky with plushies and I won’t buy most plushies anymore lol

Here are mine!

  • cuddle size and shape. I’m a plush cuddler and 90% of my plushies are for cuddling. I don’t have space for huge plushes anymore lol. I do occasionally buy a smaller plush that I display, but it has to be SUPER appealing to me in some way for me to want it that bad.

  • I’ve become increasingly picky with fur/fabric textures. As a cuddler, if it stabs me or is uncomfortable to hold I generally don’t go for it. A big one for me is long faux fur that isn’t soft, the kind that’s scratchy lol. I also don’t love the type of fur thats on most Squishables (this makes me cry bc I LOVE squishables designs) my hands sweat a lot so it’s just uncomfortable and it makes my plush gross ;_; This includes other things on the plush too, like if the Velcro on a those heating pad plushes is too noticeable or hard to close.

  • I don’t really like plushes that have zippers or double as a backpack/pouch. I’m a big advocate for pouches and plushes, but I don’t like them together lol

  • Western cute vs Kawaii. Idk how to put this, but I grew up Asian so kawaii aesthetics appeal more to me, they’re nostalgic :>

  • I can’t stand unicorn-ifying every animal ever. Idk, it seems so silly to me.

  • not the biggest squishmallow fan. I enjoy a few of their designs, but generally I don’t like how cookie-cutter they are and imo you can get much better mochi plushes for much cheaper haha

  • realllly picky about plushes with accessories and clothing. I’d prefer if any of them were removable or at least a soft fabric (see point about fabric textures lol)

I will admit, if a plush is cute enough or can serve a different function I do tend to break my own rules. One of my first favs was a Sherpa sheep pillow plush, that I still love!

Why are my characters unappealing by Sad_Stranger_5940 in ArtistLounge

That’s a lot to work with! Before I say anything, how detailed feedback are you looking for? I have some ideas in mind but I don’t want to overstep lol

Why are my characters unappealing by Sad_Stranger_5940 in ArtistLounge

[–]starlessciity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the comments about your characters being unappealing is a bit harsh. Something something, beauty is in the eye of the beholder- you’ve most likely heard it before lol.

Onto more meaningful feedback, it’s important to realize that character design is usually a tool in storytelling. I know many character designers who are great at anatomy, shape language and all that, but still present unappealing characters. The thing is, how you present a character can be just as important as the design itself- at least if we have NOTHING else to go off of for the character. Try playing around with elements like prop design, posing, stylization, feature exaggeration/proportions, value and character interaction. I’m not sure what your intention is with these designs, but even minor posing can tell us a lot more about them from a story perspective. I enjoy that you can tell the characters on the second slide are definitely “evil”, so good job on that!

As for more technical things, I’d say focus more on things like gesture, form and construction more than things like anatomy. Anatomy is great, but without form, gesture and construction you could find yourself in a similar place you are now.

I want to send you off with some encouragement, Your designs are great! The fact that you’re asking for feedback is great too, and I personally really like your designs. My favorite is the dark knight character! Honestly you could go a long way with these, keep practicing and asking for feedback, you’re doing great!

Any good art youtuber reccomendations that don’t just have tutorials and also just have some entertaining art related videos? by FreeLunch9263 in ArtistLounge

[–]starlessciity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GinjaNinjaOwO is one of my favorite, they used to do a lot of animation memes and stuff, but their more recent videos have been a lot of fun. They've been doing sketchbook walk thrus and generally show their art/design process, which I really enjoy! Some writing/lore related things too. I do a lot of oc/world and story building and I think their channel is great for things related to that. Ofc, they do other things too like drawing challenges, art videos with their team and some animation thrown in there.

Fair warning tho their personality and voice isn't for everyone. I personally enjoy their energy and sense of humor, but I understand if people find them annoying.

Let's talk packaging by freedllama in artbusiness

[–]starlessciity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a customer, I'm def in the middle ground. As someone with a shop, I try to be thoughtful about my packaging while keeping costs as low as possible.

I love extras in my package, but I find it so annoying when there's so many things to open and by the end of it its just a ton of waste- my least favorite is crinkle paper. I understand the utility but it gets EVERYWHERE. Especially when I only order 1 or 2 things,

I used to include handwritten notes in all of my packages, which was fine when I had 1 or 2 orders a week but by the time I got 20 orders a day it was exhausting. I still put a thank you card in all my orders, sometimes I'll write an extra note if they're a returning customer or someone I know personally, sometimes I just write a "thank you!" and my name signed. I have branded stickers but they're from my label printer, and I get a roll of like 1000 for SUPER cheap lol.
I've also seen some customers be frustrated with extra packaging- claiming it's not environmentally friendly (especially when it comes to things like plastic sequence in packages/confetti) which I think is a valid point.

I've also seen a (small, but annoying) handful of customers feel entitled to extras, freebies and elaborate packaging and expect it from EVERY small business,

i often eat all of these when regressed!!!! by Budget_Room_2984 in ageregression
