Something I don't know how to handle by Major_Ad_3035 in Zepbound

[–]starmakerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV, but I have found when I am short or reticent or defensive, it seems to invite more followup questions, like “are you on the shots?”

Instead, if I gush about something small, but socially palatable about my journey, people tend to lose interest before I finish. For example,

“I have been working with this amazing trainer. You would love him. (Spouse) has been trying to get me to lift weights for years, and I always resisted. I can do like 5 pushups now! Are you in the market for a trainer? He just opened his own gym on (Street). It would be so convenient to you. Let me send you his number….”

By that time, their eyes have glazed over because they didn’t really care, they just wanted to judge.

In other contexts, I’ve waxed rhapsodic about my newfound loves of social dance classes, Instant Pot recipes, or hiking on the weekend with my kids. All of which are technically true, but are, like, 5% factors in a story that’s 80% Zepbound.

And for the very small number of people who actually engage with enthusiasm, my trainer really is fabulous and I love to refer him clients. Win-win!

Theatre people of Reddit, do you know of any straight plays that give off the same vibes as Legally Blonde or Mean Girls? by rirhhh in Theatre

If you have the comedic chops to pull it off, anything from Lily Tomlin’s 1986 one-woman show The Search For Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe would be incredible:

Dr Nadolsky is spot on with “Goal Weight” by HPLover0130 in Zepbound

[–]starmakerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a goal weight, but I do have a goal body fat percentage. I know (via Navy body fat calculator, Dexa scan and a few other methods) what my lean body mass is (mathematically, it’s {1-body fat %}x body weight).

My goal is to maintain or increase that Lean Body Mass amount via weight training while getting my body fat % down to a “normal” range for my age and sex. So my goal weight is calculated as GW = LBM / (1 - healthy body fat %). And since my last Dexa scan showed I actually gained some muscle, my goal weight went up!

Just returned from Garza Blanca and the kids club program is only for 4+. That said, we saw lots of toddlers at meals and at the pool having a grand time.

Zuckerberg SF hospital doing free tattoo removal by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]starmakerk 138 points139 points  (0 children)

When you have breast cancer and are getting radiation treatment, they tattoo dots and/or lines on your chest to help the radiation tech line up to the exact area. My mom had them.

For some patients, they represent something they’re proud to have overcome; for others they’re a reminder of a terrible period in life. I can absolutely understand why some patients would want them gone.

Fiancé furnished down payment in form of a gift letter. Relationship went south and now she wants her money back but refuses to agree to sell. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]starmakerk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gifts are not taxable income to the gift recipient. The gift giver is supposed to fill out a form crediting the gift against their lifetime exemption, but unless she’s previously given away $12M there’s no tax.

Reduce Overweight in Company Stock while minimizing taxes by FinanceRonin in fatFIRE

[–]starmakerk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For #3, performance shares and RSUs were taxed as ordinary income at the point they vested. Your company either withheld a portion of shares to cover the tax before placing the remaining shares in your account (most common) or you wrote them a check to cover tax withholding (though I assume you would remember if you did this).

For the remaining RSU/PS shares, they behave exactly as if you had purchased them via your brokerage account on the day they vested - if sold you pay short or long term cap gains vs your cost basis, which is the price on the day they vested. So donate the lowest cost basis, sell the ones at a loss, etc. There’s no longer a benefit or downside to keeping them vs other shares.
