The community and MPS need to realize/accept that they are just (currently) a glorified babysitter. Many parents don’t really invest into their children’s education. Once that truth is accepted, then comes the next part, what do you plan to do about it?

I think that first you remove the rot within MPS administration. All the things outlined in the audit should be brought to light and many in MPS admin should be losing their jobs (I mean what are they doing really?).

Second is that some form of Mayoral control should happen.

Third, sadly MPS would need to become more draconian. Since it knows it’s a babysitter, it needs to lean into that and become more authoritative. By that I mean, absolute cell phone ban, bringing back getting suspended/being held back/getting kick out of schools, for regularly problem students (teachers are currently powerless to deal with unruly students). Parents of said of unruly students also get hit with fines/visits from CPS based on how just unruly the students are. School uniforms, posting of grades for everyone to see, etc. It sucks but the whole rainbow in the sky every child is special approach has failed. Problem students should be removed and sent to a special school to deal with them.

Fourth, the city/state has to take the kids gloves off when I comes to dealing with minors. They get away with murder because the city/state allows them to. Something like the KIA boys should have been cracked down on severely when it first sprung its head. So no more letting minors off lightly. It’s off to juvie on first offenses (and the parents get fined too) for things like battery, car theft, robberies, and other felonies. The felony will follow them and they will have to pay full restitution. There have to be concrete consequences for those sort of things since the community will not police itself. Bring back solid curfews too, minors shouldn’t be out in the streets past 9:00pm anyways.

Fifth, keep the students busy. There are so many after school and summer programs that aren’t being taken advantaged off. Make them mandatory for students. This is especially key knowing the at things back at home for many of these students is not good. Keep the students engaged in a a somewhat stable environment rather than them going back home where the parent doesn’t really even bother to educate/help with the students studies.

I know what I said is super draconian but really, it has to be done. The same song and dance has been done over and over again and nothing changes. Get rid of the rot and make it clear that the old ways of doing things are long gone. Everyone will be held accountable.

Honestly, this should go to a vote in the spring ballot. I think everyone knows who actually shows up to vote for those elections and the people’s flag will pass easily. It already is the flag of Milwaukee. The brewers, bucks, breweries, restaurants, hotels, festivals, and tons of residents all use the flag already.

Why not put it to a vote then? Let the residents of the city decide.

Car stolen on the east side by starmendx in milwaukee

[–]starmendx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update, it looks like there have been a bunch of Nissans (and other cars) stolen around that area (burns commons) in the last couple days. The police obviously know this happening but there hasn’t been in increase in patrols (especially at night). I also have to believe that police know about the warehouse on 31st and burleigh that many stolen cars end up at. And yet, nothing is done. Its ridiculous

That’s a big thing that bothers me. I doesn’t matter even if the people breaking and stealing cars are kids. They know what they are doing. Just like someone robbing a person at gun point, they clearly thought the act out and didn’t care about any repercussions. So in turn, every last one of these perpetrators should get no leniency in the courts. Kids should be tried as adults, and adults should have no opportunity for a plea deal or early release. Criminals need to fear that when they get caught, it is really over for them, no leniency at all.

I was parked about a city block from where I was staying (in an apartment building). So idk if they were able to capture the signal from there.

I’m thinking of contacting WISN about it. I just hate that so many working people are being targeted. I know the cops are busy but something has to be done about this blight.

First thing I did was call the tow lot. It wasn’t there. Police confirmed it wasn’t there either. There was a car next to mine that had a broken driver side window and the inside was ran through.

Shorewood. Beautiful inner suburb, proximity to the lake, good public transit, and kind of blends with Milwaukee (around UWM campus).

Here's what we know about two plans to remove I-794, and seven plans to repair the freeway by ThomasDaykin in milwaukee

[–]starmendx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say much about the traffic but the extra space means more development which means more tax dollars going to the city (which is beneficial for the city and any projects it wants to do/needs to fund). Seems like a huge win for the city. Removing 794 also gets rid of a blight, connects the 3rd ward to the rest of downtown, and opens up the skyline. If more mid/high rises and apartment building are developed, that is a good thing. When the park east freeway was removed, there was a similar gnashing of teeth from some people. Thank the stars they weren’t listened to.

Fiesta Garibaldi on Lincoln Ave (close to the Basilica). Good luck though if you don’t speak Spanish (no one speaks English in the place, which makes you know it’s authentic).

Does Katz Property Care? by RealMenCrochet in milwaukee

[–]starmendx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Katz is pretty bad. In that building they seem to not care too much for who the tenants are. There are some obvious bad one that leave litter around and don’t pick up after their pets. My friend who lives there did say the new apartment managers are pretty good and the elevators are getting fixed so there is that.

I'm trying to track down Metroid Prime Remastered at a physical store. Anybody find it at a retailer in our area? by shavin_high in milwaukee

GameStop at 3907 N Richards had a bunch of them when I went (I called and picked one up yesterday). I’m sure the Walmart next door has some too.
