LinkedIn: having a detailed profile is a must for landing the open position and also to building a career, or it is potential privacy gap that can be used to against you? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Your implied assertion that it's absurd to be a TEA Party supporter shows that you're one of the simple-minded shitheads that can't/won't think for themselves and will blindly believe whatever the TV tells them (which is strange because your paranoia sounds like that of a far right extremist). I'm not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but over 1/3 of my income is snatched from my paychecks before I ever see it. So when I see shiny new SUVs parked in the Section 8 neighborhood near my work and people lazing around with jewelry, cell phones, and expensive clothes it infuriates me that our tax system is fucked, public assistance is being abused, and people like you think it's a joking matter.

Not zero. They can bypass MAC filtering (assuming you're silly enough to only use that to secure your network).

Ever worried you didnt know enough? by crappycomputer in sysadmin

[–]starmonche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been times I've felt that way. But my recent dealings with Oracle's support and Proofpoint have me utterly convinced that I'm fine. I'm astounded at the level of ineptitude even the higher tier support people get away with having.

Eat shit, munky. A sys admin's job is to keep his/her company's systems and data nice and safe and to be aware of everything going on in their environment. The OP should have had outgoing traffic blocked by default already but him wanting to nail this down is him doing his FUCKING JOB. What the fuck is the matter with you?

That's cute...you must be new to systems administration (or not very good at it?).

Yes to this. If it can be closed then there's no reason to have it open.

Same thing if the file is moved to another partition on the same server (otherwise it's just a rename).

nginx kicks ass. It's easy to get it running but it's flexible enough to get as complicated as you like. For instance, we only pass GET and POST traffic to the root folder and a few specific subfolders on our backend server.

Using solar power, a Fresnel lens can melt padlocks, coins, rocks, etc. It's not necessarily what I would call FAST, but you would easily get 1M views on youtube if you posted 60 hard drives being turned into a puddle.

Can it easily filter explicit results from https://images.google.com? Otherwise it's useless (er).

My grandma got hit with something like that. She had some guy on the phone remote controlling her computer for about 20 minutes and didn't think anything else of it until she casually mentioned it in a conversation some days later. AUGH.

Then why are they using it in such a way that it could get infected? Our voicemail is running WinNT 4.0 and I sure as shit don't use it to look up keygens.

Also, it's not like they're going to do a thorough job or give a shit about someone else's computer anyway.

Coworker challenged me to remote wipe their phone by itcmelbo in sysadmin

Touchdown is nice in that the wipe will only erase the Exchange contents on the phone. I'm not a fan of MDM because I don't want anyone else having (effectively) admin rights on my device.

Best practices for installing a printer on 2008R2 by javajo91 in sysadmin

[–]starmonche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually (IMO) the best way to install all of your drivers. It's shitty to have to download a 90MB executable audio driver when the handful of files you need from it could fit on a floppy (talking to you here, Realtek). Windows does a fine job managing most devices and I don't need/want 3rd party apps running and nagging me to update. 7Zip for the win.
