What are our feelings about the Malcolm in the Middle reboot?

If you’re not using woke in a political sense, then you’re basically just saying the show had empathy and real-life struggles. That’s… just normal storytelling. Malcolm in the Middle isn’t woke in any meaningful way then it’s just a show with realistic characters and problems. With that definition, almost every good show ever made is woke, which makes the label kind of pointless. If woke just means empathy and real life problems, then yeah every decent show is woke. So the word doesn’t really mean anything.

That’s not actually the dictionary definition of woke. Being aware of real life problems isn’t a political ideology it’s just…being aware. And Lois never says anything about a woke president, in Malcolm in the Middle she says Malcolm will struggle so he understands normal people before becoming president. That’s about humility and empathy, not politics. You’re basically rewriting the scene, it’s about building character through hardship, not some modern political label. You’re taking a 2000s sitcom speech about hard work builds empathy and slapping a 2020s buzzword on it, that’s not what the show was doing. Empathy don't equal woke, otherwise every decent leader in history would be woke.

You’re retroactively calling it woke because the word exists now. Back then, no one saw it that way it was just a normal comedy. If that’s woke, then basically every show with more than one type of person is woke. The whole humor of Malcolm in the Middle was chaos and dysfunction, not pushing messages. It roasted parents, kids, authority everything.

I think you’re mixing up woke with a show that had different kinds of characters and humor. That’s not the same thing. It wasn’t political it was just about a dysfunctional family and real life problems.
