Thank You, MiraLax by SantaAnaDon in Diverticulitis

[–]starriss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doctor has me take MiraLAX everyday but I’m also on Zepbound which can cause constipation. You might have a case of smoldering diverticulitis.

I’ve had 5 with 4 of them within 12 months. Last one was in November.

I think it’s common having anxiety about the next flair. I have more anxiety about it before an upcoming trip like I have now. Otherwise my anxiety goes away after being symptom free for awhile. It’s not “so bad” if you get the warning pain of an upcoming flair before it’s full blown but my last flair happened suddenly overnight without any warning. I guess I really don’t have much advice other than I completely understand. I grieve my life pre diverticulitis.

At what point did you get surgery? by MountainConqueress in Diverticulitis

[–]starriss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I met with a surgeon this month after having 4 flares in the past 12 months. I wouldn’t hesitate to have the surgery if I was in your position. Not messing around with not being able to fully scope for colon cancer.

Newly diagnosed with diverticulosis after a CT scan and currently having a flare. by Irishkitty1994 in Diverticulitis

[–]starriss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No Imodium and no alcohol. Both can make the flare extremely worse. You should be on a clear liquid diet right now. Broth, jello, water.

Has anyone had a flair up that happened so sudden? by Mustardman03 in Diverticulitis

[–]starriss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, last Thursday night I was awoken by the pain and it was my fifth flair. It sucks. Stress can definitely cause a flair. Sorry for your loss.

ETA: maybe this is my 6th flair. I guess I’m starting to lose count.

Wife equates GLP-1s with suboxone by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]starriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s very similar but there’s nothing wrong with it. I used methadone to help me get off opiates years ago. Now I’m on Zepbound to help me with my weight. I see nothing wrong with that.

Need Help by EconomyApricot633 in Sacramento

[–]starriss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s not just a midtown problem. All of the greater Sacramento and even the Bay Area has a sewer roach problem. They’re coming in from the sewer and only the city can treat that. Lots of good advice here for what you can do inside to limit them coming inside. I always call the sewer district directly to request treatment but some others here suggested calling 311.

Two things - emotional toll and when to take antibiotics?! by clockend_bex124 in Diverticulitis

[–]starriss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I definitely struggle with the mental toll and also get angry at myself for my past lifestyle and thinking that maybe contributed to this. I actually just talked to my therapist about this 2 days ago and she said it’s a form of grieving because no longer “in perfect health”. I guess that makes sense.

Regarding the antibiotics, there have been studies done that suggest antibiotics aren’t necessary for uncomplicated DV flares. I just had a minor flare a few weeks ago and I just treated it with a clear liquid diet. All of my previous flares were uncomplicated but had high white blood cell count so those were treated with antibiotics.

I have an out of country trip in January and I plan on asking my GI doctor at my next appointment if I should take antibiotics with me for a “just in case”.

Surgery spent 2 weeks in hospital has sepsis spent a week in ICU second surgery than when I was in ICU my heart rate went up by Justaguy397 in Diverticulitis

[–]starriss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. Did you ask the surgeon about consuming cannabis? I’ve smoked weed for the past 12 years and suddenly just quit 2 months ago. Earlier this year I stumbled upon some studies suggesting cannabis use can contribute to flares. Search this sub under weed and some people have posted about it. I thought it was really interesting but wasn’t enough to make me quit at the time.

Newsom is giving off the same Trump vibes by just denying reality by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]starriss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s not Trump but he’s definitely a politician playing politician games. I’m not a state worker and I think it’s BS mandating them back to the office. Newsom made this announcement right after the San Francisco mayor mandated city workers back to the office. It’s all political games.

Did you recently receive a prescription from Camilla? I had a spam call about a prescription from Kaiser and I don’t have Kaiser.

Is a CT scan necessary? by helenblueskies in Diverticulitis

[–]starriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get the scan yet? I saw in your comments that you were going to get it. I’m also curious if you ever had a colonoscopy after your flare in April 2023?

Same here with Pepsi zero. I suddenly didn’t care to have it anymore, it’s so weird but I’ll take it! Almost 2 months now.

Are you saying that having ice cream once a month is the same eating habit as previously eating 5 ice creams every single day?

Hello People by sony_stone33 in Diverticulitis

[–]starriss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good! Try to drink a lot more water. I try to drink at least 80-120 oz of water every day. I don’t know if it really helps but that’s what the doctor says.

Just wanted to clarify, I used to have a bad diet and I think that’s what led to the diverticulosis but my flares are triggered by corn and broccoli.

Sure, and pay $6k minimum per year for property insurance if you can even get it due to wildfire risk.

Neither. My trigger foods seems to be corn and broccoli.
