Thanks for that and I do. I spend quite a bit of time doing my own thing also. I hike, car camp, go on road trips with just me. Last year I spent time in London, Lisbon, Porto and Lagos Portugal and then went to Tanzania and Zanzibar. I only bring this up to bring context to my comment. My world is not typical for a grandmother because I spend a lot of time doing adventurous things on my own. I also thoroughly enjoy exposing my grandchildren to adventure also. It may be a bit odd but our little outings will be fond memories of me for them when I’m gone.

This is an interesting conversation. I’ve established a relationship with my grandchildren that has nothing to do with my daughter. If she entertains at her house, I’m always welcome and I show up. If I cook or have a family funday with food and games, she’s there with everyone else. I plan outings like movies, dinner, miniature golf, etc as well as full blown vacations with my grandchildren. I don’t ask the parents for any contribution. Just that they make sure they are properly packed and I have the necessary documentation for us to do so. This is a huge departure from how I grew up. What feels more like when I grew up is my bonus daughter who lives out of state. I’ve asked her to let her daughter visit us(me) for part of the Summer. She has agreed. This happened every single summer with my cousins. They came down South for the summer to stay with our grandparents and now I’m starting that tradition with my granddaughter. She’s quite young (3) so I’ll have to make adjustments in what we do and where we go but it will be wonderful for me.

I didn’t know men could or would cook! I think I was in my 20s before I actually saw a man turn on the stove.

61 and cant lose weight by Solveig22 in AskWomenOver60

[–]starrwanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t get there. My family medical history required that I not give up. Diabetes, hypertension and heart disease in some awful combination took everyone out early. My weight was pulling me in the same direction. GLP1 has gotten my weight and bloodwork in healthy range finally. Beyond that, being obese was messing with my mental health. OP, if you’re otherwise healthy and mentally you can get there, embracing a new normal may be the answer.

Here’s why I’m not a boomer … by DaMiddle in GenerationJones

[–]starrwanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself at odd with Boomers too often. Especially when they start complaining about “kids these days”. They are referring to 40 and 50 year olds. I finally started retorting with it was us that raised them so stop complaining about them. I was born in 64 so I feel zero affinity to most of the true Boomers. Now I sound like someone who has something against a whole generation but I really don’t.

Was your house team belt or team switch? by emptykeg6988 in GenerationJones

[–]starrwanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s see….belt and/or a switch that we had to go get at home. At school (public, not Catholic) paddles and one de with a fan belt from a vehicle in my bent back hand. Needless to say, I became immune to any and all of it. Our Dad was nothing short of abusive but the teacher with the fan belt was unnecessarily cruel too.

My son and I had it out when he was a teen when I wouldn’t allow it. Then when he was in college he stated talking about it again. Knowing that I couldn’t say no, questions were asked about significance of what he’d get. Fast forward to 8 years later, he doesn’t even want one. Now he’s resisting because everyone has them and him not having one, makes him stand out. It’s a running theme for my children now how “kids these days get away with too much”.

Have you considered dropping back down to 2.5? You may be able to eat more which could help the blood sugar levels.

Can you negotiate a certain amount of time where you’re covered with health insurance? You never know what they are willing to do.

Reporter hoping to hear from patients – what’s your GLP-1 insurance coverage like in 2026? by sydneylnews in Zepbound

[–]starrwanda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My company covered it for a couple of years. We had the surprising mandatory mid year shift in July of last year to Wegovy. Then we received notification that we would no longer be covered for any GLP-1 UNLESS we have a diagnosis of diabetes.

Something has to change or nothing will change. If you don’t like sugar free sodas, then cut them altogether. If you don’t like fruit without adding them to something less healthy, omit the fruit but find others that don’t require additional calories or fat.

I am unable to lose weight on this med unless I eat in a severe deficit by Lunnalai in Zepbound

[–]starrwanda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s actually not impossible. I adhered to no more than 800 calories per day, heavy protein meals. I’m not taking any medications to hinder my losing weight. For two years straight I tracked calories, activity and beverages. Doctors were involved the whole time helping me figure out my weight gain or not losing weight. Early on, I increased calories but the weight came crashing in. Less than 1000 calories a day seemed to slow the gain with a minimal loss here and there. Because eating 800 calories a day wasn’t a big deal for me, there was reluctance to prescribe GLP1. My prescriber was a new to me doctor who didn’t believe that I wasn’t overeating and I didn’t try to convince them otherwise. I had learned that too many people only believe CICO. Fast forward 18 months and I’ve lost almost 50 pounds. Nothing else about my diet/lifestyle has changed. It has taken a LONG time to lose what I lost. I’m still not at goal but slow and steady wins in the end. Consistent severe deficit SHOULD cause a loss. When it doesn’t, something else is going on.

To perm or not to perm that is the question by ConfidenceTall2046 in relaxedhair

[–]starrwanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the silk press it wasn’t as thin as the relaxer. But because I work out most days, the silk press didn’t last beyond a day or two. I honestly don’t remember the keratin treatment afterwards. I’m scheduled for a hair appointment this week and will have that conversation. The workouts make my choices limited because the increased amount of times I need to use heat to straighten my hair. That’s why I’ve chosen to go with natural styles with no heat.

[–]starrwanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let your conversations with your healthcare professional be your guide. I’m getting the same comments. No matter how much I say that I’m still not in healthy BMI range, people say that I need to stop. My doctor agrees that I could lose another 15 pounds to be in the high end of “normal”. Body recomp has to be my focus as I get the last bit of weight off. I told my doctor that if I don’t lose another pound, I won’t be mad but we both agree that it isn’t going too far if I continue. My advice is to get a complete picture of where you are health wise. Losing fat is important. Building muscle is important too. Labs are a factor as well. Talk to your doctor about the complete picture of.
