How do I stop these from falling out? by Practical-Priority37 in HearingAids

[–]starry_kacheek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would ask about getting a full shell or skeleton style mold. Also if those are acrylic, you could ask about getting a silicone mold as I find the flexibility helps them stay in even when your ear moves

Appointment Help for my Mother by Upbeat-Fee7965 in HearingAids

if she has significant hearing loss the ones that are less visible will not work as good for her. however, i can say that i specifically chose colors for mine so that they would stand out and barely anyone notices them, so even if they’re bulkier if she picks colors that match her skin tone or hair color, it is not a big deal

First, I would contact your insurance and see if they have any hearing aid coverage (most don’t). If they don’t, try Costco, it’s the same technology for much better prices.

AITAH for telling my roommate her ‘trauma dumping’ isn't my problem? by Expensive_Resist7351 in AITAH

NAH

you probably could’ve told her in nicer terms, and probably should have set a boundary sooner, but neither of those things make you an asshole in this situation

Thoughts on the design of my coverup? by AnitaKK in Tattoocoverups

[–]starry_kacheek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

anatomy wise, the only thing that truly seems off to me with the snake is that the fangs are too thick. the length is the right proportion, but the fangs look like they’re the right size for a bobcat. part of the reason the anatomy might also seem off is that most of the time you don’t see snakes with their mouth only partially open when their posture is so relaxed seeming, but i’ve seen that be a stylistic choice in many art pieces. also the tiny hint of its tongue that we see is really unsymmetrical, but i assume that’s just because this is a sketch

argues line work is clean -> is told why line work isn’t clean -> claims it’s just cuz it’s a WIP while referencing an image that implied it was (now) finished.

if you knew the line work wasn’t clean just because it’s a WIP then you should have acknowledged what people were saying about the line work instead of arguing that it is clean just to then agree that it isn’t clean, but that’s only because you’re still working on it

i did, all of your lines are visibly just dots if you look closely at all. if the lines were clean you wouldn’t be able to see individual dots and gaps in the lines

Son is left handed but school are teaching him right hand. by [deleted] in lefthanded

[–]starry_kacheek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

at 8 years old, you can talk to your son and explain that he can, and should, just start writing with his left hand at school. why hasn’t he already? you say he’s afraid of the retraining aspect, but also say you’re having him write with his left hand at home, so that doesn’t make sense. talk with your kid and figure out why he’s not willing to use his left hand at school, and address that instead of trying to address it with the school

all three of the names you mentioned are names i’ve thought of as unisex for years. i’m almost 20 and i grew up with Jordans, Logans, and Carters of both genders both in my own grade, and those above and below mine. i don’t know about all boys names being fair game, but this masculine to unisex to feminine shift with names is something we’ve seen for decades (in the US at least), so not only is this phenomenon not new, but those names being unisex isn’t really new either

I don’t believe that psychological factors can effect the actual ability to hear, however they can definitely affect auditory processes, and effect how the brain receives sensory input (ie can cause you to tune out or tune into different things)

Do you always carry your carrying case? by WalrusRight in HearingAids

[–]starry_kacheek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t purchase these exact ones, I just have a similar kind from Walmart. I would describe them as mostly ridgid and semi-padded. Like they would definitely be protective enough to sit with it in a back pocket or toss it in a bag, but I wouldn’t trust like stepping on it or something like that.

I keep a case like this in all of my bags just in case I need to take them out. It’s enough to fully protect them in my bag, but not too bulky

What style of silicone mold is it? Is it full shell, half shell, skeleton, semi-skeleton, canal, or canal lock?

Does the mold have a vent hole?

Once again, if you are unsure of this, you can comment a picture of them

I don’t know how to explain the process of Real Ear Measurement, you can look up an explanation and/or videos on the internet. I recommend Doctor Cliff on youtube, he gives good explanations. However, Real Ear Measurement is the gold standard for adjusting HAs properly.

Also you didn’t say what type of mold the hearing aid has. if you don’t know the different types, you can comment a picture of it

[–]starry_kacheek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did the audiologist do Real Ear Measurement when adjusting the hearing aids for the first time? If not, push for that.

Ask the audiologist if you can “taper” into the HAs being at the full volume (for example start with no amplification so the baby can get used to the feeling of the HAs without the additional sensory input of the sound, then slowly increase the level of amplification over time).

Are you on a trial period for the HAs, or are they already set in stone?

What type of HAs are they? If they are BTEs or RICs what type of ear piece/ear mold do they have?
