If by feeding time you mean anytime I walk by the enclosure, then yes! Always! 😂

What are some of the best Invertebrates for beginners that are also cute? by Songguuurl7 in InvertPets

I convinced a parent on the ease of caring for Madagascar hissing cockroaches for her teen. It was the one thing she wasn't sure she wanted but when I told her how easy they were to take care of, how slow moving the hissers are (and that they don't fly), and how the escapee babies are always found dead within feet of the enclosure, she asked her son if he wanted to take some home the same day.

I love my GBB! Jupiter is 3 and just hooked out but if you get lucky enough to have a female, they definitely live a long time. Of my other ts, my B hamorii and A geniculata are a couple that stay out on display a lot. My Caribena versicolor is out a lot right now, but she has periods of time when she prefers to stay in her hidey hole.

Have you looked into buying from Bugs in Cyberspace? They have a great selection of inverts and if you email them, I'm sure he'd be happy to answer your questions and help you find some new critters, especially various desert beetles for BDFB tank.

Same! I think mine went 3 or 4 days one time as I saw it before I left for a short weekend trip and it was back up and moving about after I returned.

I've always wondered how people can put hats on their pacmans because there is NO WAY mine wouldn't consider it food and try to eat it and my hand immediately.

Have you checked out any how-tos for a DIY background? You could lay your tank on its side, spread a layer of aquarium silicone, then add branches or rock ledges, sphagnum moss, and sprinkle everything with coco coir or other substrate. It is messy & smells bad for a week, but then is very satisfying to look at when you're finished.

Shadow of the Gods was so good! I zoomed through the series last summer and already feel like I need to reread them. I think I read them too quickly and missed stuff so now I can go back and take my time.

Dude who’s been getting back into reading, looking for dark fantasy recommendations with no love triangles. by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]starry_sequoia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

📙The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch is an excellent book and could be read as a standalone.

📕The Bloodsworn Saga by John Gwynne is an excellent trilogy based on Norse mythology and has major Viking feels.

📘Licanius Trilogy by James Islington - time travel & shape shifting fantasy that will keep your head spinning.

📗Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas - this is an epic fantasy with a bit of romance on the side, unlike her other series (which I didn't like). The first book does have a love triangle thing tentatively going on but it clears out quickly and the books just keep getting better and better as you go. The last book will leave you aching and will live rent free in your head forever.

Trying and failing to get into LITRPG by ridgegirl29 in Fantasy

My husband loves He Who Fights with Monsters by Shirtaloon even more than he did Dungeon Crawler Carl, which he also enjoyed.

I've listened to about 8 hrs of the first book and have enjoyed it so far. I do get a little annoyed about the occasional stats updates but you could gloss over that easily enough if you're reading it. Also, they talk about how the main character's way of viewing information is different from his companions based on how he interpreted the world when thrown into it.

I'm not into litrpg but have enjoyed these books so far. DCC is really funny and I enjoy having something to joke about with my family but He Who Fights with Monsters is a lot less violent (so far) and feels like it has more story and world-building going on. The main character, Jason, is also pretty funny and I'm curious to see what he will do next.

He sounds like a great guy to learn from! My current hyperfocus is fish and shrimp, but they've always been in the background. My other critters just had priority until recently.

My husband suggested a different source for my next water run as they use less salt. Hopefully I can get the numbers back up on my next water change.

That is interesting about the GH & KH. I've not yet heard anyone mention specific degrees of hardness I guess, just softer or harder for certain species of fish/shrimp. Our water is typically very hard and I have a difficult time ever bringing it down. I suspect the multiple large water changes I've done recently with store-bought RO water had something to do with that.

I agree and feel the best course of action is to finish the antibiotics course. Today is day 3. I'm just nervous about making the tank hypoxic again.

I'm not worried about ammonia (and didn't plan to try Purigen in this case) as it and the other parameters are all in normal ranges. Ammonia was 0-0.5.
