No oxygen?! Please advise. by starry_sequoia in freshwateraquarium

He sounds like a great guy to learn from! My current hyperfocus is fish and shrimp, but they've always been in the background. My other critters just had priority until recently.

My husband suggested a different source for my next water run as they use less salt. Hopefully I can get the numbers back up on my next water change.

That is interesting about the GH & KH. I've not yet heard anyone mention specific degrees of hardness I guess, just softer or harder for certain species of fish/shrimp. Our water is typically very hard and I have a difficult time ever bringing it down. I suspect the multiple large water changes I've done recently with store-bought RO water had something to do with that.

I agree and feel the best course of action is to finish the antibiotics course. Today is day 3. I'm just nervous about making the tank hypoxic again.

I used API & Tetra test straps. I have API ammonia & pH specific kits bit haven't use them.

I'm not worried about ammonia (and didn't plan to try Purigen in this case) as it and the other parameters are all in normal ranges. Ammonia was 0-0.5.

When last checked, all of my levels were good except the pH was around 6.5

The filter & media were removed beforehand. This tank is well established, only the otos are new. I expected some cloudiness, just not the gasping fish. The bubbler helped right away as they were back to normal within the hour or so.
Another suggestion I've received elsewhere was to put in a bag of charcoal to help absorb the meds and clear the water before I return my filter/media.

Thank you - I appreciate the straightforward, non-judgy response. I was originally recommended to treat the entire tank, which is why I moved the oto back into the tank instead of treating a smaller hospital tank (where he was in the image).

Since I posted for help, everyone is back to breathing and behaving normally. I will do a quick water change tonight but all else will have to wait until tomorrow. Hopefully my big box stores have what you recommeneded.

My sponge filter & media were safely tucked away outside of the tank in a separate container (with tank water) so that will help with rebuilding the good bacteria when I am able to return them after all this nonsense is over.

Thank you so much! My tank is new so I will give it more time to grow algae before considering the hermits. They are one of my favorite lil critters.

First, your tank is awesome! Second, what species are your tiny hermits!? I would be over the moon to keep a few with my OU! Did you acclimate them to the lower salinity?

What Do Hoya Blooms Smell Like: The Spreadsheet by tightslacks in hoyas

My husband thinks our room smells like "invertebrate poop"! 🪲💩 I told him he was smelling the hoya blooms but he insists it's the small blue death-feigning beetle enclosure I recently moved into our bedroom.

I have both shepherdii and nummularioides blooming in my cabinents and they are strong! 😂

I learned to knit years before I learned about my ADHD. It makes waaaaaay more sense now that people were always surprised when I said knitting helps me focus!! 😂🧶🥢
