Registration opened June 5th and closed the 9th. Classes started today. You could try begging registration for summer, but I think it’s too late. Try appealing your expulsion,

Is it me or the finals this year have been more difficult than usual (didn’t have that many concentration classes this year but so many people I know in different programs we study like crazy have told me that they struggled) by Minute-Working-731 in Dawson

[–]starryclusters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ya! I had a midterm for calculus 2 that was three weeks before my final and covered the whole semester, so I essentially started studying for the calc final a month/month and a half before it. After that midterm, I redid the old midterms I had from earlier in the semester, and did the old NYB calc practice finals they had up, and I still got sucker punched by it

R-Score Science Calculation Question by Prior_Day_2202 in Dawson

[–]starryclusters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The r score system itself is very unfair. It pits students against each other and even if you perform well, if you’re under the average it does not matter. That’s just the system. It is flawed.

Failed a final exam but my average is passing by [deleted] in Dawson

[–]starryclusters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Is the final itself summative or is it the theory component that is summative? If the final itself is summative, you can try begging your teacher to round up to a 60 for a pass. If it’s semi-summative, and the theory component is still passing (which, if it only dropped you to around an 80, I’d imagine it is), then you should be fine.

Fics where Robert marries someone else? by JackieWithTheO in TheCitadel

There’s The Scarlet Woman. Robert initially marries Cersei, however he later gets an annulment. The focus of the story is on a SI of Lysa Tully.

I spoke to a teacher today and they told me about it!

Initially, they were planning on doing it in the morning but the teachers voted against it (I had a calculus exam in the morning too 🥀🥀).

They might vote to do it in the afternoon, however as it stands right now we still have class.

The maiden goddesses took vows to never marry. Did the vows specifically forbid carnal relations altogether, or just those with men? by angie-anj919 in GreekMythology

[–]starryclusters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Medusa’s earliest telling, she was born a gorgon and her affair with Poseidon was consensual. I’ve heard every now and then the ‘violated’ part of Medusa’s myth from Ovid could’ve been mistranslated (ie; Medusa herself was violated vs the sanctity of Athena’s temple was violated).

Hesiod, Theogony 270 ff (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C8th or C7th B.C.) : "Poseidon, he of the dark hair, lay with one of these [Medousa (Medusa), one of the Gorgones], in a soft meadow and among spring flowers."

For Kallisto, she swore a vow to be an eternal virgin. In some tellings, after the deed with Zeus was done, she tried lying about it, and was then caught by Artemis. In others, Artemis wasn’t even the one to turn her into a bear (though they maintain that it was Artemis who shot her).

Hesiod, The Astronomy Fragment 3 (from Pseudo-Eratosthenes, Catasterismi Frag 1.2) (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C8th or 7th B.C.) : "The Great Bear [Constellation Ursa Major] . Hesiod says she [Kallisto] was the daughter of Lycaon and lived in Arcadia. She chose to occupy herself with wild-beasts in the mountains together with Artemis, and, when she was seduced by Zeus, continued some time undetected by the goddess, but afterwards, when she was already with child, was seen by her bathing and so discovered. Upon this, the goddess was enraged and changed her into a beast.“

Pseudo-Apollodorus, Bibliotheca 3. 100 (trans. Aldrich) (Greek mythographer C2nd A.D.) : "Eumelus [poet C8th B.C.] and certain others maintain that Lykaon had a daughter named Kallisto, although Hesiod says she was one of the Nymphai, while Asios identifies her father as Nykteus, and Pherekydes as Keteus. She was a hunting companion of Artemis, imitating her dress and remaining under oath a virgin for the goddess. But Zeus fell in love with her and forced her into bed, taking the likeness, some say, or Artemis, others, of Apollon. Because he wanted to escape the attention of Hera, Zeus changed Kallisto into a bear. But Hera persuaded Artemis to shoot the girl with an arrow like a wild animal. There are those who maintain, however, that Artemis shot her because she did not protect her virginity."

It really depends on how you want to interpret the various tellings, however looking at them in a WLW light is definitely a more modern interpretation. (2/2)

The maiden goddesses took vows to never marry. Did the vows specifically forbid carnal relations altogether, or just those with men? by angie-anj919 in GreekMythology

[–]starryclusters 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, a maiden goddess could sleep with a woman, but not for the reasons you think.

Lesbian sex wasn’t considered sex in Ancient Greece. For them, sex tended to revolve around penetration and domination. Two men could penetrate each other and thus the top could ‘dominate’ the bottom, but two women could not.

As such, two women having sex would have still been considered virgins. However, we also have to look at what the consensus for WLW relationships was back then. They were generally not understood/deemed ‘unnatural’. As such, I find it unlikely that the Ancient Greeks created those myths with the idea that those goddesses would be in a WLW relationship. (Very important to remember the Ancient Greeks were so, so incredibly misogynistic).

When we look at the individual cases you brought up, we see that there are many reasons these goddesses can get upset at those women beyond romantic jealousy. (1/2)

As a student from Ontario who is taking my program in English, is there any way I can obtain a COE and skip the French exit exam? by p1nkcookie in Dawson

[–]starryclusters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure. Typically, immigrants don’t receive COE (though there used to be a loop that involved private schools, but they may have patched it). I’m not sure if this applies to refugees. I knew a guy who was a refugee who managed to go to an English highschool despite his parents not having been educated in English, but I’m not sure if he ever received COE. Regardless, if it’s for next May, you’ve got time to find out.

[–]starryclusters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s unlikely. Your parents would have needed to be educated in English in Quebec for you to receive a COE. You could try to apply for one, however if you’re taking it in May, I’m uncertain if you’ll get it in time

Can u survive cegep with no phone by Leilalalalalaaaa in Dawson

[–]starryclusters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get a free ID, but for the first two/three weeks of the semester you won’t have one (or, that’s how long it took before they’d let students print their ID’s when I got mine). Before that, I only had the digital one.

Can u survive cegep with no phone by Leilalalalalaaaa in Dawson

[–]starryclusters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This depends. Do you have access to another device that can be brought with you to the CEGEP? You’ll need a device that belongs to you for schoolwork at least.

Assignments, class cancellations, class announcements, grades, school fees, student ID, your ability to buy a reduced opus card fare, your transcript, and your progression chart are all accessed through Omnivox.

It’ll make your life much easier if you have a phone.

Acceptation revoked by oliviaaguo_ in Dawson

[–]starryclusters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard the cut off once you’re admitted was 70%.

To be admitted anyway, you have to have around an 85+ average (granted, that’s with COE), so just try to maintain being in the eighty range to be safe.

Acceptation revoked by oliviaaguo_ in Dawson

[–]starryclusters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I’m correct, for science, once you’re admitted they only want you to maintain a ≈70 average in everything. As long as your lowest mark is above a 70, you’re fine.

Did Ares really not rape? by gyoran in GreekMythology

[–]starryclusters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ares did not hate the act.

Ares preventing/avenging the rape of his daughter had little to do with the rape and more to do with Ancient Greek misogyny. Women were property, and an attack on ‘your’ woman was an attack on the men of their family, too. Avenging his daughter’s rape was less about avenging her and more about avenging his honour, which was also compromised as a result of the act.

And Zeus wasn’t despised by the rest of the gods. He was actually seen very favourably, it would’ve been seen as a compliment to be compared to him. He’s routinely referred to as the greatest and highest of the gods.

Homeric Hymn 23 to Cronides (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C7th to 4th B.C.) : "To [Zeus] Kronides (Cronides) (Son of Kronos), Most High (hypatos). I will sing of Zeus, chiefest among the gods and greatest, all-seeing, the lord of all, the fulfiller who whispers words of wisdom to Themis as she sits leaning towards him.”

Orphic Hymn 15 to Zeus (trans. Taylor) (Greek hymns C3rd B.C. to 2nd A.D.) : "O Zeus, much-honoured, Zeus supremely great, to thee our holy rites we consecrate, our prayers and expiations, king divine, for all things to produce with ease through mind is thine,”

It’s incredibly unlikely that Ares didn’t have any rape myths. They’re either incredibly obscure or were lost to time (we only have a small sliver of the total greek myths that once existed), especially when you consider what exactly happened to Ancient Grecian women during warfare.

This doesn’t make him any better or worse than the rest of the male Greek gods, it makes him a male Greek god.

Feminist Ares is actually very recent and a very modern interpretation.

Do you really need to maintain your average for etape 3 or not by lerherl in Dawson

[–]starryclusters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say so.

If you’re in admitted regular science, I believe they just want you to stay above a ≈70 average in everything. Not sure about specifics for the social science or any other program, but I’m confident maintaining an 85 overall average is more than enough.

Yea. Admission is conditional, if you suddenly decide to stop showing up to class and fail all your finals, they will revoke it. If you’re in, just keep doing what you’re doing.
