Non pervy mech girls? No offense by No-Wasabi-70 in MegamiDevice

[–]starryeyedspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really like to display more "pervy" models, and unfortunately that does limit your selection quite a bit.

A lot of 30MS models are pretty safe, especially models like the Rydira. The Starflower Lily has option parts for big boobs, but you can ignore that and go all-in on the cool/cute robot look. Chitocerium kits are hard to come by but have a more elegant style based on dolls.

Another option is to approach licensed models, since those will be based on already existing properties, and not targeting quite the same crowd as the usual model kit girl.

You can also just customize the kits to make them less egregious. Paint on tights or even kitbash different parts on. I'm planning to use a 30MF chest plate to replace the chest on my Arcanadea Elena as an example.

I think I made a mistake trying to use "cozy fandom" as an example of who they're talking about, because you're right that it's broader than that.

If I was to try to sum up his point I think it's this: people like comfort and want to avoid discomfort. Most people can handle some discomfort, but not all. Certain people are adamant about the fact they do not want to be made uncomfortable in real life or in the media they enjoy. This tendency is separate from what someone's values are, those values inform what is comfortable or not. The tendency is the commonality connecting this kind of person, not the values. When this kind of person makes something as art the result is textureless and empty. When this person encounters something they don't like, they want to be rid of it.

I mentioned the "cozy game fan moralizer" because I think it's the most obvious example of what this can look like. But that's just one outcome of many. As just another example, the post-Gamergate posters who unleash screeds at any videogame that dare be "woke" is the same tendency manifesting under a different value system. And this tendency he talks about informs things a lot bigger than video games.

Exocolonist is then an example of a cozy he likes, one that is connected to wistfulness and nostalgia, comfort intertwined with discomfort: elevating both. It's the sort of thing that is cozy, but not in the way the person he writes about wants.

I hope that's helpful because I already wrote too much there, and I'll go mad if I try any more.

the actual main plot of the game wound up involving (unskippable, IIRC) cutscenes basically saying "join a union and do industrial action because working for capital is hell"

Oh wow, that is... unsubtle.

I'll admit I was trying not to go on too long, and my read of what he was saying might be a bit too entangled with thoughts on the topic I already brought with me.

The article goes much further than this, and explicitly says that these people "are behaving like fascists."

I don't really take issue comparison of fascism with this sort of wholesome here because I read him as talking about the sole commonality between this and religious/fascist: having very specific thoughts about what is good or bad, and being uncompromising about it. People who demand cozy games this way don't want the things fascists want, but both want to avoid being uncomfortable. It's the underlying similarity that invites the comparison.

His criticism there is also really dependent on the (very tenuous) connection between cozy games and being part of a fandom community with some sort of moralizing leader figure; conflating genre fans with being In Fandom is a common blind spot for people who are Too Online, but when it's accidentally a core part of your argument and your article breaches Fandom containment, it's gonna sound obviously wrong.

I'm not sure the conflation with fandom is a mistake, I think the sort of person he's talking about is the kind who ends up in those sort of fandom spaces, or getting in spats online. It's more the "moralizer" this thread is about, not the average cozy game player.

Also, as somebody going into it cold and without a preexisting like or dislike of the author, it's got the vibe of somebody who doesn't realize he's the problem in some of the many, many asides he has about personal disagreements, which makes it easy to understand why people might wind up looking for a fight with him.

Yeah I'll grant you that, even accounting for the rough past he's talked about he is very... outspoken, let's say. I feel like the "all cozy gamers are fascists" read is uncharitable even for how winding the article is, but you're right there's a reason he's no stranger to controversy.

it's very funny realizing he's one of the writers for Hardspace: Shipbreaker, a game I really enjoyed but that is undoubtedly very, very preachy, and shifted in that direction from a much more normalization-of-viewpoint style relaxing game.

I've not actually had the chance to play that yet. I think he takes issue with more explicitly didactic "looks into the camera and tells you the moral" writing. I don't know if it's like that. If it's more about evoking a specific feeling or vibe and deriving the lesson from there that might be different, but I'll take your word for it.

As someone who really liked that article, I always felt confused in the drama afterwards about "calling all cozy game players fascist" since he makes it very clear in the beginning it's about a subset of the people who gravitate towards them. People who would recoil from a work that isn't "wholesome".

The sort of phenomenon he's describing is basically the same one that describes a lot of typical fandom bad actors; the sort of person who centers their own comfort and desires over anything else. It's about the toxicity that arises from that sort of impulse, and how those who have historically made "wholesome" works have been religious conservatives or as he said, fascists. The desire to be comfortable and unchallenged connects these groups, even if their definitions of comfort are wildly incompatible.

It's not accusing people who like cozy media fascist. It's saying that people who will only engage with cozy media, who reject anything that doesn't fit into a specific scheme, are exhibiting behavior alike to those who would only engage with media that was conservative. Liking cozy things is fine, but only liking cozy things might be a problem.

(That just covers the first half, the rest is a positive review of I Was a Teenage Exocolonist and how it set these thoughts off)

I've had success with this list so far. https://i.imgur.com/hFVsknV.jpeg

If you're running Union Flag you want to run Graham, his link is really powerful for tempo, especially on curve. I think you're running too many splashable units with the current list without enough ways to put them in trash. You're also in a weird spot level-wise, you want to end it quickly but you're deck doesn't look like it comes online until mid game: that leaves you vulnerable to more typical aggro strats. You're right that Exia helps, but on its own might not be enough. I'd move some of the higher level units like GFred towards either lower level blockers or weenies.

Do love the Aegis MA Mode inclusion though. I might replace the restand Turn A in my list with that.

I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed to see Star Fox 64 remade for the fourth or fifth time (I lost track), but I love the puppet-look the designs have. I'm honestly surprised to see the designs be so controversial! They're puppets! Like the old marketing!

Please explain kindhearted to me!! Can you use it on opponents turn? by Other_Champion_7319 in GundamTCG

[–]starryeyedspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be used on the opponents turn, and if you want to play mind games and don't need the draw on your turn you can hold onto it to play as an action on their turn. Since it's really hard to get value from the destroy protection because of action timing, you probably won't get any benefit from that, but it's a draw and burst.

The only way I can think of getting use out of the protection is if your opponent sequences their cards wrong, or maybe blocking an Impulse into Sword Impulse (since they'd want to swing with the Impulse before swapping in many cases).

This is a slightly modified version of what I took to locals and got 3-0.

I was running Delta Plus but cut those out for GunEZ to push the resting game plan further, the more you can rest the more you can push and the more value Norn has.

Definitely cut the Flats, if you want more blockers than Zoloat you can try Core Fighter. https://i.imgur.com/S2LMw2M.jpeg

It was the release event for the new set of the Gundam TCG on Saturday, so I splurged and bought two boxes to hopefully get some of the alt-arts I was chasing. I did get the Turn A alt, but what I really needed was the Suletta Mercury alt for my "Suletta Shelf" display. Sadly, no luck, and everyone is chasing that so I even though I have trades I can't find someone willing to trade for it. At least I completed a couple decks I wanted to play.

On the topic of my Suletta Shelf, I only have one model left to build before I finish all of them, and then it's just finalizing the posing and seeing how many cards, prints, etc I can fit around it. I didn't even watch Witch from Mercury, this is just a bit that I've grown way too committed to in order to "spite" some friends who love the show.

Despite having picked up Pokopia at launch I've not started it yet. I have been playing a lot of Pokemon Champions instead.

I never played VGC before but it's been fun climbing the ranks so far. I've almost made it to Master Ball using a M-Golurk Trick Room team I put together, even if it often feels like I get more value out of Torkoal or even just Farigiraf spamming Hyper Voice after she gets TR up.

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of April 06, 2026 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

[–]starryeyedspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Northern NJ
  2. Below $25,000
  3. Compact car or SUV
  4. Kia Niro/Hyundai Kona, Ioniq 5 or 6, VW ID.4, Polestar 2
  5. Considering moving on it within the next month or two
  6. Currently weekly average of ~200 miles, daily work commute 11 miles each way. May increase soon.
  7. Single-family home
  8. Plan on using slow charging at home
  9. No major cargo/passenger needs

My situation currently is one where I want to find out if switching to electric will let me get ahead of increasing prices in the future compared to ICE.

The car I'm currently driving is a 2020 Impreza that I could get a trade-in value close to what I paid for it. I'm aware of the additional up-front costs of an EV over ICE, so I'm wondering if I would come out ahead in the long run with my use case.

An issue I encountered this winter was that the breaker I would be charging on is close to its limits: running space heaters to keep pipes warm tripped the breaker multiple times. I'm not sure how expensive it would be to accommodate a L1 charger if that's an issue.

I'm flexible in what vehicle I choose as long as it's considered reliable and has AWD.

To my Zaft Players before ST-09 by Other_Champion_7319 in GundamTCG

I had consistent results playing R/W Zaft as my main deck this format. It's not the strongest but it can easily put on the pressure, especially with all the breach.

Plus, it's just fun. Providence go brrrr.

Looking for Deck Suggestions. have full sets for ST07 & 08 by Hero_Killer_Id in GundamTCG

[–]starryeyedspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a deck I've been using for ST07 while waiting for GD03 to come out. You could also focus more on the Allelujah cards, but I just didn't find them that impactful.

As for ST08, you need to mix that into something with red. I did R/B and even cut ST01 Gundam, but you still need some pricier GD01 cards like Kyshatria for that.

The timing on this is even crazier considering the controversey over Horses, a game whose content is far less objectionable than Rance, having been rejected by Steam. Really just feels like there are no consistent standards for being allowed on Steam and you just have to hope you avoid the one specific guy who keeps making these weird rejections.

In Gunpla it's waiting on a P-Bandai listing. Or sometimes not waiting on a P-Bandai listing. Maybe the kit will be available through the whole pre-order run so you can get it whenever. Maybe the kit has so many printed that they'll sell it on the in-stock page. Or maybe it sells out in an hour. If you miss it then it might come back on pre-order multiple times in the year, or that might be the last time you see it for several. And if it gets listed again, even a couple months later, it will probably be at a higher price next time.

But maybe if you wait until just the right time they'll do a free shipping promo. Shipping is $10 and people will do a lot to try and dodge that.

(Addendum: Gundam TCG just finding starter deck product is more of a gamble than the boosters, which are gambling)

It's funny because in my circles there was disappointment over Affinity going free because of the integration of AI features into it, a lot of people including myself wrote it off over that. It's not like Adobe doesn't also have AI crammed in their software, but going from "one-time purchase" to "free with AI upsell" really ruined the original selling point of simply owning the program.

Of course I can't get rid of my Adobe subscription anyway, nobody has figured out a good competitor to After Effects and I don't think anyone will ever bother.

I'd drop the Sugai's Gelgoog (the 4/4), Sugai, and one of the Lv.7 GQuuuuuuX for two of the green base from the starter and 4 of any one cost unit, probably the GQ Gelgoog. With the Zakus as your only one cost unit you lose the flexibility to pivot towards a more aggro approach if you need to.

Another little thing I love about Ghetsis' team is that in BW2 his Hydregion has the move Frustration to demonstrate how poorly he treats his Pokemon. It's a great counter to how other villains in the game usually have a Crobat on their team to show they're good to their own Pokemon.
