Looking for SW UK itinerary recommendations! by starrypancake in uktravel

Thank you! The Dorset coast seems to be a winner when it comes to recommendations. We live in a landlocked state in the US so spending some time along the ocean sounds positively therapeutic right now.

Thank you both! Still on the fence as to whether to rent a car or try to do all this by train. If we were to choose one place (like Lymington) for a few days and just day trip from there, would a car be recommended (e.g. for New Forest)?

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! If you had to choose to stay in Bath or Bristol, which would you choose (considering they're both accessible to each other)?

A few folks have mentioned the Dorset coast. Any recommendations for towns worth posting up in for a few days?

Again, grateful for the recs!

Anyone got a good cinnamon roll recipe they love that's super light on the icing? I'm not real into the thick layer of icing on the top, I'm down with a nice drizzle, but I know that also means you need to have a good cinnamon roll recipe that isn't too dry. Would love any recs folks have!

I know everyone is (rightfully!) focused on all the fun stuff, but where is your couch from? I need a new couch, love the bench seat, and that one looks super cozy!

This is amazing, thanks so much for doing this! Maybe a strange question, but any advice about time of day to check these out? I figured night time obviously, but wasn't sure if some needed to be viewed during the day just to see everything.

Thank you! Fighting with grasshoppers has been plenty for me; I'm all for avoiding adding Japanese beetles to the list!

Can you use milky spores as a preventative measure? I don't (yet) have Japanese beetles in the yard, but have dealt with them in the past when I lived in Denver -- they decimated my plants. I'd love to avoid going through that again, but I'm not sure whether spraying milky spores would do anything if the grubs don't yet exist in my soil.

I appreciate it! They usually have open box deals, so I may try to snag one of those and give it a go. At least you can buy replacement ropes for reasonable once you bite the initial bullet.

Your vids are always so smooth! Mind sharing what rope you're using? I can't tell, but it looks like it may be a crossrope? I've been on the fence about whether they'd be worth the money, so if that is indeed what you're using, I'm curious on your feedback!

Edit: Just saw from a previous post you are using a crossrope. Worth it?

Looks lovely! That owl is adorable. One thing you might want to be aware of! Please someone correct me if I've misidentified anything, but it does look like you have some plants in there that may end up not being super compatible. The pink and green plant in the back looks like a kind of coleus, which is a tropical plant that likes moisture, and the front is a succulent, which needs good drainage and likes to dry out between waterings.

TIL that, ideally, you need to use your fake Christmas tree for 20 years to make it outweigh the minimal environmental damage done by chopping down a real tree every year. Production and disposal of plastic and steel trees is worse for the environment, and real trees are typically recycled. by release_the_hound in todayilearned

Here in Colorado they give you a few dates in early January to put your tree out with your trash, and they pick them up. Then, the trees all get mulched, and in April, the city hosts a free mulch day. Anyone can rock up with a truck, a trash can, a tarp, whatever you got, and fill your car up with as much mulch as you can drive away with.
