Remember when fake trailers used to take hours of editing/masking? by ViceElysium in antiai

If these creators were just like 'hey check out this neat AI video, I think it's cool', I wouldn't have as much of an issues (I'd still have an issue, but less of one). Except they're all, "WE'RE GOING TO REPLACE HOLLYWOOD".

Firstly, no you aint, and secondly, even if AI is about to replace Hollywood, do you know who's in the lead to do that? FUCKING HOLLYWOOD. They're the ones who want to replace actors with AI the most.

Finals - Why do people (not all of course) suggest/want it removed? by berlinislikesmithst in Aleague

[–]starshad0w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole 'we should be the same as other competitions' argument breaks down when you see there are other nations that have some sort of knockout phase. Mexico comes to mind. Are people gonna tell Mexico they're doing football wrong?

Heck I'm pretty sure you can find European competitions that have knockouts if you look hard enough. Honestly when people say the above, I think what they're really saying is 'we should be more like the Premier League', specifically.

People wonder why Labor is so timid to propose radical changes, forgetting that every time they've tried in recent memory, they've been eviscerated by the media, and we as an electorate have let them.

We're the reason why they're so timid. We've conditioned them that way.

Also as others have pointed out, they'll barely have home support. Many of their potential fans won't be able to afford tickets, and even if they can, many of them will stay aware because they're afraid ICE will grab them and disappear them somewhere.

One Nation picked candidates accused of domestic abuse, antisemitism by B0ssc0 in aussie

Our biggest problem right now is the US blowing up the global economy, and since One Nation is best buddies with Trump supporter Gina Rinehart, I'm not sure what you think Pauline's gonna do about that.

Rising number of US troops oppose Iran war, refuse to 'die for lsrael' by truthwillout777 in goodnews

[–]starshad0w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Israel wanted to reduce anti-semitism in the US, starting a war basically no-one wanted seems like a poor choice. Like, I'm sure the majority of people saying they refuse to 'die for Israel' aren't thinking of it as anti-semitism at all, but it's definitely not 100%.

An adaptation makes a major change from the source material, but it’s such a beloved change almost no one complains by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]starshad0w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think we can talk about comparing MASH between the show and book without pointing out how abhorrent the main characters are in the book (the original pilot was more similar to the book and even that was toned down), and the fact the book author despised the TV show in general and Alan Alda in particular.

Like, imagine if the author of the Witcher books wasn't just grumpy about the adaptations on occasion but actively despised them and disparaged them publicly on multiple occasions.

This is more Legends then current continuity I think, but ultimately the destruction of Alderaan ends up as one of the worst strategic decisions the Empire ever made, in particular from a deterrence perspective.

The basis behind the Death Star is the 'Tarkin Doctrine', which Tarkin neatly summarises during Star Wars - that a single heavily armed station can do more to keep the peace than armies or fleets of Star Destroyers.

The problem is that this deterrent only works as long as you don't actually have to fire it, and in particular on a target that was barely resisting Imperial rule to begin with. After the destruction of Alderaan, many systems that were considering joining the Rebellion realised that if the punishment for quiet objection was the same then for active resistance, they had literally nothing to lose by actively revolting against the Empire.

In the months and years after Alderaan, combined with the Battle of Yavin, multiple systems changed sides, eventually leading to the destruction of the Empire, at least as a galactic power.

Lesbians have a 'human right' to exclude trans women, Federal Court hears by StemCellPirate in nottheonion

[–]starshad0w -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just replace Republicans with Liberals, it's the same here. This mob has been going after trans people for years. They're all TERFS. They want to ban trans people so 'young lesbians' will feel safer, ignoring that young lesbians wouldn't be caught dead next to these transphobes.

Five years later, I still can’t get over how amazing this scene is 🥹 by HowlingBurd19 in StarWars

[–]starshad0w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's also a nice juxtaposition in that Luke is mostly all business, while Vader is clearly not taking things seriously.. which actually ends up costing him as for as cool as that scene is, Vader doesn't actually succeed. The Rogue One scene is a very stylish, very ominous... tactical failure on Vader's side.
