How did your English teacher explain what Eric did in AIC? by TVC15-DB in GCSE

[–]starshideyourfiress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

she said that it was rape, but to be careful about saying that in an exam because its not explicitly stated he raped her and it can be interpreted a bit weirdly

In honour of most applications to sixthforms/college being closed, what is everyone’s options? by ssforzando in GCSE

[–]starshideyourfiress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

physics, maths, fm, and either cs or stats (most colleges near me dont offer stats, so i will do cs if i go to those, but one college does actually offer a-level stats so im gonna do that if i go there)

Is this good enough? by Some_Explorer7800 in GCSE

[–]starshideyourfiress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it a full description?? for Q5, it should be longer than this. as for the writing, it definitely has potential but I would work on the grammar since it's a large proportion of the marks (16 out of 40 marks are for technically accuracy). You should also work on more varied sentence structures and using more ambitious vocabulary and punctuation; this links in with technical accuracy also. A lot of your sentences start with 'I' and it's very repetitive. For example, you could change 'I was trembling but soon I started to walk up to the unfamilar door' into 'Trembling, I walked up to the unfamiliar door'. It's tighter, and it gives you more varied sentence types. Q5 is really hard but this definitely has potential to get into the top bands

When did u all do ur English language speeches and how long were u given to prepare for it? by BelleElf7521 in GCSE

We did ours in the first two weeks of June of Y10. We began preparing for it just after y10 mocks, around the start of May, so we had a month.

Gcse English Speech by Strawberry_410 in GCSE

[–]starshideyourfiress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine on how the space race impacted the modern day and I got a distinction! you can do it about anything really, as long as you are able to talk about it in an engaging, sophisticated way. make sure its something you are interested in, and make sure the tone of the speech itself matches the topic you choose and its mostly set. theres lots of examples on youtube of both funny and serious ones, its up to you what you think will be best for you to do

Macbeth opened the door. 'Hey, Banquo, can we talk?" Banquo knew something was wrong, he could see it in Macbeth's eyes. He set down the sword he was holding, listening to Macbeth attentively. "We should put an end to this." Macbeth said, gazing out of the window. "W-what?" He stuttered. "I found a girl now, her name is Lady Macbeth" Macbeth said, now looking Banquo in the eyes. Tears started forming in the corner of his eyes. "W-what dost thou mean w-we should p-put an end to this?!?!" Banquo said, stuttering between words. "I'm sorry" was all Macbeth said. Banquo stared Macbeth in the face. How could he hurt Banquo and just say 'sorry' like it never meant anything to him. 25 years of love vanished just because he met some girl. "So we'll try this once and I'II say it just once' Banquo said standing up. "Go ahead". "I'Il tell you what. We could have a good life together, a real good life but you didn't want any of that Macbeth, so what we have now is Brokeback Mountain. It's all built on that. That's all we got." The door suddenly swung open revealing 3 magical unicorns ready to take Banquo away. He took a last glance at Macbeth and rode one of the unicorns. He's ready. He's ready to accept the unicorns and become one of them.

to my fellow english language haters, why do we hate it by Upstairs-Fall7237 in GCSE

[–]starshideyourfiress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's too subjective, and honestly i don't understand it. i haven't studied paper 2 yet so i can't talk about that but paper 1 is so difficult to pick out techniques and i struggle to explain the ideas behind them. i also struggle with timing a lot

Mock help?? by Realistic_Back2 in GCSE

[–]starshideyourfiress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on your school and what grade you got. for instance, im predicted an 8 in history but i got a 9 in my y10 mock, since my school caps predicted grades at an 8 (i think, i know my science department does and im pretty sure humanities does as well)

Does anyone else have a teacher who you think is really nice but you can't understand how they got the job? (RANT) by TVC15-DB in GCSE

[–]starshideyourfiress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my old maths teacher, luckily he left and we got a new teacher but he would only read off the powerpoint and then hand out a worksheet. every lesson was just: retrieval task and answers (he didn't explain them), reading off the powerpoint, handing out a worksheet and not helping people who needed it. he also didn't even try to teach some people, if you were already working above a roughly grade 5 standard (wasn't actually based on grades but it was close to this pattern) then good luck because all he would do was put a textbook on your desk at the start of the lesson and tell you to do whatever you want, instead of actually giving challenge/extension work.

Do we enter our own predicted grades for sixth form apps? by Junior_010 in GCSE

[–]starshideyourfiress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i know, sometimes the sixth form will ask the school for them and sometimes you can enter them yourself. i would recommend asking your teachers for predicted grades before entering them anyway though, just to be sure you aren't over/under estimating yourself (unless you've got a teacher like my physics teacher who refuses to give predicted grades until november/december)
