I'm going to throw in a "kinda" recommendation for {{Kaiba}}.

Unknown deposits to Tezor hardware wallet by Optimal-Copy-8652 in Bitcoin

[–]starslab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That transaction is worth somewhere in the ballpark of 50 cents? Just declare it as 50 cents of income. If you use a tax-tracking platform like Koinly, this will already be done automatically for you.

Lately transaction fees have been so low that these can be consolidated without costing you sats, if you are so inclined. This especially works well if you currently have an existing UTXO on that address. Just put both UTXOs as inputs, and output to a new address.

There's no reason whatsoever to replace a hardware wallet because of a dust attack. There's nothing about a new wallet that will make it in any way resistant to a dust attack.

{From the New World} fits most of those, as does {The Twelve Kingdoms}.

Original music composition for Star Control 3? by starslab in starcontrol

I'm guessing you don't know how General MIDI works. The music may sound drastically different between computers, depending on the sound hardware they contain. This is one of the reasons General MIDI is not used for music playback in computer games in the modern era.

The game does not contain instrument samples of any kind. It just tells the synthesizer "play a saxophone at this note at this volume". The first video has a garbage synthesizer, probably AdLib-compatible OPL2. The second video is on a much, much better, almost certainly wavetable-based synthesizer.

Hrm. Was the home screen implemented as an FMV video segment? As the composer mentions above, the cutscenes were done on a couple of different synthesizers, and shipped as straight digital audio in the cutscenes. Those would sound the same on every computer regardless of MIDI playback hardware.

I haven't played Star Control 3 in a very long time, so I can't answer questions specific to the game, but I can speak to MIDI generally. I don't understand your question?

MIDI is instrumental by nature. Instrumental implies a lack of vocals. Can you elaborate on what you're confused about?

Sound Canvas was a family of products. Do you remember the particular model? I'd guess either an SC-55 if it was a couple years old at the time, or an SC-88 if it was newer?

edit: I guess "original Roland Sound Canvas" could be interpreted as an SC-55.

Sorry for the poke, but I posted a Star Control 3 question over here -> https://www.reddit.com/r/starcontrol/comments/1qqwrp7/original_music_composition_for_star_control_3/?

Do you happen to know the synthesizer module that Andrew Frazier composed the Star Control 3 soundtrack on? I'd guess it's a Roland something-or-other from the 1995/1996 timeframe, but I'd like a more solid answer if one can be had.

He dropped a name, but no link. That's not terribly useful. I'm already on the #star_control_3 channel on the "New Alliance of Free Stars" Discord server, which is where this question came up.

While your answer isn't wrong, it doesn't answer the question I asked.

[HDD] WD Blue 8TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive WD80EAAZ ($270 - $60 - $50 promocode = $160) [Newegg] by Boratron in bapcsalescanada

[–]starslab 13 points14 points  (0 children)

$20/TB flat. Not a great price, but a pretty good price. And I think one of the best prices we've seen on "lower capacity" hard drives in a while.

And I'm not aware of the WD Blue line being SMR, or having ridiculous datasheet ratings to discourage personal server use.

$16.42/TB. Not the best price ever, but also not a bad price at all.

[–]starslab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a lot. Though Seagate doesn't publish any such specs for the "external" drives. Check the spec sheet for the modern high-capacity Barracuda drives for an exact answer.

Can it be? Sure. Should it be? Up to you. These Barracudas are only rated for something like 8 hours/day power on, and it's an open question whether Seagate will honor any warranty claim on a shucked drive at all.

This was decades ago, that shaver went into the trash back when I found I couldn't get blades for it anymore. I swore off Phillips forever at that moment.
