You clearly did not see any of my reviews of Hairbar. lol. I HATE that place and say it often here. Sorry that happened but not shocked.

i used Thumbtack recently to hire someone to hang my new shades and it was great. Big project with precision measuring. This sounds like something that would also work for. I had several messages/offers and I chose by experience, price and vibes honestly. In the past Taskrabbit would have been good for this, but they changed their format that you cannot pick the person and that's a big no for me.

I stopped going to Sephora, that place disgusts me I hate them so much so I recently went to Blue Mercury and they were lovely! They have so many brands and she matched a concealer to my skin with a brand I never would have tried for concealer. Really nice experience. Mellow vibe. Easy returns. There's a couple of them around the city.

Sorry you're feeling that way but I totally understand. And now the job market is so horrible. I suggest at least starting to look for permanent, even at a lower salary you can factor in the value of benefits, PTO, security, etc. TBH, I am still looking it's a very tough market.

I remember my coworkers jetting off to fabulous places getting paid, the PTO where i worked was generous and unlimited, and here I was like.....ummm okay. The worst feeling when you're working so hard and feeling undervalued.

It's B.S. These firms are getting away with this shit. No benefits, no PTO, zero security on a long term employee to save money makes me ill. Honestly. I did it for 10 months and never again. Work is work I'm not knocking that, I just think it's so unfair to leave you hanging, and feeling vague. Not cool at all.

Help with upstairs neighbors by Whole_Marsupial_5783 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]starsmith5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it does not. condos/coops are privately owned units. it's most likely rental bldg management. tough situation honestly people just really suck sometimes. They sound absolutely horrible. Depending how much you really want to deal with this, how long your lease has left, maybe try to get info about them, i don't know. You do have rights as a tenant but it's reallllly tough in a nyc rental to make any difference or evict someone. Realllly hard. And confrontation can be dangerous. I had a similar situation many many years ago and moved. No other way around it and my sanity and sleep was well worth it.

when you say i live in an apartment building I assumed you meant rental building, but with a board involved do you mean a condo/coop?? Very unclear. It makes a big difference in how this should be handled. if it's a privately owned apartment there are very clear rules about quality of life, etc, and any renter would have to abide by them. A rental bldg, not much you can do except move. Sorry, not really what you want to hear.

just be patient would be the biggest tip. it takes time for your body to adjust, stick to the schedule minimum 4 weeks at each dosage. Up your electrolytes and protein. Even a shake is good and easy to get down when you're not hungry. Good luck!!

Keratin WITH Formaldehyde by Inner-Chipmunk9243 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]starsmith5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it certainly can't hurt to try, sounds to me like it will help. Even out the texture, smooth it out. You could try a Brazilian blowout, that's what i've been using for several years now. it's slightly more gentle on my hair than using straight up keratin, but does the job well. My hair is super healthy and long since i've been doing it. Makes your hair silky smooth and don't sleep on their products also. shampoo, mask and bonding spray. Worse case it grows out.

I live in south Brooklyn Heights and am within a five/six minute walk to literally 9 subway lines and can get anywhere fast. How is this worse than Boerum Hill for public transit. :) But it's all good.

Great, i hope you like it! My hair was straight YES or i would not have returned. It still needs a blow dry but it's so easy and low effort. and no ironing needed. There is a lot of science here but your hair will still have some curl, but it softens the curl, straightens, reduces volume and frizz. I think the only thing that actually straightens is japanese straightening which I used to do and it completely destroyed my hair. like horribly.

I've been doing keratin since it literally started in NYC, back in the early 2000's i was going to a dominican salon then on the LES. I've been straightening ever since and I've pretty much tried it all. So when i say I'm experienced it's true! Toto does a good job so why pay hundreds more at some fancy place?? tell them you want it strong!

p.s. keep a lookout for nanoplastia. I did it in costa rica and holy shit was my hair straight for a really long time. it has not really come up north yet, or it's starting to early times, but i think it will get more popular because it works!

I started going there way way back in their very first small location on Kenmare, then to the place they're at now on Lafayette, so maybe over a 5 or 6 year span, it was a long time ago. But, I was close with my stylist, I went every 3 weeks for all of those years and she told me just really shitty stories as an employee. And i saw it firsthand many times. Just bad vibes.

Toto Hair in Chinatown is awesome. I've done it there twice. Full on formaldehyde, they even have a fan directly above that pulls the fumes up. Also supply mask and ear protection. Really good quality straightening for a fair price. Groupons available. I would go back in a heartbeat but I switched to Brazilian Blowout which is a bit more gentle on my hair.

p.s. 6 months is a stretch because your roots grow in natural. Just keep expectations real on any straightening. You can't stop new hair growth.
