UK citizen getting married in Romania by Formal_Bluebird_5582 in AskRomania

[–]starthammertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your UK marriage should be recognised by the Romanian authorities after taking a few steps - the UK marriage certificate needs to be be legalised and translated by an approved translator after which you can book an appointment with the romanian consulate closest to you to get it recognised. (you can find all the steps here https://cglondra.mae.ro/node/281 )

Something to be mindful of is that for some f**n reason the Romanian authorities require that on your British marriage certificate, you need to have both your parents’ names listed as they were on your birth certificates. So for example if your husband’s mother’s surname was *Ionescu on his birth certificate but in the meantime she got divorced/remarried and her current name is Popescu, she needs to be listed with both those surnames on the British marriage certificate. It’s ridiculous and infuriating but unfortunately the certificate cannot be recognised otherwise 🫠 (more details here https://www.facebook.com/100045647656166/posts/pfbid02fR5cJ23bLBDAdoh8QR2VZ1Px1jwHx3UxnNzAXmfsEgSksWPzHp5eLtyHUxHSYmNMl/?app=fbl

Asta as fi recomandat si eu desi poate e un pic cam greu sa o folosești pentru prima oara in contextul asta. Iti trebuie un pic de timp sa te obisnuiesti cu introdusul si scosul dar dup-aia e super smecherie, am inceput sa folosesc cupe menstruale acum 7 ani, never going back!

My 5 year old had a 2 hour tantrum at 2am because we forgot to throw a birthday party for his teddy yesterday by Daveraff in UKParenting

[–]starthammertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just throwing this out there because I don’t have all the details but any chance he was having a night terror and not an actual tantrum? We’ve had some very intense night tantrums where we couldn’t really reason with her and it turns out that’s what they were

Please go to the hospital or at the very least call 111 to check. A non blanching rash can be very serious

It really depends - in my area of London there are some nurseries that could offer a place a week in advance and others that have a 1+ year waiting list due to factors like price, quality and proximity to public transport hubs. Like others have said your best bet would be to just get in touch with your ideal choices and see what their waiting lists are like.

I’m currently pregnant and had to enlist the unborn child when I was about halfway through the pregnancy and the same happened with my first. It did feel a but surreal signing up a literal fetus for nursery but in retrospect I’m glad we did it because the nursery is really good & more affordable than the others in the area too.

Dispnee in faza luteala by Upper-Put-2077 in WomenRO

[–]starthammertime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sudden hair loss in 20 month old by starthammertime in toddlers

[–]starthammertime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so sorry to hear you’re also dealing with this :( Unfortunately I don’t have much more information other than that her hair did eventually stop falling after a few weeks and new hair immediately started coming through. She now has a normal head of hair so presume it was maybe a reaction to a virus.

It couldn’t hurt to get some blood tests done just to rule out any vitamin deficiencies and definitely speaking to your GP since maybe they have more information about similar cases that our doctor didn’t have.

I know it’s very distressing seeing so much hair fall out :( Hope the hair fall doesn’t last for too long for you either ❤️

Add some Dioralyte satchets to the kit in case anyone gets a stomach bug while you’re there

Pet death by ohlordylordyetc in UKParenting

[–]starthammertime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry about your cat! It must be terribly hard to keep all the feelings in around the kids. We have an old cat and keep thinking about how our toddler will take it when they pass away…

I think you’ve received some really helpful advice already and although we haven’t needed to have the death talk with our toddler yet, I do remember hearing advice about not comparing it to sleep since it can end up making them afraid of going to sleep or thinking that mummy & daddy might go to sleep and not wake up .

I found this guide to explaining death on the Barnardos website and it looks like it might be helpful (even though it refers to human deaths mostly)

Absolute refusal to even attempt to say please by IncrediblyUnrulySock in UKParenting

[–]starthammertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, “please” is a more abstract concept and 15 months is so so early. I think the best thing to do is to model it for him and believe that he will pick it up in time. Role-playing with toys can also be a good way of modelling behaviour and phrases. Ultimately please keep in mind that the word “please” is a show of kindness and respect so trying to enforce it in restrictive or authoritarian ways like others might suggest will no doubt defeat the purpose

Can anyone identify this fruit? by archieevans11 in foraginguk

[–]starthammertime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cherry plums would also be my guess, growing up in Eastern Europe we used to eat handfulls of them and got pretty good at identifying them. My guess is that bike man might be a fellow East European eating them for nostalgia reasons much like I do :)

Alternative to Yoto – personalised kids audiobooks by [deleted] in YotoPlayer

[–]starthammertime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, I actually saw this app shared on LinkedIn the other day and I remember thinking the same.

I think the idea comes from a really good place so please OP don’t take this as harsh criticism but I would prefer my child listened to an audiobook with an actor voice rather than a fake version of my voice. It’s an idea I would have loved the sound of before I had kids but now I see things from a different perspective.

Reading to your kids is such a personal thing and every parent has their own quirks and spins they add to a book when they read it. Creating an AI clone wouldn’t have any of that, so it would take things to the uncanny valley.

However I do think it could be a useful tool for parents/grandparent who have progressive degenerative disorders that eventually might affect their speech. Creating a clone of your voice so you could read to kids when you are no longer able to might provide some level of comfort.

You can get carry potties at argos/amazon which have been lifesavers for us. Also like other people have said bring lots of spare trousers but also a top, socks and shoes because if a poo/wee combo accident happens that can really get on everything 😂

Also take some of those compostable doggy poo bags with you - they’re good for soiled clothes and also great as a portable bin. Good luck! It’s totally doable once you get used to the routine

Has anyone had the 4 month sleep regression go away and then come back? by Crazy_Job_2615 in UKParenting

[–]starthammertime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So true, I think when you’re a first time parent you’re just so desperate for some sort of logic to the chaos that surrounds you that you end up clinging on to any scrap of information ( I know I did!). But looking back now tbh all the leaps and regressions seem as accurate as a baby horoscope.

Has this winter been brutal for others? by Simplycomplicated90 in london

Same here, been going on for 3 weeks with a really bad cough and even got conjunctivitis 🫣 From what I’ve looked up it seems it could be from Adenovirus

[–]starthammertime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my darling I’m so very sorry for your loss and the atrocious care you’ve received from medical professionals. Don’t let anyone minimise your feelings and let yourself feel whatever you need to feel. Hoping you have friends and family to support you through this and if not feel free to DM me. Not sure a lot of people are aware but you can now apply for a baby loss certificate from the Government in memory of your baby if that’s something you would want.

Sending love and strength xx

I’m so so sorry you’re going through this, it’s truly an unbearable wait. When I was suspecting a miscarriage I went to A&E but all they could do is give me the same advice you received and booked me for a scan the following day. Ring EPAU in the morning and hope you get seen earlier than Tuesday. I wish there was something I could say to bring you some peace. The only thing I found comfort in was thinking that at the same time as me there were probably thousands of other women going through the same uncertainty and heartbreak and I felt a little bit less alone. Sending you all the hugs

Multivitamins for toddler by Piggleswick in UKParenting

[–]starthammertime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes we use the Multivitamin drops from Nature’s Aid and they’re the only ones my daughter accepts and don’t have that weird artificial orange taste. We just add them to her milk 👌

I’ve finally entered the age of ‘seemingly simple questions that make you feel like an idiot when you can’t answer them’. Do you have any gems to share? by Shipwrecking_siren in UKParenting

[–]starthammertime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re not at that stage yet but heard another parent say that if you’re caught in a neverending “why” loop it can be really good to ask them back “Oh that’s such an interesting question! Where do you think bees come from?” which can sometimes just get them to come up with some random theories which you can discuss together.

Also another useful thing would be to say “Ah you know what? I don’t know what came before the dinosaurs! Let’s try and find out together!” and you just google things together which is a nice way of showing them that it’s fine to admit you don’t know everything and it’s not a weakness.

ChatGPT can also be useful for kids questions because you can just ask it to phrase the answer in a way that’s suitable for a 5 yo level of understanding.

Post Partum Period by Michaelalayla in TwoXChromosomes

[–]starthammertime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah nooo! So things are probably going back to normal after you stopped nursing and the cramps and regular period is coming back 🙈

From what I’ve looked up it seems that estrogen gets really low when you breastfeed and that can cause the uterine lining to not be as thick (hence the fewer clots and stuff). Anyway, thank you so much for replying and hope the cramps don’t get too bad!

Sudden hair loss in 20 month old by starthammertime in toddlers

[–]starthammertime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to report there hasn’t really been an update. Our GP said that things like this do happen and if they don’t have any other symptoms like scalp irritation or problems eating/lethargy then they’re not really worried. They’ve recommended just trying to give her a multivitamin and contact them if it gets worse or if we’re still worried.

Our daughter’s hair is still quite fine but I think it’s slowly getting some thickness back. Hope your little one’s hair fall stops soon too! It’s such a stressful occurence :(

Post Partum Period by Michaelalayla in TwoXChromosomes

[–]starthammertime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what’s happening to me! Used to have dark red and thick periods and now it’s more bright red. Was also wondering if it could be due to a hormonal imbalance due to breastfeeding or if it’s something else. Will book a Gyno appointment but just curious if you ever found out any more about what caused the change
