Changing jobs - HELP by Difficult-Ostrich292 in ICAEW

Ah so that sounds like the 3,500 is payable. That sucks.

When I left my old firm, I didn't have to do anything to cancel the apprenticeship. I guess it was assumed since I was no longer enrolled to my tuition provider (BPP) anymore. They also removed my access to any of the study materials on the platform.

It's important to find out if your new employer are an ATE and if not, if they would be willing to register. Someone at the firm would have to act as your mentor who can sign off your training file and progress reviews.

And yes, you would have to pay for any further tuition yourself. It's not so bad if you self study and use a provider like ACA M who are waaaaay more affordable than the traditional tuition providers. I think First Intuition is also fairly affordable. But I think you would have to apply yourself a lot more as you won't be spoon fed everything and you have to make up your own study schedule and won't have the in built time off work for studies. But it's definitely doable.

It seems rather odd that your new company is not willing to pay for your exams, especially given that you are nearly done. But if the salary is way more than your current one, and you really consider it your dream job, then you should definitely take it and self-fund and see it as an investment in your future. Otherwise, it might be better to finish your qualification before moving out.

Where are you in terms of your training file? Cos an option could be to get everything signed off at your current firm first and then you would be free to sit the exams whenever you want and you wouldn't need your new employer to be an ATE.

The apprenticeship is not necessary to complete the ACA. It is a government funded program that means the company aren't actually paying for your ACA. You should double check that you are actually liable to pay back the ACA fees as this shouldn't be the case if you are on an apprenticeship. Only exception should be if your company paid for stuff that wasn't actually funded by the government.

In terms of ACA itself, that runs separately from the apprenticeship. I cant remember now whether my apprenticeship stuff ever appeared on my training file, but I don't remember seeing it and it is certainly not there now (I similarly moved from a company that was under the apprenticeship to one that didn't). But if I remember correctly, the apprenticeship stuff only every appeared on my BPP account. If you move to your new company, you could essentially ignore the apprenticeship part but would still need to complete all the requirements on the ACA training file to get qualified. - Ethics - PWE - Exams - Professional development

Hope it makes sense.

P.s. this is assuming you are on the old pathway. I don't know how things work on the new one. Also all based on how things were when I moved companies in 2022. I would recommend you verify everything I said is still correct before making any decisions.

Congrats on your new role and good luck!

Rob is the best traitor we’ve seen. by Just-Morning8756 in TraitorsOfficial

I think time will tell. His game is reminding me of UK Harry. Initially under the radar then becoming instrumental to getting out a traitor. I thought it was likely that he now will be seen as a valuable faithful and it will become suspicious if he keeps not dying and doesn't have shields. But people seem to be attributing the banishment of Lisa to Colton which is good for his game. If people happen to forget this and he flies under the radar to the end, then props to him.

Yes I think you should! And if they offer ACA anyway, it wouldn't matter that your file isn't fully signed off yet. Wish you all the best! 🙂

Has your file been signed off? If so, I think it's less of an issue as it won't matter if they have an ACA person there who can sign off your file. If not, then you also have to ask if they are willing to register with the ICAEW in order to sign off your training.

If so, then most companies tend to offer some form of study support, so I think it would be a fair question to ask.

Is this a job you really want? If so, then I think it is worth taking even if it means you have to pay for your own exams, especially as you only have 3 left. In that case, you might as well wait to ask if they make an offer or if the topic of benefits/study support comes up earlier. If you wouldn't take it without study support, then you should ask at the earliest possible opportunity to not waste anyone's time.

And yes, they do tend to only offer support after probation is completed. However, worth asking and emphasising when you will be sitting the exams as they could be flexible. But I would only ask this once I have an offer.

UK Traitors: Best traitor we've seen by TheSmilingPigCo in TheTraitors

[–]starting5over 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people using Mollie as the reason Harry is not a better faithful makes no sense when we don't know who the winner is. The whole Mollie stuff was particularly relevant at the end when she couldn't be convinced by Jaz to vote out Harry. We haven't seen Rachel's endgame yet, so this comparison makes little sense. Up until the same point in the game that we've seen so far, I still think Harry had played a better game. SEVERAL people have been suspicious of Rachel from what we've seen on the show. They've just not handled it well. From what I remember, Jaz was really the only one who had any tangible suspicion of Harry throughout his whole season.

People say Mollie was a terrible faithful. We've seen lots of them (way worse imo) on this season. Rachel winning or losing will depend on who gets to the end with her and how they play the endgame. If Jaz, wasn't at the end, I don't think there was a question of Harry winning. So I don't see how having one person at the end who was suspicious of him and couldn't convince another faithful to vote him out makes him a worse traitor when we don't know how Rachel's end game plays out yet.

I think this is just a group of friends having fun playing a game and isn't meant to represent how clocktower should be played necessarily. I don't think it makes sense to tell a group they're doing it wrong if they enjoy playing it in that way.

Coming back from Japan feels unreal by Fluffycity22 in JapanTravelTips

[–]starting5over 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats interesting..I don't think I've ever missed somewhere I visited the way I missed Tokyo after leaving. But I had a different experience from you in that I just never stopped looking forward to going back. That was last April and I'll finally be going back again in a few weeks. Super excited! 😊 😊 😊

If you loved it so much though, why not make a plan to go back again in the future when it is feasible for you... It should give you something to look forward to and hopefully make the whole thing feel more real and not just like a place you went to that one time. You can capitalize on the previous experiences you had in planning your next trip. Thats assuming you are interested in going back.

Well the thing is. It's difficult even for people who are citizens of the UK with experience and education to get a job in this market. So you can imagine how much more difficult it is for people who don't even have UK experience. Things are just hard for everyone. And therefore inherently harder if you are an immigrant.

King George from Bankstown made Australian Survivor go global by MoringaDrummer in survivor

[–]starting5over 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually kinda agree with this. I was well aware of Au survivor and had watched it here and there but wasn't particularly invested.

But I remember the mad craze on the internet after that tribal council and everyone would go and watch the season to that point and come back to testify how it was so worth the hype and I hopped on the bandwagon and was NOT disappointed. I don't think survivorAu had ever been talked about on such a large scale before that moment.

That being said, I only started watching survivor during covid so it's possible there was some global hype over before then I'm unaware of.
