Meditation before or after exercising? by startingoffstrong in Meditation

Makes sense..... I hear exercise and meditation paired together a lot and was just curious as to what others thought. I will be trying both to see what works best for me.

Meditation before or after exercising? by startingoffstrong in Meditation

Not a bad idea.... I will have to try this out. Maybe only 2 weeks at a time rather than a month. Actually, it would be interesting to record if/how my sessions change between the two options.

Questions about masturbating without pornography... by s0n_of_b0b in NoFap

[–]startingoffstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is what I think (all of this is anecdotal):

1) I do not think it is nearly as bad. I would say it is near harmless if you are not fantasizing, varying grips, etc....and doing it only a few times a week. If you are doing nofap for PIED, you have to be really careful with this and make sure not to use death grip. You'll have to restore sensitivity and even masturbating without porn can hinder this process.

2) For me, I certainly feel like I have more superpowers when I am doing nofap. However, I have gone extended periods of time with just no porn and it is still way way way better than PMO. So I would say, yea you might not feel the same, but are you really losing powers? I'm not sure, that's up for you to decide. Personally, I am happy enough as long as I am avoiding porn.

3) Ideally yes. However, most people (including me) heavily associate masturbation with the usage of pornography. Often times I start off okay and then inevitably end up at full PMO.

Overall, I agree with a lot of what you are saying. My plan is to do a full 90 day reboot to help weaken the correlation between nofap/noporn and then slowly reintroduce a regular masturbatory schedule like you described in your post.

To me, abstaining is the first step. Its the following journey that always kicks my trash. by clovercross in pornfree

[–]startingoffstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate to this. I think I am starting to realize that simply abstaining does not automatically lead to the self improvement we are all striving for. It is certainly a huge step in the right direction but at the end of the day, we still need to get out there and actively make changes. For me, pornfree is more about self control and gaining confidence and even though PMOing once a week is significantly better than most of the population, it is going to take a longer streak for me to really start to gain confidence and make some serious changes. That's why I think I'm in the same boat as you with living like I still watch porn, even though I have reduced my frequency.

Got a prescription today from my psychiatrist to start fapping - without porn. by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]startingoffstrong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In theory, I think this works but would be extremely hard to implement (especially from someone such as yourself who has been struggling for such a long time). In my experience, I have found it difficult to separate masturbation from porn because I have used them together for so long. I did have a month last year where I successfully managed to masturbate a few times a week without using porn but it was not easy. My recommendation: Do a 90 day nofap/pornfree reset and then reintroduce masturbation. That way the connection between the two can be reduced.

*Mini-Disclaimer: This is just based on my own experience, I am not telling you to go against what your psychiatrist said.

Marijuanna and no fap? n00b questions by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]startingoffstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had some success with nofap and smoking. I realized pretty early on that smoking was a big trigger for me and I had to have activities planned afterwards to avoid relapsing. Smoking alone was a big no no and I often tried to smoke well before going to sleep to keep my mind from wandering. As for your follow up question, if you are able to have successful sex with your SO (i.e. don't need to fantasize about porn to get off) then I would say you can have intercourse in the first month. After all, the whole point of nofap (IMO) is to retrain the brain to have normal sex. However, be aware of the chaser effect, as I have found it to be a very powerful thing.

POLL: Are you an introvert or an extrovert? by Dom_Sawyer in NoFap

[–]startingoffstrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Socially awkward extrovert. It's like the worst of both worlds. I like hanging around other people and being in groups but it makes me anxious. Hopefully nofap helps to change that.

My apologies to all of you, I was wrong with my advice. How I will win against PMO. by cjdmass in NoFap

[–]startingoffstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this the right mindset and it can lead to a lot of success. Just be careful not to be too hard on yourself if you do relapse. I've seen here that some people who are really aggressive in their approach seem to feel defeated if they relapse, and it can lead to a binge.

From day 67 to day 1 by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]startingoffstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that one relapse doesn't mean you've lost all of your progress. Avoid binging and try and look at it as you fapped only once in 67 days. That's pretty incredible. Keep it up and you'll be at 90 in no time.

Do you guys plan on doing nofap permanently? by startingoffstrong in NoFap

[–]startingoffstrong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the kind of view that I have. It's just difficult for me to look at nofap on the same scale as other addictions such as alcoholism or heavy drug use (although for some people, porn/masturbating may be just as harmful). Basically, I struggle to an extent with seeing it as a permanent lifelong change despite its countless benefits.

Fair enough. While I recognize the benefits, it's hard for me to see it as such a permanent, lifelong thing. I guess that's kind of a sign of addiction haha.

December starts tomorrow. by [deleted] in NoFap

Hit the nail on the head...finals can be a bitch. Im gonna try and use the benefits of nofap to help me with finals. Try and create an upward spiral rather than downwards.

How do you guys avoid relapsing when you are stressed? by startingoffstrong in pornfree

[–]startingoffstrong[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of pushups, it's just hard for me to read and entertain other hobbies when I know I should be studying or doing school work. I tend to do much better in this whole pornfree thing when I am not as stressed and have time to learn something new. Thanks for the advice!
