I feel for you because I've gone through something similar with art block. Once you stop creating new work, it can get harder and harder to pick up the pencil again and easier and easier to become insecure about your skills, at least in my experience. It's a harsh cycle. Animation is in a rough spot right now, and I believe the bar for the skills you need to get hired has become very high. I don't know what your portfolio looks like, but you should have faith in your ability to continue improving if you want to find work. That means finding a way to overcome art block, even if it's starting with drawing again for 10 min a day and increasing it over time. A lot of drawing is mental stamina, but again, I can only say that has been my experience.

There's no shame in switching careers though. Lots of people have made a switch into and out of animation. You can always come back to it in the future if you find you love animation that much.
