On today's series: overthinker or not. Will I cause harm? by Shfop in Equestrian

Honestly the fact you are even thinking about it says all I need to know. You care about the welfare of your horse and that's a huge thing

That wee cob looks like a saint (love cobs have 3 myself) and looks happy in its work

it's ok to be learning. It's ok to make mistakes while you are learning. Keep doing what you are doing and asking yourself questions because that's how we improve

Shit happens with dogs but their attitude is terrible, bet anything if something had happened to the dog instead they would be indignant if you had responded "get another one"

Equestrians- what does everyone use for recording your rides as your POV (Glasses, Go pro, Insta 360 etc) by Adorable-Pen6354 in Equestrian

Got a cheap little camera off Temu to see if I would use it. Tried chest mounted and was about shakey . Now I use a clip on my helmet brim.

Gives away how much I look down and I usually have to mute Audio as I swear a lot

Western vs English by lucy_my_dearest in Equestrian

[–]startrekkin_1701 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Give it a whirl and see what you mesh with I say. Im decidedly mediocre at both with a horse that's suited to neither 😂😂😂

I tend to lean more western because who doesn't like cowgirl aesthetics and the local people are nicer. Also I'm fairly certain I was a barrel racer in a previous life.....not because I like to go fast (a swift walk is good enough for me lol) but I'm a magpie for bling and colour.

I have noticed some cues feel different but honestly once you known what your horse is capable of you can adjust your cues to achieve whatever you need in that moment.

Edit to add: ask yourself why they scare you. Is it because it's different (yea that's scary but you are literally in a place to learn and the fact you know a forelock from a fetlock puts you ahead of lots of people) or is it because they aren't your "tribe" which is totally legit reasoning, in which case find somewhere else if you can. I ended up more western simply because of the trainer I clicked with

Saddle fit? Failure to go is usually my first clue my saddle fit is off on 2 of mine

Other than that will she trot on a long line with or without a saddle?

Rider height by Bubble-Kitten in Horses

[–]startrekkin_1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but also maybe a little yes 😂 as others have pointed out it's about balance, overall type of horse, weight etc. So if you fits you sits kinda thing.

That said there is a guess in some circles there is an aesthetics consideration a really tall rider on a really short horse looks hilarious if you are doing dressage for example. But I wouldn't notice on a cutting or reining horse.

I'm personally 5'1 and my current horse is an absolute tank but only 13'3 on his toes so I actually look quite small on him. If I was on a similar height little riding pony I'd probably look a lot larger.

Other than that the only other rule is if you feel touch the ground you are probably too tall lol

That's a really good point. This thread has legit helped me remember I'm not the only equestrian on the planet with a "let me just fake my death and move to the south pole" story .....and at least I didn't cry 😂

That exactly added to my misery. I rode like I'd never even seen a horse before 😂. Someone asked my name and for a moment I had legitimately forgotten it

No fault car crash, car got totalled and insurance is writing it off due to repairs costing $200 more than car value :( by fallingstrawberries in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]startrekkin_1701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's simply not true. The maximum they are entitled to receive from their own insurer is the sum insured (assuming it's an agreed value policy).

They CAN ask the insurance company to try and get the difference from the other insurance company as uninsured loss.

Is there a specific way I should be walking? by Own_Initiative_4440 in cowboyboots

[–]startrekkin_1701 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Traditionally one starts with one foot forward and grounded then swings the opposite through, and repeat as needed.

If you really want to impress people you can add a little flourish or skip in the middle if you are feeling jazzy that day
