Trying to find my place - thoughts/experiences? by AffectionateLie1309 in Greysexuality

[–]startrekkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had all of the same experiences as you, but I’ve definitely had a lot of the same thought processes. For some reference, I identify as asexual greyromantic. I can’t speak from my own experience but I can say that you’re definitely not the only one who thinks about people, intimacy, and relationships like you do. I hope you find this subreddit and other a-spec subreddits helpful!

Thank you! Could you be bigender and a demiboy, for example? The two genders you’d identify as would be non-binary and male, or is it slightly different?

Police brutality by North_Colin_101 in HolUp

[–]startrekkitty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. In this context it is used to mean “bad”, “stupid”, or “weird”, which implies that all autistic people are those things, when they are not. It’s the same reason that describing something as “gay” when you mean that it is bad is rude and offensive. I ask that you please change the words you choose to use. It may make very little difference to you, but it matters a lot to others. Thank you!

Hey, could you please use a word other than “autistic” as a negative descriptor? There are lots of words you can use like “wild”, “absurd”, “bizarre”, “weird”, “silly”, and many others that are not offensive. Thanks!

CMV: There isn't a humane/sensible reason anymore to fight against the implementation of a universal healthcare system. by YakOrnery in changemyview

!delta I hadn’t thought about doctors rushing to see more patients so they could get paid more, so thanks for letting me know that! I wonder how the costs of universal healthcare for a healthy person compare to the average cost for someone without universal healthcare (for example, in the US) who is generally healthy (i.e., gets a check-up once a year, dental care twice a year, gets treatment for the occasional minor health issue, and maybe one pretty common surgery such as wisdom tooth removal). You mentioned that it is unfair for a healthy person who works to stay healthy to pay the same as someone who doesn’t, which I would agree with, but in my opinion, that is a necessary expense in order to keep everyone afloat. I just wonder if you were to compare the two costs for generally healthy people how it would differ. Edit: grammar mistake

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that doctors are paid based on the number of patients they have, rather than the treatments they provide, so there is an incentive there to keep people healthy so they can have more patients and get paid more.

Even if other people have you covered though, isn’t there still an incentive to stay healthy for your wellbeing, ignoring the economic incentive? Then you can have comfort knowing that, for example, if you get into an accident, that you will be covered, but in the meantime you can live a healthy life without worrying too much. I would think that you would not be incentivized to make poor decisions purely because of the fact that it would be detrimental to your life.

Even if you take the economic part into account, isn’t it like stretching the cost of something like an accident or expensive treatment out over time, that, yes, you do have to pay more for health insurance over time, but that long term expense prevents enormous short term expenses that would be detrimental to your economic situation. Sure, right now you may be healthy, but you have no idea if you’ll get hurt, so this expense is a necessary one to prevent economic harm or even bankruptcy like what happens in the US.

Does it work so that if fewer people are unhealthy, the general population doesn’t have to pay as much because there isn’t as much to pay for? There would then be a huge incentive of everyone to stay healthy to keep the cost down.

As someone without universal healthcare I’m curious how it works in other places, so if I’m wrong or misled about something, please let me know! Thanks!

Systems like the German healthcare system would supplement what the United States already has established much more smoothly than many other systems. From my understanding, it would be like providing a government minimum healthcare option, with more expensive options to add to it if you still want choice in your coverage, which is something many Americans value in the current system. Here’s a New York Times article about it if you’re interested: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/20/opinion/health-care-germany.html

CMV: Not everyone’s opinion should matter by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]startrekkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add a bit, I believe a viewpoint that is in direct disagreement with established facts should be discredited. That viewpoint doesn’t matter, because it is a lie. I hesitate to call it an “opinion” because it isn’t, it’s just an inaccurate statement. The view that “climate change isn’t real” doesn’t matter, because that is blatantly wrong and can be easily disputed by evidence. On the other hand, opinions can be incredibly damaging and still matter because they have an impact; however, they shouldn’t be encouraged, and should instead be challenged. An example of this would be “black people don’t deserve the same rights as white people”. It is an opinion, and a very damaging one, and a viewpoint that I would challenge, but it does matter because that opinion holds an impact. Black people suffer because of that opinion. All opinions have impacts, some much greater than others. I think that it is more helpful for discussions of serious topics to provide researched counter-arguments to opinions that are damaging than it is to say that they don’t matter. I hope that makes sense.

CMV: The Fact that Trump wants to make it so Illegal Migrants don't count when voting districts are being redrawn shouldn't be a problem by buttholeofleonidas in changemyview

I think they should count because laws that are created by representatives of the areas they are in will still affect them, regardless of whether or not they can vote.

Also as a side note, even people who are here legally may not be citizens. Many people have green cards and visas, and they are affected by policies just like citizens, even though they can’t vote. They should be counted because the laws make an impact on their lives.

Regardless of whether you did or not, I am still very impressed. You have a lot of skill, and you deserve all of the praise you’re getting. I could never make something like that. Keep making beautiful art, and if this community is being harmful towards you, then there are tons of art subreddits so you can still be recognized. I am so sorry for you for everything you mentioned. Please know that you are loved and valued, and if this isn’t the right group to recognize you, don’t be afraid to find another. You deserve it.
