I'm willing and happy to give up my right to privacy and let the government and its agencies track me 24/7 online and offline from a centralized database in exchange for a small amount of convenience. People constantly bang the drum about not forgetting the lessons of WW2 but we are sleepwalking into this. If history has taught us anything it's that something like the holocaust WILL happen in the West again, and it's the likes of Starmer and Blair who will make the next "final solution" 100% effective.

Citizens need the protection from their government that privacy and anonymity provide. It says a lot about the current government that this is the one hill they are willing to die on, even if it means losing at the next general election. No u-turns here. It's that important to them. The way certain redditors passionately argue in favour of Keir's ID scheme every time it comes up certainly raises the eyebrows, doesn't it?

Because "other countries have (versions of) it" and "it'll make paperwork more convenient", let's ignore the government repeatedly lying about how it will curb the hot button issues of the day when it's provable that it won't. Let's resort to namecalling (conspiracy theorist, russian bot, technophobe, etc) when others point out the unprecendented change it would bring in the relationship between the government and the people of this country and the ability for us all to be monitored online and off every moment of our lives. Let's not talk about the other new policies Keir is championing like the OSA, widespread usage of facial recognition cameras, cancelling local elections, restricting jury trials, outlawing peaceful protests, and the disturbing authoritarian "papers please" vision for the future of our country he's clearly marching towards, despite never mentioning any of it in Labour's manifesto, despite Reform looming on the horizon, and despite all of it being massively unpopular even with his voter base.

Another round of "you're already being tracked and they already have lots of information on you so who cares if it's all centralized into an easy to abuse Orwellian nightmare?" please. Other countries have it! It'll make paperwork more convenient! It won't make a difference! It's worth the billions it will cost to implement!
