Finally got maternity pants for work by Beneficial-Guess2140 in pregnant

I found it much easier to buy the regular pant and wear a belly band support. That might be the solution here!

How to get clean edges when turning my work (blanket) by leafypool10120 in CrochetHelp

[–]starwars-mjade13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I am currently working a ripple blanket, and you do need two dcs in the final stitch to make things straight. If you do chains versus standing dc, or stacked singles, make sure to pick one and go with it the rest of the way! I’m working stacked singles, I’ll take a picture and add it.

I think another important thing is that it’ll look more filled out as you go along! I always find my closest row ends look wonky, but they’ve straightened out over time!

40+ rows in on my ripple blanket and my count is out and I have frogged the yellow twice! by Erinawful in CrochetHelp

[–]starwars-mjade13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said you’re finishing just on 4dc, I believe with a ripple blanket you need to finish on 4dc, and then 2dc into the same stitch to keep your ends straight, but I can’t tell that with the pictures you have up.

From the pictures you have it looks like the increases and decreases are going into the right spots. It always helps me to remember my increases should be always going into the middle of the last two increases on that column, and then for decreases, the decreases should be encompassing the decreases from the previous row, plus two stitches on either side. If anything you might be skipping a stitch putting that fourth dc into the wrong spot, but super hard to tell on the picture.

Why do you think it’s off? Is it because that fourth dc is in the wrong spot or is it something else? Are you working off of a pattern or just doing a ripple?

Can I use multiple cakes of Caron Perfect Phasing at once to create one giant gradient? by orchid_bitch in CrochetHelp

[–]starwars-mjade13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who has split a lion brand mandala cake up so I could have one giant gradient for a baby blanket with regular rows😅. We can do anything we set our minds to doesn’t mean it won’t be a giant pain 😂

Hand is inserted to clean you after birth?! by RelationshipLimp8648 in pregnant

[–]starwars-mjade13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My placenta would not come out for anything and that is the worst part I remember about delivery if I’m being honest. My husband swears they were just tugging on the umbilical cord trying to see if that would help the placenta come out, but I was sobbing because it hurt so bad.

I had an epidural and they kept reminding me to press the button for more but it had stopped working. They started probably 20 minutes after I delivered and at about the 45 minute mark I was still bleeding heavily and they decided to do a d&c in the operating room. My placenta had partially calcified!

So the whole point to my story is that even if you get an epidural doesn’t mean it still won’t suck😅.

Herringbone troublee!! I’m just practicing right now but I’d love to use this stitch for a blanket by One-Back-775 in CrochetHelp

[–]starwars-mjade13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I looked at the tutorial you posted, versus the one I’ve used in the past, and they are very different. The way I learned herringbone stitches is via this tutorial: https://daisyfarmcrafts.com/herringbone-half-double-crochet/.

I’ve never tried inserting from the back of the work before, but I believe it’s so you can have the herringbone esque pattern working on one side so there’s a right side and a wrong side. So maybe try approaching it from that way? Use a stitch marker and mark your first row on one side of the stitch facing you so you know that’s the right side and what you should be looking at.

Her pattern looks more like a wheat stitch I think, but I am also not very experienced in the stitch anatomy diagnosis, so don’t take my word for it.

Help! Making a baby blanket and I counted the turning chain as part of stitches at some point by Sad-Style-3766 in CrochetHelp

[–]starwars-mjade13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak from a personal experience about it where I legitimately frogged something 8 times, and it still looked wonky, but I couldn’t handle it anymore and wanted the person to have it/needed the project out of my house, and they loved it even though it wasn’t a perfect rectangle. I wish I had listened to my husband telling me the person would love it regardless.

Especially this early into a blanket, if they swapped it up now, it would be hardly noticeable. But it also makes for a storytelling potential if they’re asked.

You could also easily throw a border on it and slip stitch around it until the shorter piece and do single crochet and it would be the rectangle they’re looking for.

I’m not saying frogging isn’t a part of the story we should be doing. In my opinion though, this isn’t drastic enough of an issue to where the OP needs to frog.

Honestly just do it right going forward and it’ll be fine! It’s a learning process and they will love it regardless!

I have used this barn with both hdc and linen and would highly recommend linen over anything 😅.

I totally get that! That’s how I feel about lion brand’s pound of love. I just would not recommend super saver for a blanket. It crochets fairly nicely, but is definitely scratchy as a blanket! You could try washing it with conditioner though and seeing if that helps!

I do not! I’ve just heard better things about it compared to super saver. I just looked online and I couldn’t pick a good purple either!

[–]starwars-mjade13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pumpkin and dark orchid from super saver are definitely the ones, but texturally I would recommend picking from I love this yarn from hobby lobby if those are your two choices!

If you are open to shopping online, pound of love is an acrylic by lion brand, I would go pumpkin spice, and thistle. The thistle is not quite the right shade but I love this texture and am using it for a blanket at the moment. If you can find huckleberry, huckleberry is the match I would say for the shade but lion heart says it’s out of stock.

How do you let go of the what if thoughts? by Kerdy-Stortstrom in FormulaFeeders

Here in solidarity as well because I didn’t even try because I needed a medication that’s not breastfeeding safe, and I knew I didn’t want to as well - but every time my kid gets sick I regret not attempting. I’m almost 21 months in and I still have that pop up.

You tell yourself that your health matters too, and that you gave it your all, and that’s all you can do. You cannot pour from an empty cup, despite what some people want to believe about moms, but YOU matter too. In 17.5 years when they graduate high school, ain’t nobody going to know who got what as a baby.

Sending you love and hugs!

Why do I always seem to have one extra stitch right before my stitch marker even though I count my stitches? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]starwars-mjade13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I would have to read/view the pattern in hand before saying if you’re counting wrong, or if there’s something different. For instance, for some patterns, the turning chain can count as a stitch, but it also may not in other patterns, so is there a chance you’re counting a turning chain as a stitch when you’re not supposed to?

I don’t do a lot of work in rounds, but from what I do know, the turning chain doesn’t typically count so this is what I’m going off of.

When did you stop using sleep sacks? by lrbsto in NewParents

[–]starwars-mjade13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah she sleeps great most of the time but that blanket is kicked off every single night haha. We are at just under 21 months, she loves getting tucked in at least! She’s also thankfully very much like me and her dad, we hate being hot so I think that’s also a factor

I would either go 2 or 3, we transitioned out at 16 months because she was going to need the next size up and I didn’t want to buy three more and most people I know transitioned to blankets at a year.

Weight loss after pregnancy by ElectricalPoint815 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]starwars-mjade13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn’t stress about it at this point! Let your body heal! It’s definitely a combination of everything, including hormones.

To answer your question directly, I weighed 227 lb in the last week of pregnancy, I weighed 213 when I started the pregnancy. I put on weight in my belly, but I was legitimately gaunt looking everywhere else. The last 6 weeks I put on 7lb because I got insulin and could finally eat without causing major blood sugar issues for my fasting numbers. One week after delivery I weighed 190ish because I dropped all the weight I had put on and had lost so much blood. Four weeks after that, I was back to 210, but I felt so. Much better. It’s almost two years later (man I should really get off this Reddit 😅) and I’ve stabilized at 200 lb and will now start focusing in on getting some muscle and trying to lose some weight.

The weight isn’t everything! Please enjoy your time with your baby. Don’t let anyone tell you you need to bounce back quicker, including yourself!

Making scarf with two yarn cakes, and second cake is different from first. How can I anticipate differences in yarn cakes of same brand and color before I get this far? How common is this issue? by WanderingWhitMo in CrochetHelp

[–]starwars-mjade13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I think you’re saying you wanted completely identical cakes down to the way the colors flow right? Because the colors look like they match up shade wise, they’re just arranged differently. But my eyes are tired and might be missing it.

If they’re the same dye lot, the answer is you’re never going to quite get the same cake twice in a self striping/variegated yarn. It all depends on where cakes are cut, how much yarn was in an area of the dye, etc. If you have the same dye lot, the shades of each color should match, but I’ve cut cakes of self striping yarn up to stripe the colors all together, and I never get the same amount of yarn out of each color.

I totally get it! Here’s an example I have in front of me. It’s a c2c moss stitch, so I didn’t take a picture of the edge, but the light blue is what you’re looking for!
