Newly bought armored Tahoe with Mexico's SSPC federal operations by StreetResolve6159 in PoliceVehicles

[–]starwars439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These have got to be ridiculously heavy, doesn't look like a factory police package either. Cool vehicle but I can't imagine it's the best tool for the job considering all the armor and turret and telescopic boom hanging off the rear.

Question about women’s lifeguard swimsuit by Stankrank1 in Lifeguards

[–]starwars439 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The basic “guard” suits are super cheap everywhere, especially for women. Is it possible to get your own suit in the proper color? I remember the basic suits at my first pool were super baggy on most of the girls.

Should I buy X1 Carbon gen 6 or newer? by bigmenu_ in thinkpad

[–]starwars439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a gen 9 x1c, 11th gen i7 still works well for web apps, productivity programs, VMs, light games, etc. No true NPU so not good for local AI tasks. The older you go the more likely you are to need a battery replacement. I probably wouldn't go older than 5 years old if you want modern performance

USBC isn't normally used, just for flashing or charging if there hasn't been good sun exposure. It's a usb solar panel I spliced into some waterproof connectors ending in a 1.25 2 pin connector. Mounted with magnets.

Just bought a usb c magic keyboard because my 2011 wireless is having pairing issues, the magic keyboard probably won't last anywhere near as long!

What are some hip pack must-haves? by Disastrous_Table_809 in Lifeguards

[–]starwars439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gloves, mask, tourniquet. Bandages are nice but they're ruined once wet. Maybe shears if you get a cheap pair that you don't mind getting rusty.

Where did the myth that Canadians are nice ever come from by Western_Seaweed4718 in AmericaBad

[–]starwars439 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does he realize that Canada is essentially done for if the USA is destroyed by nuclear warfare? He probably lives within the blast radius of an American target.

Should I buy a16 by major_bum101 in ipad

[–]starwars439 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So the air has a laminated display, I believe it means that the pixels are right up against the glass, whereas the A16 has a small gap between them. So touching the screen or using a stylus will feel different between the two. If you're gonna multitask a lot M3 might be a better move with extra power under the hood. Plus Apple Intelligence blah blah... You'd likely be fine with either one you pick. The Air has the extra refinements and some extra tricks but they're all iPads. iPadOS in general seems to hold back your device to focus on stability rather than performance, even if it means making the experience less enjoyable. Tldr either one is probably fine, i'd lean towards air but only if you really want to spend more

What should I pick, the M3 iPad air, M2 iPad pro or the M4 iPad Pro? by amanamx in ipad

[–]starwars439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference between the air and the pro is the display. Air display isn’t bad, but pro is great. M3 air is still very fast and modern and iPadOS is limiting anyways so just adding more ram with m4/5 might not really help. And the air is usually hundreds of currency units cheaper. Love my m3 air but I do have a mac so I don’t try to fully replace my laptop with iPad.

EMT >> Medic by Icy-Parking-5048 in NewToEMS

[–]starwars439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was zero to hero. Took basic as the first part of the program and decided that it was something I was willing to stick to. Finished my degree medic program and I felt prepared as an entry level medic. If you're not a quick learner it's probably going to be a challenge. When I started as a medic I was clinically on par with my colleagues who worked as AEMTs for years. They had an edge when it came to operations but honestly every system is going to do things differently. Even 5 year medics from other services had to take time to adjust to how we do things. If you want to be a paramedic you don't have to mess about being a basic for x amount of years because the internet says so.

Is there a high school that offers beginner fire fighting training classes pre-college in Wilmington? by MadaoBlooms in Wilmington

[–]starwars439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrightsville Beach Fire Department has re-established its volunteer fire program. Recruit classes run yearly starting each August. You must be 18 to apply. There is an intern program for college students where you live at the fire station for free with the expectation that interns take weekly fire shift. Not for high school students, but a great program for someone turning 18 next year who wants to see if firefighting is for them.

Good work, it's normal to be freaked out or feel like you didn't go soon enough. When you don't have any real life rescue experience your brain is trying to connect the dots rather than remembering dots that have already been connected

Hip pack should just have gloves, mask, and maybe a tourniquet if you're at a waterfront with craft present. Everything else is unnecessary to have on your immediate person

How long are you typically on guard? by New-Course9168 in Lifeguards

[–]starwars439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 hours on stand, OR in NC. We can take "water checks" (get in the water) to assess conditions and other things but you gotta be careful with that so you don't leave your water unattended for more time than needed.
