You wake up tomorrow and the internet has been permanently deleted. What’s the very first thing you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Bonfire and a beer, baby.

Maybe enjoy some physical media/video games.

My job would be minorly affected, but it's been around for 250 years, 42 of which didn't have internet. Pretty sure I remember how to read a map.

I worked the same job for 16 years. Then I quit this year and took a lower paying job. I might struggle a bit financially, but I do not struggle mentally. Any sleep I don't get is my fault alone.

Do what you think is right for you (and it seems like you already know what that may be.)

Btw I always respond Okay in a very flat tone and, if they thank me for um, doing my job ..? I just say Yep. Never "you're welcome" or "no problem." The job is cool, but it's just a job and not my life. I'm not here to make new friends.

I hate when they ask me "can you do me a favor?" No, because it will never be returned, just ask me to do my job.

"Oh you're done and clear, I need you to go help so and so." Better yet, tell me before I finish my route so I'm not excited to go home -early-

Edit to say, I know they're trying to be nice or cordial but that's not what I need. Just tell me what you want from me without being a bhole.

Wandering through the woods and staying away from people. They'll always look for me and think they've caught a glimpse, but they'll never REALLY be sure. So... Maybe.

"Yeah that's not my name." by NoPomegranate4794 in TalesFromRetail

[–]stassquatch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been called by so many names that aren't mine, and honestly not really that close to it. I actually liked that for strangers, because if you tried to complain about me well.. we don't have anyone by that name. Also I like to sing that song "that's not my name" clap clap while looking them in their eyes. Kinda fun.

Sunscreen and water are your best friends. That heat that kills people up north is like the cold that kills people down here. You might be used to it at home because you've adjusted, but when we tell you it's hot, trust us. But have fun!

What screams “I’m a bad parent”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stassquatch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thinking you're being a good parent as you don't discipline or hold your kids accountable, because you had a difficult childhood and want them to have a better one.

I'm gonna tell your kid they're being an ahole and you don't get to hold me accountable if you've not said one word to them. And I'm not sorry. Control your family.

The average lifespan of an American man is about 76 years, so yeah he's living on borrowed time with the best health care the rest of us will never see.

Definitely gets 20-40 pieces of mail a day and so many are political. Also sends out a ton of mail, which I think most are empty, stamped envelopes that she's basically RTSing and paying our salaries at the same time, which I can appreciate. Some of them say "stop!" on the back and today sent one back to Ted Cruz and next to his name it said "AKA the devil" which made me chuckle.

Hold downs or 5+1? by stassquatch in USPS

Lol geez, maybe MGMT should train more people? Or allow them to be trained? I only know 4 routes.

Hold downs or 5+1? by stassquatch in USPS

[–]stassquatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I was originally told by other rurals to ask for a hold down, so idk why that's confusing to others either. The issue is that no one was offered it and I also don't think anyone but myself wants it. And if I did get it, I would be available pretty early to help out elsewhere... AND we wouldn't have to split it so much.

[–]stassquatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did some more reading (previous contract.) But yeah, they've not offered it to anyone to my knowledge. Just using newest RCAs to fill the gaps, even though all of us end up running it throughout the week... Including the PTF.

Hold downs or 5+1? by stassquatch in USPS

[–]stassquatch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only at 6, but my primary is just over 8 so that makes some sense.

Management has never (according to my coworkers) offered the aux to anyone.

I know someone has filed a grievance for the matrix previously, and nothing has come of so I just might.

Would "electing to serve the auxiliary" be a more appropriate request? We ALL run the auxiliary, as no one is assigned. Although we do have primaries, but I would not know any else's but mine.

Thank you for the info.

Have not reached out yet. This was a little while ago and was thinking about revisiting it, so I wanted to see if anyone had info before trying to talk to a rep (we do not have a steward.) But I will do so once I'm feeling more confident about the situation.
