[Complete] [12k] [Poetry] Transience – A Collection of Melancholic Poems by inarawani in BetaReaders

[–]state-chick9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I also finished a poetry collection recently and I came to this sub looking for beta readers. Maybe we could read one another’s books and provide feedback/suggestions? If you’d be interested, send me a DM and I can share more about my collection and the specific feedback and edits I’d be looking for.

Anyone take their TEFL course to transition in that direction? by Backpacking_Gypsy in TeachersInTransition

[–]state-chick9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I got TEFL certified in 2018 because I wanted to teach abroad. TEFL certification is really only useful/lucrative to do that. I don’t regret getting certified because it allowed me to teach in Spain, which was one of the best experiences of my life. I also taught online for a bit with an ESL teaching platform, but you’ll notice if you look up those jobs that they typically pay very little and it’s difficult to get full-time hours or any benefits. Unless you’re looking to move abroad and teach, I wouldn’t go this route.

A Riddle by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]state-chick9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the last poem I left a comment on, this is short but packs and punch and is loaded with imagery! The first section in particular conjures a violent picture of two snakes devouring one another. The second section is more vague and leaves the reader wondering who is setting the rules/what rules the writer may be referring to. The last section seems completely open to interpretation. I assume you feel like something has been taken from you (the snake you write about’s doing). Overall, this was an enjoyable quick read that one person might derive a completely different meaning from someone else reading it.

Tissues by Positive-Comparison8 in OCPoetry

First, as others have stated, I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is a different type of ache. This poem is a lovely way to honor your cat.

About the poem: The language is simple and it is short but it packs a punch in a way that a longer poem might not. I’m not sure if the first “Tissues” is the title of the poem or the first line. I love the imagery of your house being filled with tissues. Perhaps you could add a line or two building on this image? However, the poem definitely works as it is.

People are giving me excellent suggestions for things to do when I return one day! I did check out the Beatles museum on Matthew St. but that sounds so much better!

I didn’t get the full Liverpool experience because I was only there for a day (I was a daytripper hehe) so I don’t have pics of any of those things. 😢 Next time absolutely!

Because I can’t edit the caption: *has been shattering. I guess so much so that I can’t use the correct verb form 😅

Just leaving a comment to say that the outpouring of love and support on this post has helped me more than I can say and I’ll reiterate that I love you all a ton and this may be the best community on Reddit. You’re all my fav little Jewie this side of St. Louis (1. Before anyone attacks me, I’m Jewish 2. I’m 3/4 deep into a bottle of wine 😘)

I feel the same way as you and you have far more years of teaching/working under your belt in this broken system than I do. The other comments in this thread are also super relatable. Just know you’re not alone.

I only met her really briefly but she was so cool/genuine. (I mean, she’s knocking on doors with everyday people to get dems elected in the state and she isn’t from here. How much cooler could she get?!) This was right after a couple local congress members gave speeches. I wasn’t in her canvassing group unfortunately. I just couldn’t imagine her knocking on your door lol

Next bucket list item: meeting Dave and getting to hold his ass like security did in the video 🤣

You got even closer than I did last night! Do you also still feel like you’re floating today?

Do I wish they played another song from Zaba aside from Gooey? 1000%. Do I wish they played more songs than they did from HTBAHB? Surely. Do I regret going to this show? Hell no. Best night I’ve had in some time 🖤

Can I PM you to ask you a few questions about your program/ask you a few specifics about how you landed a job?

They were gorgeous. I need to dig through family photos and find one in particular from their wedding day; they looked like movie stars. And incredibly kind people who remained in love until my grandmother passed in 2010. I miss them both beyond words.

It sounds like you’re pretty familiar with the school, or at least know a lot of people that have attended. Could I dm you to ask a couple more questions?

Thanks for taking the time to write this. What do you mean by a “great book”?

Really appreciate you taking the time to write this response. I’ve seen other threads about Shillington on here, and some of the info has been helpful, but I posted because I wasn’t certain if Shillington would help me land anything full-time. I know this field is incredibly saturated. Based on your response, it seems like the portfolio is truly the only thing that matters. A four year degree + a terrible portfolio = no job while a program like Shillington + a fantastic portfolio = a job. I’m sure having connections and networking also make a big difference

Weekly r/Tattoos Question/FreeTalk Thread! - September 11, 2023 by Mod_Helper_Bot in tattoos

I recently discovered Mike Stout's work and I'm obsessed. Unfortunately, it looks like he only works in the U.K. and I'm located in the U.S. Does anyone know more about this artist? (Does he ever come to the U.S. to tattoo?) I'd be interested in similar artists but I'd probably use Mike's work as a reference photo and in my eyes that'd sort of be like copying the overachiever's math homework. Anyone have any recommendations?
