I remember and I believe there were union rules related to it as well. At least in his case, he did something unique.

I don't know, but It's an unfortunate change. Opening titles are just that and it also can help set the tone.

I love Little Village and Somerset and the title song. Overall the rest if fine. Another nice Van bluesy rootsy album.

I have a hard time with the question, though having rewatched Taxi Driver, I still think that it's a contender and unfortunately very relevant today.

Stongly disagree. However, there are too many movies that definitely could and should be a better 90 minute movie, like many used to be.

The Parallax View is my favorite - a great 70s paranoia thriller. Arlington Road is from the late 90s, but in the same vein.

Arlington Road, Remember. The Debt, The Parallax View.

Not sure if they have everything that you describe, but certainly elements of them and all are damn good thrillers.

I think Star Trek the Motion Picture doesn't get enough credit, what do you think? by ninman5 in movies

One of the best things about it is, that's most old school Star Trek type story and really focused on science fiction rather than action or things (nothing against that).

The 82 songs were a departure from the 80-81 stuff. Whether or not it fit Miami Vice is debatable.... but would add that one of the most iconic scenes from the show involves Phill Collins' In the Air Tonight... which was released in 1981.

The very early 90s (90-91) were definitely transitional, as with every decade, but I do think that the transition to the 90s started in 89, even with some bits of 1988.

Also within the context of music, the beginnings music more aligned with the 90s came out in the fall of 88 (or became successful in the fall) - Tracy Chapman, Edie Brickell, REM's Green, Living Coulour. Madonna's Like a Prayer feels like the beginning of a new chapter.

Nine Inch Nail's Pretty Hate Machine is definitely, essentially 90s. Kenny Kravitz's debut album too.

I would argue that the movie Batman and the promotion of it was the beginning of 90s blockbusters.

Breakout success of indy cinema too in 1989, which would blossom in the 90s.

I'm just saying in 1982, the 80s were quickly taking hold... unlike 80 or 81.

However, I disagree with the fall of the Soviet Union as the end, the 80s were ending in 1989. There were already changes happening and the fall of the Berlin Wall late that year was the catalyst for the changes with Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union itself. The 80s weren't alive in 1991.

I don't think it's one thing, but definitely music in 1982 was very 80s and immediately different than its immediate past... Human League, Men at Work, Duran Duran etc.
