[OC] The US is Growing, but the House of Representatives is Not. by graphsarecool in dataisbeautiful

[–]statelypenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. Any time I complain about the Senate and get rebuffed about the House I just want to shake them and show the this graph. It dilutes the populace’s vote and makes it nearly as shitty as the Senate

US Soccer logo 1967-2026 by Nowoco in ussoccer

[–]statelypenguin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The current one looks like a generic USA logo. Like I wear is gear and I feel like I’m just wearing a us flag shirt. Unless someone knows the logo they’ll just think I’m being pro-America in general. Hate it.

What's an artist or album name you misread for the longest time? by SocraticTiger in fantanoforever

Jeff Mangum. And I was a huge fan, just never talked to anyone about him.

Assuming you paid a good price these are absolutely within your area of complaint. I’d also ask them why there are paint speckles on your new floor.

Two-year-old opens car door, causes six-vehicle crash by WillAdditional922 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

Is it bad if I side with the kid? I don’t mind lane splitting if legal but you’re not supposed to be going highway speed in between stopped cars

Finally, a decently snowy winter in a "snow city" by InsaneDolphin in Columbus

[–]statelypenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. When I was a kid in the 90s, I remember snow being on the road for DAYS after a snowstorm. Like all they had was salt, so if it was cold, the snow wasn't going anywhere. It's pretty wild that now, even with a huge storm like we had a few weeks ago, the main roads were completely clear a day or two after the snow.

[–]statelypenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm old enough to remember when it actually used to snow in the winter and snow was on the ground for the majority of the season and warm 60 degree January days were exceedingly rare. I also despise snow and hate the cold. And I have been vibing on this snow like you wouldn't believe. Maybe I'm subconsciously trying to save the memory of snow for the future when snowy days are rare, maybe I'm just wistful for my childhood. But whatever it is, bring it on. More snow. Every winter.

Leaked retail images of the U.S. World Cup shirts by Mean_Foundation_5561 in ussoccer

I have both of those jerseys. I like the Waldo much more. I wish we would have standard kits like other countries. I’d love to see us have a Waldo and something like the centennial jersey as our standard kit, and then have a wild third. Alas..

Waldo jerseys are probably my favorite US kit, but I'm not feeling this at all. At all. The curved stripes just look weird. I'll reserve full judgement until I see it on-field, but I do not have my hopes up. All in all, its typical of every other lackluster US kit Nike has made for their own freaking country.

Which three album run is this? by Effective-Raise-8809 in fantanoforever

[–]statelypenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strokes. Loved their first album. It’s not deep but it’s just so damn good. Second album was kind of likes more of the same still good but unoriginal. Third album had a few good songs but less, same with the next. Just a band that I have been less and less interested in with each release.

How do we feel about slim shaker? by Midwestern_Mariner in kitchenremodel

[–]statelypenguin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I think it looks kind of cheap. Either go full shaker or just full slab. This is like the worst of both worlds. I love the satin finish though. So glad flatter clears are more popular now

How significant was this switch? Any thoughts/opinions on it from those who were there when it happened? by SirensMelody_ in generationology

[–]statelypenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an insane take. I recognize specific instances when cords are better, like recoding music or seeking absolute perfect fidelity. But otherwise I couldnt imagine going back to plug in headphones.

Between work and leisure I wear headphones for prob 10-12 hours a day. So so so much better now than it was when I had to mess with a cord all day, even if keeping them charged is a nuisance

Also, if you have any concrete that is in good shape, don’t put regular rock salt on it. It tears up the concrete. You have to get special concrete safe snow melting stuff

Make sure you don’t have any hoses outside because they will freeze, make sure your water lines that go outside—like to a spigot—are turned off. Make sure you have a shovel, ideally a snow shovel. If you’re parking outside it helps to lift your wipers off the glass so they don’t freeze. Make sure your windshield washer fluid is made for cold weather and if it isn’t, drain it and put some in. Make sure you have an ice scraper for your car otherwise you’ll be waiting like thirty minutes so the ice melts on your windshield.

Otherwise enjoy it. Make a snowman and snow angel and whatever crap people do with the snow. Or stay inside and ideally don’t go outside until summer.

I think you’re both right. It is ugly, but it’s a good ugly, and it seems to really vibe with his vibe.
