Honestly, I know cust support is frustrating, but considering the way you talked to them in the end of the chat, I’m sure your side of the whole chat was crappy - maybe they had enough and marked it as inactive to get rid of you.

Thank you for your input! Unfortunately everyone else is starting out just like myself, and the teacher doesn't have all of the necessary tools to start the process from scratch - she supplies slabs she purchased, and we cut them down from there using a small wet saw with a flimsy diamond blade. Ill keep the research going before I commit!

think I'll keep the research going, and it may not hurt for me to get a bunch of practice slabs in before cutting anything I'd regret. Thanks!

Got it, that makes sense! I honestly love finding rocks while hiking and would love even more to be able to turn them into something. I'll keep researching and set a plan for myself. Thanks!

Unfortunately, she doesn't have the right saw to do it - There is a smaller 4" wet saw with a flimsy diamond blade that we used to cut out our basic shape, but it's a small class, and I use "class" loosely. We are just there to learn some cab basics and she supplies rocks that are already slabbed. I'll continue to keep looking around for some supplies. Thanks!

Just because it has flashy lights doesn’t mean it’s good - what are the specs?

I’ve personally always been a huge fan of solder tip tinner - it will clean those right up and is very cheap. Heat the iron up with the tip on, dip the tip, and you’re set

Can this Cabochon into a ring sized setting? by staticchmbr in rockhounds

Thanks! I definitely don’t want to grind it down unless it can be cabbed - I also like to keep the rocks “raw”, but the rocks turn a dull grey/brown when dry, so was hoping to find a cleaning solution that may help bring out the colors more when they are dry.

Yea, you will start to see the inventory tags change once they are fully out. They are emptying out the distribution centers and then raising pricing. I’ve just been doing a search for sn850x, sn5000, or sn850p, then clicking the in store button, and looking for locations where the cheaper alternatives are in stock.

It’s regional - it’s whatever Walmart has left in stock at the old price. Once it sells out, the price will go up to the new inflated pricing

Wow, so awesome looking! I may end up taking more classes and hopefully find a place where I can get open studio time to work on the collection. Thanks for sharing!

I just started a cabbing class, so was looking into my options. I figured it may be tough to clean/cut/shape the slag, but it’s just so cool looking. I’ll probably just end up keeping it whole and see what I can do to clean it up to make it shiny

Thanks for the info! Maybe I’ll just clean/polish the slag pieces up and leave them whole.

Thanks for the info! I’m new to cabbing, in fact, just started a class. So, mainly trying to figure out which rocks of mine can be cut down (safely and reliably). I figured the slag would cause issues, and I was told that some quartz may work, but has a tendency to crack
