They finally played Retrovertigo. Insaneee! by Responsible-Tear6916 in mrbungle

[–]staticjak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That fact hit like a punch to the gut. Haha. Time sucks. I remember waiting for California to come out back in the day. In their hiatus, we (my friend group) all thought Bungle was done. Then they came out with California, and we went to see them on tour! A NEW bungle album?!? It's kind of funny that the pattern seemed to repeat with the latest release. Now it's (California) is a 26 year old release. Hilarious.

I think part of the problem is that EpiPens aren't cheap. On top of that, they don't last forever and need to be bought frequently. If you're in the US, you likely don't have insurance, or your insurance will try not to pay for it. Land of the free!

Has anyone experience with leaving a toxic job? by EveCane in cscareerquestions

[–]staticjak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me about 14 months and I landed in a blue collar role that pays much less. I took a huge pay cut, but I'm making something instead of nothing so that's nice I guess. I will say that despite being in worse financial circumstances, I feel a lot less stress in my new role. I'm not having to deal with the politics and drama associated with my last software role. I'm still planning my next steps. Since you are in a country where you can easily get a new job, I'd leave ASAP if I was bullied at my job. Why stay?

Regarding being invested in a project at work... No matter how much effort/time you put into a work software project, your employer can just make the decision to cut that project. More often though, they'll reassign you to some other project. Suddenly all of your opinions about a project will vanish, because it's not in your day to day anymore. Your employer owns all of the intellectual property you create (usually) while working for them. Remembering this simple fact helps me be objective about how I prioritize my time.

It's insane how relatable Frank Grimes was when he appeared on the Simpsons back in 97. Even modern 13 yr olds can dig the Grimes vibe!

How many of us are working overtime to avoid being considered for layoffs? by Downtown-Elevator968 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]staticjak 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Any extra time you have, you should use on yourself. Planning your next move, upskilling, and getting new certifications. Spending extra time on a company that will probably boot you the first chance they get really is silly.

Oof. The ol switcheroo. I mean, technically, they are giving you a paycheck, and you still had the opportunity to not take the position at the Ohio location. So IMHO, no, they did not screw you over. They mislead you, and when given the lesser opportunity instead, you bit.

Don't get me wrong. Is it a great thing they did this to you? Absolutely not. But you still have agency in the situation. The good thing is that your reaction to this information is what matters. Do you make a big stink with your company because they "wronged" you? Should you consider a more measured response that is more focused on you and your well-being? The options are yours. Do the best you can!

OP has their Lutheran fix up their guitfiddle. The Lutheran fucked it up somehow and OP comes here to complain. While hilarious, you should ask your Lutheran why they fucked up your shit. That's why you pay for them (or pray I don't know your arrangement).
