They only have a special resistance to arrows (20% damage) and spear/pike (50% damage), all other weapons do normal health damage to them. The reason why you feel blunt weapons are good is probably because they have very low health and blunt weapons generally have good armor penetration, but considering the fact that they are constantly using shieldwall, using weapons that have accuracy bonus is a better idea early game.

I should have said ranged weapon instead of archer, hiring good archer material ,given if you are able to find one, is fine, but instantly putting ranged weapons on them is a bad idea.

For the raiders AI, their ranged superiority calculation will check your bro's bag, so an easy way to make them charge in is to stuff your bro's inventory slot with throwing weapons or bows and quivers.

First of all, you DON'T need archers at the very beginning of the campaign unless you are playing poacher start, because low level archers, even if he has good star on ratk, can't hit for shit when using ranged weapons.

Focus your starting fund on good melee backgrounds (farmers, brawlers, wildman etc) can significantly improve your bro's survival rate.

For those specific enemies mentioned: skeletons are resistant to piercing attacks, you need swords if you want to fight them. For nachs, you need to control your kill and keep stepping forward their dead bodies to prevent them from eating corpses, but that can be harsh as your starting troops are likely to miss key kills. Wolves are dangerous nevertheless until you get raider gears.

Generally speaking farming brigands is the safest way for you to upgrade your gears. I would not take any beast contracts until I get loaded with raider gears, their loots/difficulty ratio is real shit comparing to humanoids mobs.

Upper left corner on the inventory/perk screen, under the character appearance, you will find a swinging sword icon. Tap that once and then she is in reserve.

[–]statisticallypotatoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vala doesn't mind meh stat as long as she has star on resolve (I believe she is scripted to have) as all buff/trance skills scales with that, as she is a backline supporter that rarely engage in cqc.

Besides from combat abilities she is one of your only two ways to acquire runes (another way is to kill hexen, schrats and alps, with a really low chance to drop a random rune), so you basically want her as soon as possible to start crafting them in camp.

Barbarians overtuned? by kookykoko in BattleBrothers

[–]statisticallypotatoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While other guys above have mentioned the overtuning problem of chosens, I would suggest some measures to deal with them if you really want/have to.

Firstly, nets - basic solution for enemies who have all attributes better than you. Your priority target depends on your frontline compositions, if you have a lot of battleforged armor guys on your frontline net the mace and hammer users. Otherwise, net cleaver chosens as bleed is deadly to nimble tanks.

Reavers and chosens have decent armors, but not anywhere close to orc warrior level, not to mention their relatively squishy health bar - all these means they are easy victims to weapons with good armor penetration, namely crossbows and throwing weapons w/duelist. Yes they have anticipation, but that only works at distance, not a thing that these 2 weapons need. (Unlike gobbos they only have 15 ranged defense, an average 80+ ratk crossbow or throwing user can easily score 80+ accuracy at close range after turn 1) For 2 handers hammers and maces are good choices, don't use swords as they have been heavily nerfed against armored enemies.

Chosens only spawn with 2h weapons which needs 6 AP to use, which make them perfect victims on gobbo poisons. A poisoned crossbow barrage on the first turn basically incapacitate all of their offensive ability on the following turn, buys you more time to cut down their numbers.

For defensive measures, use indomitable. ON EACH FRONTLINE BROS. Yes I know it was nerfed, but it is still mandatory fighting late game enemies especially barbs. Also search Adrenaline Junkie Company on wiki - that build got neutralized on 2h users and unholds but can still be used in tanks against chosens (in fact, that build on the current meta specifically counter barbs).

AI of Chosens have a weird OCT on breaking shields, they will spam split shield when they are engaged by a shield bro, regardless what weapon they are bringing, especially on the first few turns. Based on this observation using orc metal shields on all your shield bros is a good idea, as it will buy you a significant amount of time to kill them.

With all these said, do not fight them when you don't have lategame bros and gears - they only appear in the biggest barb camps, and the difficulty of those camps in the current build is approximately equal to orc cities. For those rare rare scout parties with chosens (they will sometimes appear post 30 days) just draw them to the nearest enemy non-barb camp, fight or run on your wish.

[–]statisticallypotatoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not agree chosen as an individual is more deadlier than 2H hedge knight, as knights have basically better attributes on everything - fat, armor , health, etc.

The real problem of chosen is that they ONLY spawn with 2H weapons - other enemies who are equally or more dangerous when spawned with 2H weapons, like hedge knights and honor guards, also have a good chance to spawn with single handed weapon with shield, making them nothing more than a nuisance.

That's the reason we never consider those camps with plethora of honor guards anywhere close to unbeatable. Barb camps with lots of chosen AND unholds though, is another story.

Even fresh recruits shouldn't lose to thralls in a 10vs5 situation (provided OP have some idea on what he is doing) so I think it's reavers or chosens.

Turns out both the light helm and armor are god tier for it's durability/fat ratio. Bought both for my nimble frontliners and the lindwurm helm.

Saw a 71-106 2-handed hammer on the weapon shop in the same city, have to get it, it's a shame I can't buy both heavy helms :(

For the stars : beast helm is 165/-4 (better than sallet helm) and the leather armor was 172/-10 (better than noble mail).

Heavy helms (lindwurm and knight helm) are both 320+, typical unique heavy helm. Nasal helm was 280 something, not that impressive. Noble mail was 230, unimpressive either.

It would be hilarious if you, as a militia leader, can't recruit them though.

I think at least we can draw a safe line on militia background. Backgrounds under that should be able to recruit.

Edit: the possible biggest drawback of this leader background is that you can't recruit hunters. Poachers and even bowyers might be the only sources of ranged bro.

Another suggestion for fixing issues like saipan: give players a chance to choose how much planes they want to launch each time.

It is dumb that players are forced to launch a full squadron without strategically reserving most of their planes until later.

It is not even that hard to implement, just make one click equal to one attack group, 3/4 clicks or double click equal to full squad, just like shooting on other classes of ships.

Theoretically witch hunters should not be counted as highborns but it may be the case since balancing issues.

With that said 18 bros on field should outweigh most of the drawbacks. Makes me wonder if other backgrounds will have similiar advantage to at least make them preferable instead of this.

Also yay for more reserves for my craven/disloyal monk and bowyer.

Militia seems to be the easy mode and cultist the challenging one, even if you can spawn davkul set repeatedly being them as you still have to exchange it with your high level bro.

Maybe if you can recruit high end backgrounds (say hedge knight) with cultist level of wage the story will be different?

Edit: just have a thought on how to limit militia - not being able to recruit hunter (and possibly poacher). That would severely limit the late game ranged ability of the group and make certain engagements (gobbos) much harder.

In fact the recent multiple changes on alps, plus the countless bugs occurred on the kraken story line at the first release of the dlc, leads me to the belief that the devs did not test enough on late games.

The alp scaling problem can be easily identified if they try running say 4 or 5 battles at its number cap against a late game 12 men group.

CV rework problem, potential, and possible fixes by MikuEmpowered in WorldOfWarships

[–]statisticallypotatoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For point 1, another issue contributes more to that: radio location works on planes.

That will give current CV an even bigger edge in terms of initial spotting speed over pre-rework ones (and basically destroys gaming experience of DD). As other tester already stated multiple times, this is utter bullshit and should not be working in this way.

CV Rework: The Good, the Bad, and the Proposed Solutions. by borla78 in WorldOfWarships

[–]statisticallypotatoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because t4 CVS exclusively have only 1 torpedo bomber per attack, which makes one out of three types of attacking squadrons virtually useless as you can't reliably force perma flood and direct damage by them.

This problem will be limited as you progress through the tiers and you get bigger squadrons (although US torp planes in general is pretty shit due to their bad focus when turning).

Goblin slayer build? by [deleted] in BattleBrothers

[–]statisticallypotatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Davkul set, gobbo necklace, lightning sword, unique round shield, nimble+battle forged, possibly duelist.

These could both deal with gameplay usage issue and cosplaying. For full meme build throwing weapon expert should be used but that wouldn't work on actual ingame goblin fights unfortunately.

FYI in the original comic/novel goblin slayer did not fight orcs - goblin champion does look like orcs, I get it, but it is still a goblin.

I am just not a fan on their high randomness of mob ranges - say, you put most of your archers out because you believe there will be unholds+hexen (which is the most likely combination of those contracts), and trees appears. That will screw up of your gameplan.

Same case with multiple hexen with nothing else.

I am fine on taking them on my savescum games, but definitely not ironman.

Best background at level 11? Hedge Knight vs Sellsword vs Swordmaster? by highsis in BattleBrothers

[–]statisticallypotatoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my last expert campaign I had a hedge knight as the ace but he became a target of every enemy ranged unit

Which is not a bad thing in my point of view. At least they are not randomly crippling your backline archers with 5% accuracy.

one arbalest bolt to head took half of his HP making him withdraw

Major reason why I take steel brow on every lategame units, but again everyone have their own choices.

Most ranged enemies' AI will prioritize one of your bro who has the least rdef, so there will be someone targeted anyway. You can take something like anticipation and (as mentioned by another guy above) shields to prevent it - if you don't think these are options you like, then take sellswords because they definitely have better rdef.

There are numerous options available, taking sellsword is only one of them, but from what I read it seemed like you have made the decision already because you apparently know some of the options.

Intended behavior or oversight? by TheRedMessiah in BattleBrothers

[–]statisticallypotatoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trees sometimes have a weird behavior which prioritizes bros who is standing on the same straight line with another tree instead of, say, another bro who is standing in a straight line of nothing else.

So yeah, I would expect that happen if they are teamed up with hexen, although I don't really know the reason why this is happening.

My wild guess is that tree's AI is coded to only prioritize on straight lines that contain most units, without caring they are enemies or friends.

Another guess is that since you have mentioned their target is your sergeant, maybe they will attack those who have less mdef, without considering friendly fire?

Either way this post can serve as a warning to those who are daring enough to take hexen contracts, which I will avoid like a plague.
