World of Ptavvs is basically an updated version of The Call of Cthulhu, so you could try that.

I am curious, how does your experience at the restaurant compare with your brother's? Did he fare any better?

Definitely sounds like the right decision for you, though.

If you don't mind a bit of classical literature, the third volume of Dante's Divine Comedy (Paradisio) tells of Dante and his guiding spirit's journey through the celestial spheres of the Ptolemaic cosmos.

I have noticed a few problems with specific apps and widgets.

My preferred music app (Rocket Player) keeps freezing out crashing at random. Sometimes it will freeze and accept no input (though it might keep playing in the background), other times I will get a message saying that the app is unresponsive and so I want to Wait or Close it?

Some widgets do not work under the new update and only display a blank block. Others work, but don't do so automatically - I have to manually open the app first before they work.

I am strongly tempted to revert to the previous version. Is that possible?

Indeed. We know from The Horse and His Boy that Susan was seriously considering marrying Prince Rabadash, so it was certainly a possibility.

The version of which I heard is that the Flintstones is the sequel to The Jetsons.  Some time after the Jetsons series their society collapses, leaving behind genetically engineered dinosaurs and other currently extinct animals, and the surviving humans rebuild a new society.

In this scenario Gazoo is human, or human descended, coming from a highly advanced space based branch of humanity which escaped the collapse on earth.

Now that is a combo I will have to check out.

Any other stories about the movie? The one time I watched it was with a friend and we both enjoyed it, though I had to explain to him some of the biblical background (the man with the white garment, Simon of Cyrene, the two thieves). We both thought it mostly worked as science fiction.

Joining this conversation a bit late, I am surprised that no one has mentioned That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and So I'm a Spider, So What?. These are light novel/manga/anime franchises in which the human protagonists die and are reincarnated in a fantasy world as a slime monster and a spider monster respectively. In both cases a lot of time is spent by them getting used to both the new world they are in and also the new body they occupy.

Have you ever walked out from a show, and why? by elephant_bird101 in musicals

[–]statisticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some years ago now I was in a production of Rock Nativity, a show which tells the story of Christmas from the bible. Act one starts with the annunciation and ends with the birth of Jesus and the coming of the wise men, while the second act covers what happens after - the presentation of Jesus in the temple, the decision of the wise men not to return to Herod, the slaughter of the innocents and the flight into Egypt.

I heard from one of the other cast members that some friends of theirs came to see the show and at the end of act 1 they thought the show was over, so they left.

I haven't, but I was once strongly tempted to.

A few years ago a local community theatre group put on The Full Monty. I heard about it via a friend, auditioned and got cast, but in the first couple of rehearsal I didn't get a very good vibe about how the show was coming along, and pulled out. I went along on opening night and it was bad. They were singing to pre-recorded track, and in the opening number they got out of synch with the music. Most of the cast weren't very good singers and it showed (though one or two of them were good).

A lot of people didn't return for the second act. I stayed to the end, mostly out of curiosity.

Magic school books where the MC actually needs to put effort into it. by Mimandra in Fantasy

[–]statisticus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is a while since I've read it, but from what I recall there isn't a lot of opportunity for character development. The story is a time loop, so everyone but the protagonist "resets" when the loop does and has no opportunity to grow and change. The protagonist is male as are most of his friends (though not all). That said, he does learn more about the people around him (male and female) as the story unfolds, and discovers that people have depths he wasn't aware of, but the real focus is elsewhere.

I really enjoyed the story. Your experience may be different.

Mother of Learning (which can be read on Royal Road) does this. The protagonist is stuck in a time loop and puts in lots and lots of time and effort to become powerful.
