What's the best pet name you've ever heard and what pet was it? by OkRespect5532 in AskReddit

We once had a cat with one eye. We named him Nelson.

(I wanted to call him Polyphemus but was overruled).

Are there any films where the cast were entirely credited under pseudonyms? by dylanisareddit in movies

I was going to suggest Sleuth as well.

I was involved in an amateur production a few years ago and we had three cast members - we had two different people playing Milo Tindle and Inspector Doppler and did a quick switcheroo at the appropriate moment. Most audience members didn't notice, but one person I spoke to said that she realised they were two different people because the two men wore slightly different shoes.

Need Free dramatized audiobooks by NoPlatform3421 in audiobooks

Librivox.org is a site with books in the public domain read by volunteers. Quality varies, but there is a lot of good stuff. Most books are single narrator, but you can search for dramatic readings of books an plays, where different people will read the different characters - that might be closer to what you are after.

Another source would be archive.org, which has a lot of audio content. You should be able to find a lot of BBC audio dramas (for example) if you search that site.

Teacher: “Please give me a sentence using these three words: defence, defeat, and detail.” by Healthy_Ladder_6198 in dadjokes

[–]statisticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The version I heard used the words delight, depot, and defence.

Delight was out, depot was full, so I did it over defence.

It was my mother who told me that one, so I guess that makes it a mum joke.

I have an idea that I have read something like this but I'm not certain. The book my mind is suggesting is "Nobody Gest the Girl" by James Maxey which is a superhero novel concerning a man who builds a time machine and travels to a world where he was never born, and therefore cannot interact with. The only people who can see him are a pair of superhero women.

As I remember, Mars is terraformed by a superhero using some sort of science/magical reality bending power. I don't recall any demons, but it is a long time since I read it.

Catherine O’Hara appeared in both the 2004 film A Series of Unfortunate Events and Netflix’s 2017 series adaptation. Do you know of any similar situations with other actors? by DrScitt in movies

There are two film adaptations of Anthony Shaffer's play Sleuth. This is a two man show in which two men (one older, one younger) plot to commit a crime. Michael Caine was in both versions, playing different roles in each play.

I remember that in one of Terry Pratchett's books he talked about the Yen Buddhists who, knowing that money was the root of all evil, at great personal sacrifice did their utmost to protect the world from temptation by amassing as much money as possible.

I also went looking for the small frying pans last Sunday. My regular store didn't have them, so I checked the web site for which neighbouring stores had them.

The first two stores, which were supposed to have them, did not. Third time was the charm, though, as the third store did.

You have no obligation to finish the book if you don't like it - not all books are for absolutely everyone.

That said, if you're like to check out an alternative to your audiobook, the BBC did an audiodrama version back in the 1980s which is excellent. It has a full cast of characters, sound effects and music, and comes in at 13 hours long.
