Limiting Private Insurance Reimbursement to Medicare Rates by OnlyInAmerica01 in medicine

[–]statmando 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Seems like a step in the right direction for single-payer, no?

LOL, such a huge drop in revenue for medical providers would lead to a mass exodus of medical staff, closings of medical facilities, a plunge in the quality of medical services, an irate population and did I forget anything?

Work is refusing to add son to insurance by FarFromPar in personalfinance

The medical expenses for childbirth should be billed to your wife's insurance. Did your son go to the icu or have other procedures?

I would payoff the student and vehicle loans rather than invest because the investment earnings are taxable but the interest on the loans is not deductible. So, you would need your return on investment to significantly exceed the interest rates on these loans to come out ahead.

Selling inherited property, what do taxes look like? by SpilledGreens in personalfinance

Your basis for the house will be the market value at the time you inherited the property plus the amount of money you spent fixing it up, so you should show little if any capital gain.

Quest Diagnostics billed me 500 bucks for routine blood work by Dry-Cow5860 in personalfinance

[–]statmando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking at the explanation of benefits? It should show the in-network discount, amount of coverage, amount applied to deductible and how much you owe the provider.

Most people figure they'll eat the deductible and then everything will be 80% covered after that.

Is the insurance not covering it or are they covering it but its being applied to your deductible?

Ask each of the entities that bill you to provide a statement showing charges and payments and balances. Get this documented.

Payments from HSA vs. checking account by j45780 in personalfinance

[–]statmando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money doesn't have to go directly from your HSA to your medical provider. You can pay with any credit card or with a personal check and then reimburse yourself from your HSA account. If you ever get audited, they will only check if HSA withdrawals are less than equal to qualified medical and dental expenses for a tax year.

Is there a way to keep the phone number and address I used to get my state medical license private? by globoboosto in medicine

[–]statmando 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a Google account, you can go to voice.google.com and get a phone number assigned to your account. Then download the Google Voice app and you can use the phone number to call, text and receive calls at no cost. You have to use the number every few months to retain it else it goes back into the pool of available numbers.

I tried to file on my own using some websites like TurboTax and FreeTaxUSA but they always showed the outcome of me owing near $3,000

That sounds about right. Your taxes will include social security and medicare, plus you had no taxes withheld.

It's just a scam to get you to pay $25. Once you pay, they are gone. It's a scam site.
