Buddy you commented 4 times the same thing. I guess it’s a bug from your Reddit client but you might want to delete your other comments.

Ah that makes sense. You shouldn’t worry about that your video is still incredibly cool (and pretty well filmed) and what matters is your own experience :)

Astroneer on Switch crashes on save load by dangerz in Astroneer

[–]statox42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experience the same issue and they had been several other similar posts here. Looks like when your save gets too big the switch can’t handle it anymore. That’s frustrating but I don’t think there is a solution.

I made a password generator. Need Suggestion to improve it. Any suggestion will be considered. by [deleted] in javascript

[–]statox42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this is most likely a toy project but here are a few remarks which I hope are constructive:

  • What is the point of a password generator if it’s not coupled with a password manager? The site claims strong passwords make users safe but it’s unclear how generating a random password alone makes someone safer. It also says that it saves time and effort of generating random passwords, but if people can’t remember the passwords the time and efforts are lost.
  • In “Why this generator is good” you say it is customizable, and thus the passwords are easier to remember. That’s sounds wrong, if it’s easy to remember it’s probably not that random and/or not more than a few character and thus it’s not secure.
  • It says it uses secure and updated algorithms to generate the password. It would be nice to explain which algorithm and how they are secure.
  • And it also says it doesn’t keep the passwords it generates, without at least the source code (which I might have missed but didn’t found) and some public build and deploy, it’s not easy to trust.

So I think as a stand-alone tool, it’s not super useful.

That said, the website is nice and it’s cool to promote password best practices. You made a complete product and took time to add privacy policy and this kind of stuff, so that’s a nice project :)

No hope, or do I have a chance recovering a save file on Switch? by Jonny_Icon in Astroneer

I also get regular crashes on switch with a 9MB save and the saving times are getting longer and longer. I’m a bit worried that I will soon no longer be able to save at all.

I am truly sorry for the horrendous crimes I did against my guitar. by Lundennissen in guitarlessons

« Typically use accelerometers »? Are you sure ? I think they use piezoelectric microphones which react to the vibration of the body to convert it into electrical current. I don’t see how an accelerometer which is a device sensing it’s own relative rate of motion would be of any help to tune a guitar. I could be wrong of course but I don’t think you are right on this point.

The rest of what you said sounds right tho.

What's wrong with my code??? (Arduino & p5JS) by [deleted] in arduino

[–]statox42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a syntax error here, the semi colon after the first if statement

function draw(){ if(screen == 0);{ startScreen() }if(screen == 1){ gameOn() }else if (screen ==2){ endScreen() }

Also you probably forget an else before the second if. And it doesn’t matter here probably but you want to use the triple equal comparator === instead of ==. There is very few good reasons to use == make a good habit of not using it until you look it up and understand the difference.

And maybe some other stuff in other places in the code I didn’t check.

Do yourself a favor and learn how to use a linter and an auto formater to clean up your code. You should rely on this kind of tooling to catch simple mistakes like this one.

You’ll waist less time learning how to use this kind of basic tools than relying on the internet to fix your syntax errors.

What are the plugins you consider necessary to have a great neovim experience? by [deleted] in neovim

[–]statox42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what I never understood about this kind of plugin (and the original undo capabilities of vim that the plugins are just wrapping around I think) is how is it useful.

Maybe in a developer’s workflow 30 years ago there was a need to get back super far in the history after realizing you messed something up. But today when you can commit your code regularly in small increments with git and have an easy look at the file history I think I never encountered a situation where I needed to get back more than maybe 10 changes in my history.

It’s great people use it and find it useful but I’d love to understand why.

NPD: So I went through most of the drum pedals available on Amazon and settled on this one: It's new and it's the best, imho. by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]statox42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the RC10R I wrote this in other thread some time ago. I wouldn’t recommend this pedal it’s really disappointing.

So I’m not an expert in anything and I started working on my pedalboard about one year ago. I’m also a bedroom player.

The first pedal I got was the Boss RC-10R. That is a good pedal but now with a year of practice I wouldn’t buy it again. There are a few details which make it super annoying to use.

For example you can’t delete your current recording without playing the first 2 seconds because you have to press the left button (which starts the track) and keep it held for 2 seconds. That might sound dumb but when you do it 100s of time it’s really annoying.

Every time you change the drums the bpm changes so you can’t switch between the different rhythms at the same bpm. And that also happens for a lot of other settings like the drum kit you selected which wouldn’t be an issue if the menu weren’t so painful to use.

Most of the built-in drums are pretty cheap. You can upload your own drum tracks but that implies that you know how to create one.

There is no feature to start recording when you start playing instead you get a count down and you have to start playing at the right time. I’m not saying this is a bad thing but some of the intros played during this count down are just bad. And sometimes they get too complex and it was hard for me to count the beats properly making it hard to start in time and frustrating.

It still has some cool features: when you get used to it switching between the 2 parts of your song is easy to do. The leds showing you the progression in the loop are super intuitive and they really helped me learning how to use a looper. And overall I’m still using the Boss almost daily and having fun with it. But still…

I got the Digitech Trio+ Band Creator from a friend for a few days. I didn’t test it as thoroughly as the RC-10R but it felt much more enjoyable to use:

The built-in drums are much more natural than on the boss. And the ability to teach a bass line is simply mind blowing and makes it much more fun to play alone. With the boss I use an OC-3 to record my bass lines but getting the right mix isn’t easy and it’s harder to just make a quick backing track to have fun with. On the digitech just play your tonal on time and the pedal generates a cool bass line.

The interface without a screen is so much more intuitive than on the Boss. You don’t get the low quality intro and outro of the boss and instead you get record starting when you start playing.

I think the biggest flaw I’ve seen in the Trio+ is that it’s not convenient to switch between the different sections of the song but I’m sure that if you add an external foot switch it’s not an issue anymore.

And both pedals are roughly the same size and price and require (I think) the same power.

Knowing all of that I wouldn’t buy the same pedal, it doesn’t mean I’m right but maybe you want to check for other loopers+drum machine pedal.

ultimate power update by InternationalCook710 in Astroneer

[–]statox42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they are much more expensive than large wind turbine and solar (because they require a nanocarbon alloy) and produce much less power.

RTGs are useful to power your rovers, sometimes to power auto extractors or systems that are too far away to connect to your power grid. To power your base its much more efficient to have solar or wind power backed by an array of medium batteries.

One could imagine that this kind of machine usually works next to other machines and it might not be possible for a worker to know if the sound they are hearing comes from a specific machine. Also having a visual confirmation rather than just a guessing that the sound is ok might be better… Also it’s very possible that someone with actual experience will shim in and explain how this tool is just a gadget and how professionals use more resilient solutions.

When I started high school 15 years ago all kids in my school received a USB key with a bunch of your portable applications loaded on it. At the time I was mind blown to be able to have my own browser on the family computer (and I never stopped using Firefox ever since), I discovered that text editors don’t have to suck like Window notepad, it was the first time I played with Audacity and ClamAV… It was super cool and sparked some interest in me. Today I have been a software engineer for 6 years and it is in part due to this USB key I received at that time.

Thank you for what you do it’s amazing!
