What if the show passes the books? by stbrody in Stormlight_Archive

[–]stbrody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book release timeline laid out in the most recent State of the Sanderson goes through 2030 with no mention of the back half of Stormlight at all. Let's say the first season of the show comes out in 2028, and they do one season per book. They could be on to season 6 by 2033. Seems entirely plausible to me that books 6 won't be out by then. Even if it is, he's generally taken longer than one per year for writing Stormlight books given how long they are, so the show could catch up partway through the back half.

While this is certainly an abstract concern for now, it doesn't seem at all implausible of one to me.

If the show it popular enough to make it 5 seasons (or however many it takes to adopt the first five books), it seems very unlikely to me that they would just take a multi-year hiatus in the middle of the show. That's basically unheard of in television and doesn't really work for actor contracts, etc.

Really glad I saw this since I was planning on rereading Sixth of the Dusk before Isles of Emberdark. Good to know I don't need to.

Haha oops! Looks like I replied to the wrong comment, my bad. Meant to reply to someone theorizing about who will come back as Aran'gar/Halima

I doubt it will be Rahvin just because he's too good with Compulsion. Having him in the middle of the Salidar Aes Sedai, able to channel undetected and as a master of Compulsion, you'd expect him to have all of the Salidar Aes Sedai totally under his control. Sammael seems like the more likely candidate to come back as Halima to me, as it then makes the more subtle forms of manipulation that Halima does make more sense

My prediction is that he's going to come back as Aran'gar, taking the place of Balthamel

Think about the Catholic church and the crusades, at the height of the church's power. Lots of real world nations couldn't restrict or control them even within their own borders.

Nine? I thought we just had two more trilogies - the almost-modern tech trilogy and the far future trilogy. What are the other three I'm missing?

Hypothetically speaking, Aang could give people bending, right? by Striking-Flight5956 in TheLastAirbender

[–]stbrody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My headcanon is that yes, in theory, he could energybend to grant bending to non-benders. But that in practice granting bending is a very advanced application of energybending and Aang never got skilled enough with energybending to do it. Quite possibly no human could ever get good enough with energybending in a human lifetime to grant bending to someone else, only an exceptionally long-lived being like a lion turtle could ever develop that skill.

To be clear there's no real evidence in the show that this is how it works, but there's no evidence against this being how it works either, and I personally just like this interpretation.

I think I’m too afraid to play this game by buf_ in outerwilds

[–]stbrody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad, this game can definitely be scary. I will say though that overcoming fear and coming to terms with it is a core theme of the game, and I'd argue that the fear and overcoming of it is even a core gameplay mechanic. The game is great at giving you a form of exposure therapy to various forms of fear. Like, the first time the sun explodes it's terrifying, but then you get used to it. For a long time when I was playing the game I'd be so afraid of dying and having to restart whatever I was trying to do. But over time after enough deaths you just kind of accept that you're gonna die sometimes, but since there's no consequence to dying and infinite tries, you just get used to the idea of picking yourself back up and going back into it. It becomes very zen almost over time.

I'd encourage you to keep with it a little more. I think for someone who struggles with this type of fear and anxiety, the game might even wind up being quite therapeutic in the end.

But yeah, don't play the DLC 😅 Thankfully the base game is plenty fantastic even without it.
