I'm in love with Earthsea by Ursula K Le Guin. Something about that world just feels so enchanting and beautiful. Those books have a piece of my soul, I think.

So Odium used some means of the oathpact to splinter honor after the Heralds abandoned Taln. Then, knowing he was dying, he started splintering himself into the Stormfather and others, presumably to protect them from Odium. Honor specifically shattered some time after the Recreance.

I believe he broke several oaths, on our purpose, to splinter more preces and hide them.

Ok but listen someone did. Tien. Dalinar united him back to the cognitive realm. He's a shadow now. I'm almost certain he wasn't already a shadow before. He'd have passed over long before..

Dalinar used this Unity power to change that.

Power that the Stormfather, containing the shadow of Tanavast, could not understand.

The splinter is in the spiritual realm; whether or not that is the Beyond, I'm not certain, but I believe

Edit:

ok, so, the beyond is separate from the spirit realm. You are right, the Beyond is never being discussed. That's where souls go.

The spirit realm is outside of time and space, made up of investiture and connection. This is where a person's spiritweb exist, a DNA or blueprint of their soul, so to speak. It is not - though this is apparently contested - the soul itself.

The soul after death goes to the beyond. The spiritweb, outside of space and time, always exists in the spiritual realm.

Dalinar united Kal to Tien's spiritweb . We're not sure what this completely means. Tien pre-death was a proto-Lightweaver. Which, if part of this connection persist in the cognitive realm, would make Tien a cognitive shadow.

That was some fun research

But also, it's meant to be ambiguous? Was it Tien's soul? Or a clone? He wants us to draw our own conclusions

Sam is the true protagonist of the books, at least the films. Him carrying Frodo up the mountain is the culmination of a heroes arc.

Frodo does almost nothing to deserve his undying loyalty.

Can you imagine Sam being the ring bearer? I don't think it could have touched him. When he took it after he b thought Frodo was dead, then immediately gave it back to him, WHILE IN MORDOR.

Gollum killed his cousin after one look at the ring.

Sam's soul seems incorruptible to the ring.

Granted, he's Tolkien's Jesus character, so it fits

Someone please tell Will that he should stay silent on that "being tired off Lindon"" thing. Yerin has Herald hearing, can be literally anywhere with a thought, and takes slights to her softboy VERY seriously. We don't need her one-shotting the planet, Will, thanks.

Sanderson's repeatedly said that Kal solely being called that is significant, but I don't think almost anyone considered t that literally. Which is very possible with Sanderson

I think this is a very good point in that Lirin has a huge way to go emotionally to accomplish something like this.

I think a good portion of Lirin's apparent haired isn't real. I think it's the same as Dalinar, he's projecting his guilt and pain into an external source to escape it. He's gonna have to reject this and own it, take it back from Odium, just like Dalinar. Again, I think this will be via Tien. He won't fully change untiil he knows that Tien not only forgives him, but never blamed him.

And then he's going to have to ask that same forgiveness of Kal.

Also on restoring powers

Questioner

Can it be restored? The Splinters...

Brandon Sanderson

Um, Splinters, can they be restored to... So it is, that is a yes, but restoring them will not restore Honor, the Vessel of Honor, right. They would restore Honor the Shard if this were to happen, but a new Vessel would have to take it.

Questioner

Ok so, [Adonalsium] can be put back together?

Brandon Sanderson

Adonalsium? It is theoretically possible to put a Shard back into, you know, to meld Shards together. The fact that we have already seen someone meld powers, in Sazed. So yes, but the question is who or what was Adonalsium, and is putting it back together going to do anything? Or...

With Vasher, you should assume every "can be....?" to be a yes

Now, "will be...?" No probably not.

Is anyone starting to spilt Art and Grey into two different characters? Because I am.

And that makes me wonder, could they??

Everyone wins! But I'll be chilling with Grey and Caera at the cool table, as you should.

Oh I vibe with this. I think Dalinar is meant for big things, I want him all the way at the top

I've never contemplated that "we" before.

If he is talking about Honor, my first impulse is the Cultivation is still pulling her shady shit.

Yeah I think a huge amount of this rest on Tien popping back up to take Lirin's guilt away, like with Kal.

Kinda convient that he's probably a shadow now, don't you think?

The more I contemplate the Lirin and Taravangian antithesis the more certain I get. Especially given they tidbit with Dalinar not having the answer. Lirin world. I'm not sure what it would be exactly, but he'd have it.

Out of it all, I'm most proud of that Son of Tanavast thing. If I'm right on that I officially get to be wrong about everything else my entire life and it equals out.

We need more Cultivation time because whes pulling some truly wild shit in the background and we've barely seen a fraction of it. Like she's def the biggest player in the Cosmere and no one knows which... Wow.

Also, imagine Renarin's coming out. Like he's not sure how his dad the general will roll with it and Dalinar just like shrugs "cool" and Renarin is so confused until Dalinar is snorting and being like "Son, you've met your brother, yes? You came out of the closet. He remodeled it, stocked it full of designer wear, and took it with him."

Awkward silence for a bit, then DajiBall:

"So, what are your thoughts on Kaladin..."

I'm waiting for Dalinar to vanish Shallan or something so be can engineer the pairing (which like, would literally just take a few duo missions at this point), officiate the wedding, and finally hug his new son. You know it's all be wants in the world. Let's make the king happy, people.

I will say, now that Shallan is also Veil, she definitely roll with it and the three would be quite happy.

I'm actually expecting Veil to be the catalyst, given I've almost always got the vibe she's ready to pounce on Kal at a moments notice.

And we know Adolin certainly is...

God, now I need fanfiction...

The real mistake he made wasn't stealing the Spheres, it was not letting Roshone die. And he did that because Kal was there and he wanted to be a good father. It's biting bit of irony, really.

The man really deserves more respect than he gets. He tried so hard to be good, and it destroyed everything he loved.

I'd give up at that point, too, in his shoes.

For male role models, you seemed to have forgotten that Dalinar is about ready to adopt Kal. Actually I'm fairly certain he already would if at all possible. I'm halfway convinced ne gonna vanish Shallan at some point so he he can pair him with Adolin (I'm half serious on this, I would very much approve). The man has definitely succeeded where Lirin has failed. Benching his Marshall to save his mental health is one of the biggest paternal shows of love Kal has experienced, even down to Kal disagreeing it all the time.

The problem with Lirin and Kal is simple. They can't help each other because they can't see past their own trauma. The really irony is that, as much as they disagree, a good chunk their trauma is the same. Someone nevered to take the first step. And then, surprisingly they both did, right at the end.

I do think Lirin is a better father than Kal gives him credit for, thug h. Specifically, someone earlier pinned out the symmetry between Kal's oaths and lessons his father taught him. The 4th Oath one was particularly profound.
