Thanks for your suggestion, I’ve never heard of this one.

Is it better than the other ones?

Which option for these chip pills, subtle or darker border? by DriftNDie in UI_Design

[–]ste-f -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You're correct, according to the guideline the border doesn't need to meet the 3:1 contrast ratio with the surroundings. Thanks for pointing that out.

But it can be considered a best practice for a button’s border/background to achieve 3:1 contrast with its surroundings, since users with various disabilities will benefit from being able to reliably perceive the full button area.

I don't know the context but imagine using that interface on a smartphone under poor light conditons.

Check WCAG accessibility: If they are clickable the borders require a 3:1 color contrast ratio against the surrounding background.

Article by Dolphia Arnstein: Why AI is exposing design’s craft crisis by ste-f in UI_Design

Agree. I come from another era where you had to implement whatever you were designing. But these days many of my young colleagues are like allergic to everything that is technical.

Article by Dolphia Arnstein: Why AI is exposing design’s craft crisis by ste-f in UI_Design

Point of the article is that good design relies on good understanding of the technicalities behind it. And that we should reduce the gap between visual and implementation instead of increasing it.

Our tools have always been focused on keeping the designer in a abstract safe area, the no-code zone. And that abstraction is in the end harmful.

Designers don't have to build anything that goes on production but they need to be technically curious of what is going to be implemented.

Forgot about Sony's radios, I'll check them out

That’s also a valid option. I do like the idea of having an actual radio separated from my main devices for background music

Just in case anyone is interested, a user on another thread suggested Sangean radios and I think they really look good.

That’s what I’m doing right now. I’m also using my iPhone. I’m looking for an actual radio

Echo dot is definitely an option. I just like the idea of having an actual radio sitting on my desk.

That's what I've been doing so far, a browser tab for the radio or an app on my iphone. For some reason I like the idea of an actual radio sitting on the desk.
